Chipmunk and Bear have a lot in common, despite their difference in size. And Chipmunk is determined to keep up with his big friend. Warmth and humor fill the snowy day adventures of two friends who, despite their physical differences, share work and play and true companionship.
Valeri Gorbachev is the author and illustrator of a number of children's books, both in the United States and Europe, including Nicky And The Big Bad Wolves and Where is the Apple Pie? Mr. Gorbachev immigrated to the United States from the Ukraine in 1991 and now lives with his family in Brooklyn, New York.
One snowy day, Bear and Chipmunk go on a series of fun adventures. They get along so well and have so much in common that, throughout the day, no matter what Bear says, Chipmunk chimes, "Me too!" At the end they go home to a cozy house for a nice evening together.
This is a quick, easy read. Even non-readers can catch on to Chipmunk's "Me too!" chorus and join in. The illustrations have an old-fashioned feel to them and capture the vibe of a snowy day well, and the cozy scene of the warmly lit house in the end leaves the book on a positive note that makes it perfect for a bedtime read.
Excellent for little ones who are just starting to read. It flows in a way the promotes independence on reading as they can "predict" the words they don't know yet. My 5 year old PK child read it al by herself today.
I understand that the repetition of "Me too!" is to help beginning readers, but I would have preferred if Bear and Chipmunk took turns saying it, instead of the little character just sounding like he likes whatever his friend does.
So much love for this simple story where the illustrations convey so much more than the text. The easy to read text is terrific for beginner readers or a storytime filled with younger children.
I loved the comradery that Bear and Squirrel share. I love how this books shows that it doesn't matter how big or small you are, that size doesn't stop you from enjoying the same things.
The few words and sentences on each page, large typeface, use of repetition and sight words, and large proportion of illustrations make it clear this “I like to read” book is geared toward the very early reader.
The book concerns two characters, Bear and Chipmunk. Chipmunk responds to all of Bear’s statements with “Me too!” until the end when Chipmunk responds to Bear’s, “Sweet dreams,” with a “You too!” The break in the predictability at the very end of the book is a hallmark of a good early reader.
A young child can certainly relate to following someone and wanting to do the same thing. The cute colorful drawings illustrate the action in the book and show things most kids are familiar with such as snow, skiing, and shoveling (I would argue even kids in warmer climates have seen pictures of these tasks we Chicagoans know all too well).
This would be a great story time read. The kids could chime in with Chipmunk and say, “Me too!” or be divided into two groups with one group being Bear and the other Chipmunk.
Each two-page spread features a large cartoon illustration, done in watercolor and ink, of Bear and Chipmunk enjoying a winter activity. The repeating patterns in dialog help the youngest readers, along with simple sentences and basic vocabulary. On each page, Bear makes a statement about the activity they are doing, and Chipmunk says, “Me too!” (as can be guessed by the title), resulting in a sweet book about friendship and a day spent enjoying each other’s company in the snow. Those who are just starting to read will find the book entertaining and appropriate to their skills.
Big Bear and his small friend, Chipmunk, go out on a wintery day. Chipmunk copies Bear in all their wintry activities--skiing, building a snowman, skating--all with various degrees of success due to size. Finally they go home, happy in a day well-spent. Warm and humorous illustrations accompany the very very simple text designed for beginning readers who will, doubtless, love it. It is, however, extremely slight, if cute.
Bear and Chipmunk go to play outside. They shovel, ski and skate and no matter what Bear says Chipmunk always chimes in with "Me Too!"
This is a cute and simple story about friends playing together and having fun. The illustrations are cute and the illustrations and concepts are simple enough for even really young children to understand. This would be a great book for children to help with the story by saying "Me Too" during Chipmunk's part.
This easy-to-read book celebrates the delights of playing in the snow with a good friend. Bear and Chipmunk are thrilled to see snow falling outside their window, and after digging their way out of the house, they make a snowman and ski and skate. The book features lovely watercolor and ink illustrations that show just how excited the animals are throughout their busy day.
It is winter, and Bear loves the snow and all the things you can do in the snow. His friend Chipmunk does, too, and joins Bear in his snowy activities. Gorbachev's amusing pen and watercolor illustrations help the reader see Chipmunk's challenges trying to keep up with Bear. An entertaining I Like to Read Book for ages 3-6.
Very cute book ... everything bear likes and does, Chipmunk likes and does. The only thing missing is the end where Bear says "I'm tired of winter, I'm ready for spring" and Chipmunk says likewise ... or maybe I just think the book should say that because this year Michigan has been having a pretty intense winter and most of us are ready for spring! :-)
I'll admit, I like the I Like to Read books. The pictures are much larger than in traditional early readers and though the stories are simple, they are interesting and there's a lot to talk about in the pictures.
This is a cute easy reader. The pictures are cute, it is a contrast of the large Bear and a Small Chipmunk. On the back cover it says " "I love Snow" Said Bear. "Me Too!" Said Chipmunk! If you like to read you will like this book"
Another in the "I Like To Read" series. A good, simple story for beginning and emergent readers. Lovely illustrations. I have found that the books in this series are fun to read together with my 5 year old.
Such a cute early reader. I loved the colorful and vibrant pictures. I cannot wait to use this book in my Art Through Stories class. It is just the right length to keep my young students engaged and I love the pictures. 5 stars
Read this one after I plucked it from the shelf for the outgoing holds. Clearly another librarian (or teacher) will use this fun, simple story with gorgeous illustrations in a storytime or classroom! Glad I know it's out there because Bear and Chipmunk are great characters!
Me Too! by Valeri Gorbachev is a fun & simple read about the snow adventures of Bear & Chipmunk. The sentence(s) & illustrations helped to assist for audience involvement during preschool storytime. Great for young preschool age or those learning how to read.
Bear and Chipmunk spend a day playing in the snow. Repetitive text makes this a great beginning reader title set against watercolor and ink illustrations. PreK-2.
This is a great book for early readers. My son loved it. There are big words but the excellent pictures and word repetition help the young readers master the vocabulary.
