Devastated by a seemingly unforeseeable attack, America is shattered by a military that is the least likely of suspects. In the aftermath, American civilians are left to run, hide, die or fight, pushing through all weakness in their effort to stay alive. Fighting against all odds, seventeen year old Fallon and twelve year old Emery struggle through a nightmare they can't wake from in order to save their younger siblings. Collecting others along the way, and enduring obstacles unfathomable in their innocence, the kids trek cross country to reach The Safe Zone, a fortified area rumored to be set up in the south. Fallon and his friends aren't even sure there is a Safe Zone though. They could be running for nothing. Never remaining in one place for too long in their attempt to avoid bombings and capture, the kids fight against attack, the elements, sickness and their overwhelming sense of desperation, pushing each other to the limit as they struggle to survive this land of devastation.
I was born and raised in Wichita Kansas. I love writing, reading, my beautiful baby girl and my hubby. I like to listen to Rock and Roll old or new and read just about anything YA although I'm still working on getting into the paranormal.
When I am writing I just can't wait to see whats going to happen next! If you do not like my characters do not blame me, blame them! They have a mind of their own! Known for the roller coaster ride I take readers on! Happy Reading!
America is in shambles, attacked by an unlikely foe. Streets are barren, buildings crumbled, water fleeting, and food scarce. A handful of people struggle to survive, moving towards where there is rumor to be a safe zone. Driven by terror, desperation, and instinct, these few souls must overcome trying odds in order to survive in a world lacking human compassion.
My Review:
The good:
Let’s start off by saying that I didn’t want to put it down. I NEEDED to know what would happen to Fallen, Emery, and even Guy. Each section was intense; it evoked emotion and boiled adrenalin. The author certainly has a way of keeping you guessing, keeping you hooked. She gives a realistic feel to how war actually is. No glamour; all death and betrayal.
The story itself was strong and focused. There were no extra parts thrown in that seemed to be just there to add to the word count. The descriptions, for the most part, drew you into a world where America was destroyed and fear was your only true companion.
The bad:
Minor grammar issues, but not too crazy. The author separates the book by POV, often having the reader follow numerous stories in small bursts. I’ve never been fond of this so it’s a negative in my book, but she does it well otherwise I would have never finished. If you learn anything from my reviews, it’s that I hate repetition. Repeated words, phrases, or general concepts make me mad. They jar the flow, and lessen the experience. This point is the main reason why she lost a heart on my scaling chart. I’ve certainly seen worse, but…authors…don’t beat your reader over the head with information! We’re not that dumb! Each section jumped POV so frequently--sometimes even mid paragraph-- that I had to reread parts to shift through whose eyes I viewed the story. This slowed me considerably. The ending seemed abrupt. It wasn’t bad, and it answered most question.
My Final Thoughts:
I have to recommend this book. Seriously…read it. It’ll keep you on the edge of your seat while showing a darker side of human nature. The reactions of the characters were dead on and completely believable. Author Shandy Kurth…Kudos to you!
Title: Devastation (Built On Fear 1) Author: Shandy L. Kurth Released date: December 14th 2011 Page count: 264 Genre: Young Adult, dystopia My rating: 5/5 stars
The Review: So recently I was introduced to this genre and have been finding more and more. Some how I managed to never read a book with this dystopia as their main theme. There were many characters and here's something to know don't grow attached to a group very much. Something I figured out also she has no problems killing off characters. She twisted words around so you eventually were trying to figure out who the good guys were, or rather there were any. Now I can't wait to read the second book and will be waiting for it to come! :D This was the first thing that came to my mind. 20% Okay this is what I expected. 50% Oh snap! 80% What the crap? 100% Happy ending.
My heart was pulled into this story before I even knew what happened. The story starts off with three sets of teens in dire circumstances. Canada has attacked the US and there is no longer work or school. There are only Americans fleeing across the nation to safety or hiding in their homes waiting for rescue. It has been 48 days and the state of Ohio is in devastation. 17 year old Fallon and his 15 year old sister, Sandi, are forced to leave their dying mom in search of food. 12 year old Emery and her 8 year old brother, Conner, were deserted by their mom and told to hide in the basement. But after running out of food they are also forced to flee. Desiree is 16 years old and after her father is killed by Canadian soldiers she barely escapes. Guy is a teen Canadian soldier who is under orders to “collect the survivors,” “leave the dead,” and “kill the injured.” He is only cooperating so that his family isn’t executed because you are either with the Canadian forces or you’re a traitor to them. Each of these characters has to face brutal situations and in the midst of devastation they have to move forward in hope or risk losing the will to live.
