Librarian Note: There is more than one author in the GoodReads database with this name. See this thread for more information.

Although I have been a published author since the mid 1980s, I have been writing women's Christian fiction almost exclusively since 1999.

There is a longer, more detailed bio on my website so there's no need for me to repeat all that here. Right now, I write for all three Love Inspired lines, Romance, Suspense and Historical. I'm delighted to have been included that broadly and besides, it keeps me so busy that I stay out of trouble. Well, mostly.

You'll find me on the LI Historical blog as well as other LI features. If I try to do much more I won't have time to write my books!

I won this copy of the book in the good reads free giveaway. I can't wait to get my copy. It sounds like a very interesting book. Thanks for the copy! I received my copy today. Soon as I am done reading the book I am almost done with I am going to start this book. Thanks again Valerie. I loved that you personally autographed it to me!

This book was very good. I enjoyed reading it. Now I need to go back and read the first book in the series.

As a participant in this and other continuity series I have to agree that sometimes the overall premise can be a bit outlandish - but remember, it has to carry readers through a group of books, each of which tells its own story as well as furthers the basic plot. Believe me, that can be a real challenge!

Blessings,
Val

I love Keira's personality and how she handles the tricky situation with Nick. That said, I'm not wild about how the cops (in general) respond to the Internal Affairs investigation. It seems like they'd want someone ensuring everyone's on the up and up. While they get over Nick's "deceit," I'd have expected more support earlier.

Very entertaining Christian police, romance

This is a very entertaining book about a family of police officers with suspense, action, and romance. I really love the way it's written and the touches of Christianity sprinkled into the story. It's a nice length and has a happy ending.

I found my next series. I like a good romance sprinkled among the crime fighting. The Fitzgerald family reminds me of the tv series Blue Bloods. Nothing like being suspected of murder to add some spice to a story

The Rookie’s Assignment by Valerie Hansen
Fitzgerald Bay Book 2
Keira Fitzgerald is the youngest of the Fitzgerald clan. And a rookie on the police force. She wants to be the best she can but it’s tough when your dad and brothers on the force still see you as a little girl. When a newcomer joins in to help solve Olivia Henry’s murder case Keira gets to partner with him, someone who isn’t family and teaches her to be better at her job. Now if she could just remember to focus on her job instead of her handsome partner.

Detective Nick Delfino is good at his job. He knows that when people find out why he is really there that they immediately dislike him but that’s okay. He’s a loner and don’t need anyone. Well he didn’t think he did until he finds himself struggling with wanting to tell his beautiful new partner who he really is, even though she’ll hate him for it afterward.

This second book takes us on another adventure as trouble follows Nick to Fiztgerald Bay. They don’t seem to get any closer to solving the murder or clearing Charles Fitzgerald of the crime but it seems they have a new crime to solve. We get a better glimpse into some of the other characters lives as well and their stories are going to be told in the next books. The third book in this Love Inspired series is The Detective’s Daughter by Rachelle McCalla. You’ll want to read these in order to get all the ground work down and maybe even become a sleuth yourself and figure out why Olivia was murdered and by who.

Second in the Fitzgerald series is Keira Fitzgerald....the youngest family member and the one most protected by four big brothers.

Since Keira grew up a tomboy, always trying to keep up with her brothers, it is no surprise to any of them when she attends police academy and graduates a rookie cop. What does surprise them is her natural abilities - physical and mental - for the job.

The Hennessys, determined to destroy the Fitzgerald family, has requested an internal investigation in the hopes of unearthing corruption in the Fitzgerald Bay force. Enter Nick Delfino, internal affairs investigator, who comes to Fitzgerald Bay under the guise of assistance in the Henry murder case.

The Fitzgeralds are suspicious of the newcomer, who does not go out of his way to be friendly with the Fitzgerald males. He is assigned to partner with Keira....and, of course, one knows what will happen in a romance. Keira tries to defend her new love from her brothers' dislike and also from a cop gone bad who has a personal vendetta against Nick. A climatic scene at the top of a lighthouse (the same spot where Olivia Henry was killed) results in Nick being fired from Internal Affairs. Conveniently, there is a spot open on Fitzgerald Bay's force and Nick is the second soon-to-be inlaw to join the clan.

Not deep literature, but a fun read for summer!

