Since leaving the CIA under questionable circumstances, Amanda Caldwell has been living a quiet, uneventful life in a sleepy mountain town. But when Rick Cooper, her former partner—and former lover—makes an unexpected reappearance, she senses things are about to get a lot more interesting.…Rick's mission is to protect Amanda and her identity from an assassin who's picked up her trail. It isn't long before working together stirs up all the passion and energy they'd once shared on the job. And in Rick's bed. Still, there's more to Rick's assignment than he can share with his "partner." Revealing the truth wouldn't be smart. But keeping his secret could be deadly.
I was raised in Alabama, so I know we Southerners don't hide our crazy people—we showcase them. Eccentric people make for the best stories, and we Southerners do love our stories. The need to tell stories has been a driving force in my life from childhood.
As a girl, my favorite books were mysteries and romances. When I realized there were books that featured both romance and mystery, I knew I'd found my calling. Now I get to play both matchmaker and murderer and get paid for it. Could there be a better job anywhere?

Really enjoyed this story. I liked that they both had remained celibate while apart. I want to read about the rest of the family too.
This was about a CIA operative who fell in love with a private sector guy and they weren't supposed to be together. They broke up because they didn't communicate and she was kidnapped and tortured. It's there years later and they meet again and there is a bit on her. He has to help her stay safe and his family joins them to ferret out the bad guys. Really enjoyed it.
Excellent start to a new Cooper series, this time with the cousins (six of them -- yay!!). I really liked Rick. He was determined to protect Amanda, whether she wanted him to or not. Rick regretted the way they parted three years earlier, and wanted another chance - but he had to keep her alive. Amanda had been keeping a low profile, and couldn't understand why someone was suddenly trying to kill her. It also made her reluctant to trust anyone - even Rick. But she couldn't deny that she was still attracted to him, and that she still wished they could have a future together. As they tried their best to find out who was behind the attacks and why, a bigger picture came into focus, and they realized that there was more to the attacks than just silencing Amanda. I enjoyed the chance to meet Rick's siblings, and seeing the Gossamer Ridge Coopers again too. I can't wait for the rest of the series!
Very quick and easy read, doesn't take up too much time, nor does it provide a ton of character development.
I like that Amanda is tough and knows how to protect herself, especially after what happened 3 years ago. Rick is definitely someone you want on your team but overall a good guy.
The book is packed with heart pounding action right from the start to the end.
It got quite overwhelming when all the Coopers family was being brought in and randomly introduced, a little too much of a crowd given how short the story is. Plus the big bad guys are never really named and pin pointed, so left with more questions than answers. Also what happened to Damon? How does Quinn know so much? Will they ever take Reid down?
Started out okay but just got more and more stupid as the book progressed, zero romance, and just the kind of b grade action movie stunts that I hate, this is for fans of bruce willis movies not for romance readers. I usually enjoy this author but this was pulp fiction crap and I know she can write better than this.
This is a Harlequin Intrigue book. I enjoyed it - a romance with intrigue! Former CIA agent and former mercenary reconnect under odd circumstances. Then they are on the run from a hitman. While on the run for their lives they rekindle their former romance.
Again this is a great series that will have you wanting more from this series. Paula Graves Cooper Security is a great read. I finished Secret Identity book #1 in this series and I want more.
Secret Identity is the exciting first book in Paula Graves six book COOPER SECURITY series from Harlequin Intrigue. It is a fast paced reunion romance between Amanda Caldwell a covert CIA operative who has been cut loose from the agency, and her former lover Rick Cooper, a security contractor who has come home to work for his families‘ security firm. Amanda is a tough, secretive lady on the run from her past and the last thing she expected was to have Rick Cooper back in her life.
Secret Identity is an explosive story with a plot that contains espionage, betrayal and a simmering attraction between Amanda and Rick. Both of the main characters are people who are damaged but not beyond repair. I also liked revisiting some of the characters from Paula Graves THE FORBIDDEN series as well as from COOPER JUSTICE series. I am looking forward to the rest of the books, which are all scheduled for release in 2012.
In Paula Graves's Secret Identity, welcome to the dark world of danger and intrigue. Amanda Caldwell is a former agent who's been keeping secrets and living on the run. When someone tracks her down, she's on the run for her life. We'll see her toss and turn with mixed emotions, when she meets her former flame, Rick Cooper. Amanda's world's turn upside-down, when someone's gunning out for her. And she didn't know why. Three years ago, she couldn't escape her past. And neither could Rick. We'll see how Rick concerns for her and wants to keep her safe. When they come together, the sparks continue to fly. Together, they take on their adversaries in a blaze of glory, when her secrets are exposed wide open. No one wants the truth to come out in the end. What a burning rush!
This is not the first time I have read a book by this author and I enjoy her writing. I would give this story a 3.5 star rating if I could. It wasn't the best book that I read but it wasn't bad at all either. The story was good and I liked how the Cooper family united together. The names of the bad guys got a little confusing at times but all in all it was an ok book. I would read another book by this author.
This was the first time I have read Paula Graves. She's great. She kept me on the edge of my seat. Great Book. I bought the whole series and I'm starting the 2nd one now.