As much as I loved Fallon’s character the most, I believe that Guy had the most difficult fate in this story. He hates being forced into certain duties as a soldier and he must participate in gruesome murders and witness them being done without protesting. He is by no means a victim, but he’s not like the other soldiers. I was surprised at how he risks his life to do the right thing, but it’s characters like him who illustrate that there’s still humanity left in war even when there seems to be none.
The four scenes that disturbed me the most (other than the torture scenes and some brutality) were *the young girl that is found by Guy’s troops and killed on the spot because she is injured *the family driving by the four teens and leaving them in order to escape *the dogs eating a corpse and then attacking one of the main characters *one of the main characters is killed helping the others escape (I didn’t cry while reading, but that is hard to read even in fiction)
Some of the elements the teens have to survive is the weather (freezing at night and dry heat during the day-takes place in summer); coyotes; other people scavenging for food and willing to kill for it; no water for days; being separated at times and never knowing if they’ll see each other again; running from the bombing in cities; sleeplessness; sickness; starvation…..there is some profanity in the story but I was so drawn in that I ignored it. I also didn’t find the profanity offensive because these kids are truly tested (examples are h*ll, sh*t, bast*rd, and I think d*mn). There were a few grammar mistakes, but this ebook has the fewest that I’ve seen so far so they did not distract me at all. One of the characters is constantly quoting scripture as prayer throughout her ordeals and I found that to be admirable. She doesn’t lose her faith no matter how desperate she gets. These kids amazed me in their loyalty to one another. They repeatedly risk their lives to help the other when they are sick or injured. There are even some Canadians who have mercy when death seems imminent. I was reminded of the series Life As We Know It by Susan Beth Pfeffer, which is also about kids surviving when the moon is knocked off its axis by an asteroid. However, that book is about a natural disaster whereas Kurth’s book is about the effects of war. Like Pfeffer’s book(s), with Kurth you will be pulled in by the characters; you will appreciate every day luxuries we take for granted; and this story will demand your attention until the last page despite the violence. Overall, a GREAT story that is so well written that I held my breath for about the last 50 or 60 pages until finally breathing a sigh of relief at the conclusion (I would consider this PG-13). The ending is set up for the sequel, Isolation, but in my case this story can be experienced as a stand-alone. I bought this from amazon.
Let me begin by saying that this book was better than Kurth's last novel It Can Always Get Worse. There was better pacing, better plot development, better characters with more personalities, and overall better writing and use of writing conventions.
With that being said, I still have some issues with it.
The first and foremost issue is the outrageous amount of typos and grammatical errors in the book. This is not the author's fault; it's the editor's. How he could miss so many issues is beyond me. There were misuse of verb tenses, misuse of commas, run-on-sentences (that were obviously not intentional), etc. It drove me crazy! I can understand how a book may have an error or two, but this book definitely had more than that. Overall, it just distracted from the story.
Another issue that I had is the character development as a whole. There are a lot of main characters in the book, so everyone's development suffered just because attention had to be spread out. The characters were seldom together, so they didn't get a lot of interaction with each other. Each chapter focused on a different character, and Kurth had to keep each chapter short to get everything in. So, overall, I didn't feel connected to the characters simply because there wasn't enough time to get to know each one. Their characterizations felt obvious, without much depth or interesting qualities, but I guess this was needed to get everyone at least somewhat familiar. I always got them confused, and, despite the fact that I finished the book just over an hour ago, I probably could not recall everyone's names nor their respective personalities. It's so hard as an author to provide in-depth characterization when you have so many characters that need it. Therefore, I'm glad this is a series, as it means that more development will be in the future.
Finally, the whole patriotic, pro-American themes got a bit annoying at times. Those EVIL (persons that are the bad guys). I like the bad guys; it was very different than normal. However, with all the main characters (minus one) being American and highlighting the horrors of the other side, the "America Rocks" message was extremely prominent. I get it. I'm an American, and I like this country. But I would have loved to see Kurth better explore the atrocities on our side. I would have loved to see what the US did to push the bad guy's so far. Yeah, we got what happened in the end, but that wasn't near as bad as what the bad guys do.