The writing is good and it kept my interest, mostly because I like the 'suspense' part of this book and I like the series. I question the romance. The author takes a guy with a ride-in-on-a-white-horse 'complex,' and a tomboy who grew up fighting off an over-protective father and several brothers, still trying to prove herself in a man's profession. [My daughter is a totally athletic young woman who loves to go all frou-frou for outings ... but she was never a "tomboy" fighting to prove herself. So, I'm not saying the two ideas can't exist.] The need for both of these people to be 'in charge' was never resolved in the relationship. The only attraction between the two was physical. The 'trust' that developed was that of needing a 'savior' in times of life-altering distress. So what happens when life goes back to normal?

I don't mind that the romance is secondary. I prefer it that way. But it needs to make sense. This couple is bound to end up fighting as soon as the dust settles. It is a recipe for disaster.

Second book in Fitzgerald Bay series. Hansen makes the second installment a fun and action filled read. This was a fast read and very enjoyable.

The youngest Fitzgerald sibling and rookie cop, Keira, has been assigned a new temporary partner, Nick Delfino. The family is unaware that he is on a mission to determine if the Fitzgerald family is trying to corrupt the investigation in Olivia Henry's murder. Several people are having issues with the investigation.

The Fitzgeralds', the founding family of the town, are all involved in law enforcement, fire fighting, or medicine. There are shouts of nepotism because the only suspect of interest is Keira's brother Charles. Delfino has been sent to investigate whether or not the police department is corrupt and hiding important evidence in the murder.

Sometimes there is much more to know about a person than what you see at first. Young policewoman, Keira Fitzgerald, is still a feminine, lovely and caring young woman, but she also grew up in a police family. She followed her brothers, father and grandfather around most of her life. Now she is thrown into the middle of an investigation with Nick,a visiting Internal Affairs Cop. She proves herself to him when she puts her own life on the line to protect him. It starts out all business, but both see something special in the other. While continuing to investigate, Nick comes to admire the whole Fitzgerald family but he does quite a juggling match as he also is being followed by a cop gone bad from his previous assignment.

Fitzgerald Bay
Book 2

In the second book of this six-book series, Keira, the youngest of the Fitzgerald kids, is partnered to work with Nick. Nobody knows it, but he's there to find corruption in the family-run police department.

Not too many new characters are introduced. The romance had a bit of trouble getting started. The action was...well, anyway it was an interesting read. I liked book 2 a lot better - there was just something missing from this book. I am not a feminist thinker, but I didn't think Keira was treated very well by her father, brothers, or even Nick. She was respected as a police officer, but they protected her and she let them...

We don't really get any new details on the overall story, but I'm sure we will before it's all over.

This was pretty good, but absolutely had more churchy themes in it (that weren't there at all in the last book). This is very much a formulaic book where there's a believer and non-believer and something happens to make the non-believer believe, the end. I was hoping for another hint about the murderer's identity, but no dice. I guess with this many books in a series, it's hard to include everything. It just seems crazy that this time period would be when all the crackpots show up to cause problems.

This is a series of six books based on the first one (The Lawman's Legacy) where a murder was committed. All the others books tie in the family (Fitzgerald Bay) of police officers and the town (Fitzgerald Bay). It's been really good so far. Love this one too, characters are interesting, it's fast paced and loads of action. I have the others in the series, so will be reading each of them!! The next one is The Detective's Secret Daughter, which I am reading now. Great so far!

This book was exellcent I like it very much. It's about the youngest daughter Keira Fitzgerald who is a rookie police officer and is getting a season Detective from Boston as her new partner Nick Delfino. They are also working on trying to involved the Olivia Henry murder. But what they don't know is Nick has been brought in by the State Police to see if the Police Department is corrupted and dirty in protecting the prime suspect.

I've won this book in a giveaway. Thank you, Valarie, for signing it for me.
This book was fast paced, with more suspense than romance. The inspirational element made it a "gentle" read. Those who read inspirational novels on a regular basis will certainly enjoy this one. Those who usually read "straight" romantic suspense might not be fully satisfied.

This line of suspense/romance books from Steeple Hill are very simple, Christian and clean, and can be read in 3-4 hours. This is the second of a six part series (Fitzgerald Bay). The main mystery was solved but the second underlying mystery will apparently run through all six books. Ok for a quick, simple read but not a lot different from other books in this genre.

I love Keira's personality (especially the fact that she is the only female Fitzgerald in law enforcement), as well as how she handles the tricky situation with Nick. That said, I'm not wild about how the cops (in general) respond to the Internal Affairs investigation. It seems like they'd want someone ensuring everyone's on the up and up rather than resenting the investigation itself.

I am torn by these books. This is #2 is a series of five or six, with a rather preposterous premise (or two), but, at the same time, both of the first two books have been a lot of fun to read.
