When Viki Lozano, mother of an eleven-month-old and wife of a Texas police officer, died from a gunshot wound the day after her sixteenth wedding anniversary, authorities wondered: could one of their own have committed such a crime? Sure. But the answer wasn't really so simple...
Bought this book from amazon uk. This book has been on my wish list for a long time and I thought it would be great but to be honest I am disappointed. First of all from the beginning the author tells us what is going to happen. Why not put that in a prologue chapter. I could not escape being spoiled and as some of you know I hate that!!!
After I'd read about 100 pages I really did not want to read anymore cause I wanted to be relaxed while reading but this story pissed me off too much. How the cops treated this case upset me greatly and going through some sad family problems I not need to be upset or angry when I manage to read.
I am going to read and finish it soon though.
Update July 9th.
Wow that was great. lol. Yes I know I am still pissed of about the spoilers but what a great story and very well written for someone who writes their first book so kudos to Mrs Fielder.
So glad I did not skip the rest. Hope she will write more books. ------------------------------------------------------------ One thing I cannot stand the mother of Bobby but what I did not understand............
Isn't it so that when a husband kills his wife and there are children, they do not go to the killer's family but to the victim's family if it can be helped? So the excuse that perhaps Farish was worried she would lose her grandson does not hold for me. Plus she had not much love for her daughter so i question her love for the then baby.
No she only loves herself. Also not sure if I consider women that have sex with a married man victims. (or with a killer as in Renee;s case. I would love to know more. *Does Bitch Farish still believe in her son in law?
Is Renee still in love with her killer of a husband. It seemed the author felt sorry for her.
* how is the son of Vicki doing?
* Is Bobby in protected custody or still just in the general population of the jail.
his is proof that this was a good book. Donna made me really interested in this case.
Liked this book about Texas schoolteacher Virginia "viki" Lozano, who was planning for her little boy's first birthday party, when she died from a gunshot wound the day after her 16th wedding anniversary with her Denton police officer husband, Bobby Lozano. Bobby claimed she must have been cleaning his gun when it accidentally went off. In bed. In the middle of the night. While she was laying down.
Authorities knew Bobby Lozano was a long term cheater, but now they had to question whether he was capable of being a murderer too.
This case has some really bizarre twists that made it unusual.
What a hot f mess! Just the blurb of this book had me fuming, but then I needed to know more.
Bobby Lozano was a police officer in Denton Texas. Due to that fact his coworkers did not follow protocol AT ALL when called to the scene of his wife’s death.
A scene that anyone could easily see did not add up. 🤬 WTF. Bobby went on living his life, thinking he got away with it for SIX YEARS, until a reporter discovered how things were done and fought for justice.
I’m so glad that this case was reopened and that justice was served. I hope that he never gets out of prison for what he did to his wife and for leaving their precious baby without a mother.
Our system is majorly flawed in the US, but this case was screwed from the very beginning because they went to the scene thinking of Bobby as a friend.
Donna Fielder has a passion for justice for murdered women. The book details a seven-year quest for justice for the dead wife of a Denton police officer who almost got away with murder.
Viki Lozano was murdered 1 month before I was born, not even a half mile from my parent’s house in Denton, TX. I finished this book in one day, I just could not put it down. Although the book was “spoiled” in prologue, it almost made it more interesting. You knew what ultimately happened, but there were times you just thought it would never get there. I grew up hearing stories from my parents, but I’m so glad that I was finally able to read this book.
I know and love this author. I found myself reading about this calculated murder in her country twang. This murder of a schoolteacher/mom by her policeman/husband rocked Denton, Texas. He's behind bars thanks in part to Donna Fielder who believed Viki Lozano deserved justice. Donna...Richard would be so proud!
I was very interested in reading this book since it is about a fellow teacher from Denton. Also, I knew a member of the victim's family in Denton and several of the witnesses in the trial. I was extremely disappointed in the writing of the book. It was very repetitive and included information that had absolutely nothing to do with the case. I wasn't thrilled with this book.
The author is the local crime reporter in Denton, TX. Whenever I visit I look forward to reading her column. My sister was one of the witnesses at the trial, how weird is that?
We read this book because it was a true story that took place in our town, Denton, TX, and we know people who know some of the characters in the book. It was [...TBD
This was so poorly written and repetitive I wanted to scream. Newspaper reporters who want to write a true crime book should study Ann Rule’s books for how-to’s. Fielder often repeated statements within pages, if not paragraphs, of each other, certainly every time the perspective of the person in the tale changed. This was taking “tell them what you’re going to tell them; tell them; then tell them what you told them” to an insane level. What works in newspaper articles (I.e., recaps of past information) doesn’t work in a book.
All that being said, the underlying story of the cop who murdered his wife was compelling. Don’t give up reading it even if you’re annoyed with the writing. The cross-examinations by the prosecutors are alone worth finishing the book.
How does a woman shoot herself in the chest while cleaning her husband's service 9mm while she's still in bed? Well that's what Officer Bobby Lozano said happened to his wife schoolteacher Virginia "Viki" Lozano on July 6, 2002 in Denton, Texas.
Read the "True Story" of "The Brutal Crime" that happened in TX on 7/6/02 & see if it was either suicide, accidental death, or a murder of a beloved schoolteacher and a mother of an 11month old baby boy....
Donna has a penchant for portraying her true crime stories honestly and accurately. Her use of descriptive adjectives for the characters makes the reader more aware of what is happening, through the author's eyes.
This book was loaned from a friend who is from the Denton, Texas area. "The true story of a Texas cop and wife-killer--and the unbelievable perversions of justice that almost set him free."
This was written perfectly. The author lived this story, she made you feel as you were there in that courtroom everyday. Best true story I’ve read…probably ever.
I like reading true crime stories, learning about the policy and procedures cops will follow to collect evidence and find the criminal. This story bothered me because the criminal was a police officer and procedure was not followed and thus allowed the unsolved murder of a cop's wife to go unsolved for years. Then a reporter got a look into the files and wrote an article show casing all the lies Bobby (the wife killing husband) told and how the police had cut their fellow officer a break while investigating by not following protocol. It pissed me off and near had me in tears thinking about Viki being murdered and her tiny baby boy being raised by the person who killed her. When the trial got going though, I knew it was over for Bobby and couldn't have been happier. The evidence was overwhelmingly against him and the with the testimony if all the witnesses, he didn't stand a chance. This was a quick read but it was enjoyable and like I said, its nice to read about cases getting solved because some people don't give up.
this one is a "close to home" story....takes place in Texas....I used to live in a house that was once owned by a police officer...who shot & killed his wife at point blank range...should be eerie to read this...(not the same story)so I'm interested to see what similarities match the one of the house that I lived in.....cant wait to really get into this one.
I highly recommend this true crime gem. I am a true crime buff but so many are boring and tedious. I even enjoyed the chapters about the trial. So good to read a true crime book that does'nt use fillers of unneccessary background information on every person involved. would love to read more from this author.
I couldn't put this book down. I have known of few of 'those' guys and Donna painted a perfect picture of his looks and his behaviors. Thanks to Donna Fielder and her gut feeling - justice was finally served. Yay - good guys win - sort of.
I've read a lot of true crime books in the last 15 years and I think this was one of the best, well-written true crime books I've read in years. It kept my attention and the story line flowed smoothly. I commend Donna for helping bring Bobby to justice and to writing such a great book.
The true story of a selfish amoral man and the havoc he caused in so many lives. It is hard to imagine someone so vile but it is a true story. I couldn't put it down the author has an excellent writing style.