Overall, yes, I liked this book. I may have had issue with it, but I will read the next. ;)["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>
First of all, I want to say that I love dystopian novels. My favorite book of all time is 1984. That can be both a good thing and a bad thing when reading another dystopian. To my relief, this book is nothing like 1984. 1984 is a classic and does not need reworking.
I found that this book engaged me right from the start. I liked the characters a lot, especially Fallon and Desiree. The story was well developed and kept my interest. If things drag in a book I am outta there, and this one kept me going. So, the characters were believable, the story was charged with drama and I became involved with each of them. A very vivid picture was painted of the future...until the end.
I thought the author's descriptions of torture and the horrors various characters went through was excellent. I could feel their pain and fear.
The hunger and thirst, the sickness that ensued, all became real. Well done again by the author.
The three things that kept this from 5 stars for me were:
First, Desiree quotes Bible verses and prays out loud a lot. It is very believable that some people would indeed do this when faced with the horrific situations these characters were placed in. However, it also stands to reason that those kind of reactions would really irritate other characters that were not the Bible quoting type. The only person this irritated was an enemy. It is hard to believe that every person on the "good side" was a Christian...so why not have at least one "good" charater express their irritation with this habit? I just think under that stress that it would raise the ire of some people. They would at least express the feeling that if God existed He would not let this happen and that they did not want to hear reasoning, to keep it the herself.
Secondly,we did not get to see more of the Canadian people's story. Because of that the "villians" were a bit one dimensional. Still scary, but it would have been nice to see their reasons for everything a bit more. Maybe that is a personal thing, but I like to see the reasons why a villian is a villian. It makes them meatier.
The other thing that was a bit disappointing for me was the ending. It was clumsy. The book just ended. The future they were so desperately heading for in "The Safe Zone' needed more filling out and some conclusion as to what the people would be hoping and working for. It may be that the author is planning a series, but even in a series the ending of each book needs to feel like the author did not just all of a sudden stop writing. That is how it felt to me.
Because my 3 criticisms are so long, this review looks like I had more to dislike than like and that is not true. I truly enjoyed this novel and would quickly recommend it to anyone. In general, very well done!
Disclaimer: I was given an e-book copy by the author in exchange for an honest review.
"Devastation" is set in 2032, and it follows a group of kids and a soldier as they try to escape from the war raging around them, a war between the U.S. and a very unlikely foe. Some of the children are related, and they are trying to save what little family they have left; others meet each other along the way and work to protect one another from the hazards of war, the elements, and just plain dehydration and exhaustion.
This book really pulled me in. As an American, I kept trying to put myself in the children's shoes, asking, "What would I do if this really happened?" (Answer: Probably die.) The opposing country is somewhat out of left field (for me anyway), but I think that really added to the story, just the simple fact that a country many Americans wouldn't dream of going to war with is attacking the U.S., and winning. Aside from that aspect, the relationships between the characters was very life-like, as they're just kids (the oldest is seventeen) trying to stay alive and help one another get to The Safe Zone in the South.
Meanwhile, we also get the perspective of a soldier from the opposing army, who is starting to wonder whether or not his side is right. His inner dilemma was very intriguing for me, as I know several soldiers who are overseas now, and they've often discussed feeling that dichotomy between what your country's asked of you and how you truly feel about the situation around you.
I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who likes dystopian stories, thrillers, action/adventure, and/or anybody who just wants to know who the other country is and why they've declared war against the U.S.!
5 stars, and I can't wait for "Isolation," the continuation of this dynamic story.
Imagine a world torn apart by war. Now imagine you’re just a kid and have to fend for yourself. Do you take in other kids and help them or do you just look out for number one? Well in this fabulous first novel by Shandy L. Kurth we find out just what makes us tick. I found myself thinking ahead. I found myself linked inexplicably to Fallon who seems to be just as I imagine I would be, helpful and protective of those younger than myself.
In this book Shandy does something I actually enjoyed, she made it clear in no uncertain terms which character we were dealing with and whose head we were in. This made it simple and clear for the reader to discover the ins and outs of the characters she has created. At first I was taken aback by the switch of perspectives but within seconds I realized that I loved that aspect of her writing.
The character development in this book was astounding. Kurth spent a lot of time in the minds of these characters and it shows in not only the dialogue but also in the personality of each character shining through. And we get to meet quite a few characters but it was never confusing in the least.
I must say that I tend to steer away from dystopian types of books since I prefer the happy ever after type story. But this one not only sucked me in but kept my attention from page 1 on through to the very last page and past. I closed the book saying to my husband “Ack I have to wait for book 2 to come out now” and I am NOT known for my patience in this regards. However lucky for me book 2 arrived in my greedy little hands not long after and now I’ve completed that one as well. Review to follow.
All in all this was a fabulous read and I recommend it to anyone who likes dystopian novels and even for those like myself who don’t tend to enjoy them, you may be surprised just as I was.

Devastation book Review.
I just finished Devastation and in my opinion it was enticing.
It pulled me in completely and kept me wanting more. As it went from character and back explaining the stories of young children/adults traveling through a broken America.Caught in the middle of a war between the U.S and Canada, young Sandi and her 17 year old brother Fallon head off into the unknown of the bombings of this treacherous war.Meeting others along the way in strive to protect themselves they stick together in hopes of finding a rumored "Safe Zone" in the South. Fighting through bombings.starvation, dehydration and the elements can they make it? is there even a safe zone?! This book kept me craving and wanting more. The characters find strength and hope in the darkest of times. It also shows you how precious this life is and to cherish everything you've got. It shows how harsh times can bring out the best and worst out in people, what would you do to save the ones you care for even if it meant your life was at risk?
Definetly an impacting story.
I rate this book 5/5 Stars: ★★★★★
This book is the first of the Built on Fear series and i was left begging for more!
If you would like to purchase or read up on this book:
Devastation by Shandy Kurth The Marquerings: starving and Fallon can't wait for things to get back to normal. His mother and sister live there also. His mother urges him to go with his sister and find the army as they can feed them. The Flories: Emery and her brother lived in the basement-where their mother left them, just about out of food. Desiree Baldi hid in a storm drain pipe in shock remembering the disfigurement of her father. Like how she uses phrases from the Bible to get her through her journey. Guy Gallagher is with the Canadian army and has been told to just find those who can walk on their own. When he finds an injured woman he has to leave her behind... The first two groups of kids do meet and travel together to WVA after the escaping the bombing. Love how the story goes from group to group and what's happening at the same time from their area. Fascinating part to me is that some of them have traveled through Ohio, towns I know because relatives live there. Love where they get their ideas from and put them to good use. Difficult at times to see how they are suffering but it's almost like they were trained to take care of themselves with what they find. Even what we would think is a useless they find a worthwhile use for. Some get captured and are brainwashed and work in the medical tent, some packaging foods from the troops. Tough to see what they go through to survive. Throughout the book some are praying, others have given up on being saved from God but after a time they are all praying in their own way, they believe in God again and he will help see them through this til they reach the safe zone. Glad there is another, if not several others.
Imagine a world where all your rights were taken away. I mean EVERYTHING. Houses, streets, towns, leveled by bombs. Ghost towns, lack of food, water, sort of like a modern day invasion apocalyptic style. Invaded by an unsuspecting country, forced to denounce everything you've ever known, for the "New Government" or face certain death. Fallon, Sandi, Emery, Conner, Desiree and Guy. Their stories enter twined with each others, all headed south to the US Army to be FREE. There is one heart stopping moment very time you turn a page. You were right there in the action, feeling the pain, heartbreak, suffering, ultimate Devastation. What were they survivors willing to do to stay alive, you will have to read this book to find out.
Good Points: Definitely no lack of story line in this book, kept me on my toes from cover to cover. The way the stories of the Characters paths crossed, the journey they took through the whole book was amazing. It was just the right amount of information, to keep you guessing and wondering what next?! It Kept My attention.
Bad Points: Not really any bad points to this book. Though it is not normally my style of book, I always keep an open mind when reading as you never know where the story takes you.
In closing: Shandy L Kurth did a excellent job writing Devastation. It is the first book in the Built on Fear Series. I am looking forward to the next installment in this series. I was glad we got a chance to read and write a review!
After being invaded by the Canadian army 17 year old Fallon and his 15 year old sister are left to take care of their dying mother. 12 year old Emery and 8 year old brother Conner are abandoned by their mother. 16 year old Desiree is on her own after her father is gunned down by the Canadians. Guy is a Canadian soldier who was heading off to college when he was called to a duty he didn't agree with, but to protect his family her goes. As the kids set off separately on a journey towards what they think may be a safe zone. They not only have to worry about the Canadian Army but also other American's attacking them, sickness, and lack of food and water. All the kids end up meeting along the way and traveling together until The soldiers capture all but Fallon, on the run, he finds Desiree and they begin their journey together. Throughout this story the kids are separated and reunited several times and have so much hardship that they bear with a strength and loyalty that most adults don't have. Some will not make it and the ones that do, may wish that they hadn't. This book has brainwashing, torture, loyalty, determination, twists and surprises galore. Definitely a Red Dawn type scenario on American soil. Worth a read for sure.
So I picked up this book because I sort of met the Author through another person on facebook. We have been commenting back and forth etc and I decided to get the book and have a read. Well I will say this I read this book in basically 1 sitting (took a 6 hour nap after being up for over 24 hours after I read the first chapter). However after my break/nap I couldnt put it down. I couldnt wait to get to the end, not so it would be over but so I could see what happened. The struggle these characters went through is something I hope never ever happens. The hope, love, friendships that carried them through is something I strive for in my daily life. Very good writing Shandy, Great details. I felt like I was there. Serveral times I had shivers and goose bumps on my person. I am looking forward to the next book, this is difentaly a series I will read. As I am not one to give good or bad critisms I would recommend this to other readers. Just be prepared to be taken to a place you would never willingly go, a place that is literally built on fear as the series is called. Very good job, thank you for sharing your amazing ability as a writer.
This story is fast paced, constantly changing and keeps you on your toes. I love the characters and their adventure. I cried so hard because you start to care for each of them. Shandy takes you on a journey through a new war, a devastated America and a fight for survival from several different characters eyes by way of continually changing groups. It broke my heart how people can lose their humanity and all their morals due to hunger, violence and fear but Shandy truly wrote a believable story line and events that could truly transpire when people lose hope. Although I really enjoyed this page turning read I did not feel it really had an ending or maybe it just didn't tie up all the loose ends as I felt it should. (I have since learned there is a second book.) I also feel that readers need to know that there is a lot of religious parts, references, prayers, scripture, etc. I think it tied in nicely and added to the strength of the characters by showing how their beliefs contributed to their strength and morals but I know there are a lot of readers who might not be open to it and should be aware of it prior to choosing to read Devastation.
In 2032, a war is raging in America. People who survive the devastated cities are trying to make it south to the rumored "Safe Zone". The story switches back and forth between different perspectives as everyone desperately fights for survival and the imminent threat of dehydration or worse. Much worse.
This book is fast paced and, at times, I literally had to walk away because I was reading too fast. I didn't want it to end. I felt a range of emotions as I followed everyone's journey down to the rumored "Safe Zone": scared, sad, happy, excited, hopeful and even mad, thinking why?? How could you! But this is war. War is not a pretty thing and the author did not side step the violence of war.
I really enjoyed this story: the creativity, the characters, the writing style, everything.
Devastation (Built on Fear 1) by Shandy L. Kurth not only solidifies my love for the Dystopian genre, but also gives me a new author to add to my favorites. Thank you Shandy!! I am really excited to read your next Built on Fear book.
I absolutely loved this book! I purchased it on a whim after hearing so many great things about it, and everyone's positives reviews were right! This is a wonderful dystopian fiction chronicling several children as they make their way through horror and pain to the "Safe Zone" on the east coast of America after a war with Canada erupts. Normally when a book has so many main characters, I choose a favorite and lose interest in the others. However, the author provided readers with an alternating point-of-view that was wonderfully written and allowed me to become invested in each character. The book has a great plot development that is fast paced and full of action, which made me never want to put the book down. I was really able to imagine what this world looked like because of the great description and imagery. I highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys dystopian fiction. I can't wait for the next book to come out!
This book was worth every penny spent on it....in fact it would be one of the rare ones that I would have spent $10.00 on for the e-book and will be purchasing the paper copy!
The chapters are written back and forth b/w characters but are done in a way that I wasn't left confused wondering who was who and it kept hold of my interest/attention. The characters are so well built that you will find yourself ripping through the pages to get to their stories wondering what is going to happen next and will they make it through the situation. I cried reading through this stories and what these KIDS had to go through. I can't imaging how strong they had to be and couldn't imaging myself in their position let alone surviving the situation they are in. One of the best things I liked this book was that this could actually happen and the stories are realistic...it makes you think about how you would be in these situations.
As an English teacher, I am always on the hunt for new books to introduce to my students, especially Dystopian ones. This novel didn’t disappoint. It follows teens who are moving to the “Safe Zone” after the US has been attacked by Canada. Set in 2032 and told from multiple points of view, the teens are plagued by a lack of food and water. They undergo devastation, brutality, and torture to the point where I had to set down my kindle to reflect. It did take me a little bit to get used to the jumping POV, but once I did, I could fully enjoy the story.
This novel is an eye-opening, jam-packed ride that kept me engaged from the beginning. It is definitely thought provoking and caused me to feel every emotion the characters felt. I am glad I found this little treasure and can’t wait to share it with my students. Despite the grammar/editing issues, I still liked the overall story and will recommend it. Good job, Ms. Kurth!
Love this book so much...WOW!!!! This could so easily happen and I dont think there are many of us who would be able to handle it....I dont know many adults much less YA who would be able to walk threw States to get to safety...What I found even more astounding is what I think would be worse being caught by the enemy and being abused, tortured and dang near killed plus being made to be forced to betray Country or finally thinking you are going to be safe because you are back with your Country and because you are wearing the wrong clothes going through the same thing all over again....I dont know how many people could come out of that and not be bitter.....This is a book that really makes you think and I am so glad I finally read it....
This book is very good and thought provoking. Shandy Kurth has made a thought that is unbelievable. America is totally destroyed by Canada. There is nothing left. Those that are, struggle to stay alive. At first it was a bit confusing the way the chapters were set up but once I got into the reading, it became clear the way it was done. It took me a day and a half to read it. What the children went through to stay alive is beyond imagination. I cannot wait for book 2. This is a book that you will not go wrong in reading. It deserves a 10+ star rating.
Imagine......The life you once had and everything and I DO mean everything in it has been destroyed, and you could be the ONLY survivor......You search high and low for shelter, saftey, and food, and ending up finding none of it......That's what happens in this book. Survivor's trying to survive after a military attack. Very fast paced and easy read!! I LOVEd this book and in my opinion, it is a MUST read!! Thank you, Author Shandy L Kurth for such a heart pounding, eye awakening story!! This could be us someday!!
This book has it all. Danger, excitement, emotion, friendship, survival. It is extremely well written and very entertaining and engaging. It is told through the view point of several characters. I would recommend this book to anyone looking for a YA Dystopian Thriller. Personally the only thing I didn't like about this book was who the bad guy was. That's it. And it's only because I'm from that country & well I love my country! :) But yes if your looking for a great book that is well written, I suggest you give this book a chance.
I was very excited to read this book and thankfully I was not disappointed! I love Dystopian books and Shandy L. Kurth's "Devastation: Built on Fear 1" is perfect for you if you also like Dystopian books. I will not be giving away any of the book in my review, but I will say that I loved who the enemy was in this book (a very nice change of pace). I'm waiting impatiently for Part 2 to be released.
I truly enjoyed this book. The suspense kept you on the edge of your seat, the character made you want to hug them and weep on their shoulders, and the bits of humor softened it all. The characters are well rounded and believable, which seems to be difficult for many authors. Not Shandy! The overall writing was strong with some errors, but we all have those, don't we?
Overall this is a great read, and I recommend this. I also recommend following the author on facebook.
This book was a great read. Very fast paced and full of action. It shows you what would happen if the US was invaded by a unlikely country. My heart was in my throat most of the time. Nothing like your country being invaded to get your heart beating fast. Alliances are made, stretched, and broken. It gives you a glimpse into peoples character and how adults and "children" react in times of crisis. I was left wanting more.
I'm not even sure of what to write. I mean, I don't know how to put the awesomeness of the book down to words. First of all, I just want to make it clear that I love this book. I was drawn in from the first page. Everything about the book is good. When I finished the last page, I was desperate to read the second. That's how good it is. Believe me, you won't regret giving this book a chance.
I thought this was an action packed book that kept me riveted to the pages. It makes you want more to know what will happen next to the group. I highly reccomend this book to anyone who loves to read. Just let it take u away to a time and place that you would never think it would happen to us.
Devastation is one of the best books I have ever read! It has an amazing story and I could visualize every word in my head. I recommend this book to everyone who loves awesome fiction novels and fantasys.
Not what I would normally read, got it cheap and decided to give it a shot, was so glad I did, absolutely loved it, great story, kept me gripped throughout, cant wait till the next one ( Isolation), get it and read it, you wont be dissapointed, If I could give it more than 5 stars I so would.
This, and the earlier book, Devastation, are a look at the United States and the aftermath of an unexpected war. Both are worth reading. It was interesting to read about all the young adults caught up in the war.
