When she meets Belial, Dahlia can't wish for a better distraction from life. But a fun night of drinking turns bizarre when Belial introduces Dahlia to Lucien and the rest of her friends, men who are exceedingly rich, in short supply of morals, overflowing with violent tendencies, and interested in everything about her. Dahlia is charmed by her new friends, but something about them seems strangely familiar and it should. Lucien is Lucifer Morningstar, his friends are fallen angels, and Dahlia is no ordinary woman; she is the very reason they were tossed out of Heaven. She is the reincarnated spirit of Lucifer's equal and former lover, the imprisoned Primangel Ladriam. Within her, lies the power to restart and win the war against Heaven, but first she needs to survive dating the devil.Rated MatureHumor-Adventure-Paranormal 130,000

I earned a degree in Comparative Religion, so themes-wise that certainly pops up here and there in my writing (okay, more than a little here and there in some books).

I write what I enjoy reading/watching - which is fantasy/sci-fi with dark humor and a bit of romance. What I consider romance however is to some...a bit off (and kinked out). And when I say dark humor I mean black. But I always have lighthearted moments (I do not believe a story should be all one way or another). Gotta spice things up!

Speaking of...I like to write stories that cater to all sexual preferences in one story (as opposed to just writing gay/lesbian lit, etc). I have your typical male-female romances. I have male-male, female-female, transgender, bi-sexual, sub-dom, etc. This is mostly due to the fact that well...1. I like writing about it. 2. I see it in my everyday life. 3. I like having a well-rounded cast of characters from all walks of life.

“You absorb me in spite of myself - you alone.” Lucifer spoke into her hair, “You are always new. The last of your kisses was ever the sweetest; the last smile the brightest; the last movement the gracefullest.”

In this wonderful tale of Lucifer and his counterpart Ladriam. A human baby is born and an angel hides in her body! Ladriam is imprisoned in Heaven for an eternity, but she escapes and hides in that of a human baby girl named Dahlia. Lucifer is bereft, he was instrumental in her imprisonment and has been trying to atone for a lifetime. He's sucken into a dark whole of despair until one day one of the Fallen...Belial has news of Ladriam's return. What they don't know, is that she is human.

Dahlia has been plagued with horrid dreams all her life, is terrified of darkness, she hates her job, life is bland...until she meets Belial at a local restaurant. Belial introduces her to her friend Lucien and all of his friends. They become enamored by her....finally they found Ladriam. And she inexplicably takes a strong liking the them. They seem so familiar to her and they all become inseparable. But time is running out for them. The Archangels are coming for Ladriam to take her back to her prison and kill Lucifer and the fallen once and for all! But they will do anything in their power not to ever let her be taken again!

Wow!!! What a great ride, lemme tell ya!! First, I want to say Thank you to Darcy Town for giving me this book to review!! It is a fantastic book and I cannot wait to read the rest!!

The cast of characters in this book is what made it a winner for me! Furcas and Paimon(her guardians) always bickering with each other and competing with each other on who can please Dahlia the best(not that way). Belial....is a tough as bitch with a soft side for Dahlia and a secret one for a certain Fallen...but I wont name him, you just gotta read to find out! Helion, an Angel who is earth bound but hasn't fallen yet. But is starting to love his new life. Reading about him learn about food, movies, sex....hilarious! When Belial and Helion meet up it doesn't start out pleasant. But I found myself drawn to Belial and her viciousness.

“Helion,” she purred. “Please tell me why you’re here before I eviscerate you.” She nipped at his fingers. His eyes watered. “Belial, please?” She grinned. “Yes, please beg first.” Helion grimaced. “No. You do not understand!” “Make me understand. Tell me your secrets, brother. Tell me it all before I take you to pieces.”

All of the Fallen just dotes on Dahlia and its wonderful to see them fight for her attentions. Especially Belial and her cockblocking...priceless! I loved how, in the begining, each of the Fallen got their own introduction, getting an indepth view of their personalities! Thats what I love about 3 person stories....Any who. But Furcas' intro was by far the best!

"The guy in charge, Furcas didn’t remember his name, held up a sharpened blade of iron. Furcas sighed; this part was always so taxing. “I’ll talk. I’m scared! Oooh. Look I’m a scared Lilliam. Please human, don’t hurt me!” His eyes welled with tears.
The man nodded. “You should be scared. We’ll get the location of your damned City and exterminate all of you!” Furcas grinned.
“Really? That’s your secret plan, never could have guessed that. Wow, you’re going to take everyone by surprise. How clever they’ll say! Do you think the Archangel Michael will give you a gold star?”
“Gag him.” Furcas leaned back.
“Don’t mess up the hair please. It took me hours to get it just so.”
In the pile of clothing that had made up Furcas’ attire, his phone went off. He snapped to the beat until he realized whose ring tone it was. He made a face. “Sorry guys, but I can’t ignore it. I would really like to though.” He broke the iron shackles that held him in place. He stood up and rested his hands on his bare hips. The men stopped what they were doing and gaped. He posed. “Yes, I think it’s quite impressive too. I’m really happy with the way it turned out.” He pushed past the men and grabbed his cell phone. An iron knife went into his lower back. Furcas backhanded the knife-wielder and pulled the knife out.

And last but not least Lucifer! He is so damn sexy and not bad as people have been led to believe! When Belial and Helion gives him a message from Ladriam, his reaction is so powerful I swear I could feel his torment, his sorrow and hope that he can make up for everything.

Lucifer shuddered. He ripped his clothes and wailed. “If I still love you? If. If!” He tore his hair out in bloody clumps. “Nothing to me is more than you! At first sight I was struck. I am still falling, still burning. I am still yours!” He gnashed his teeth. Lucifer tore the couch in half and shredded the leather with his fingers. He felt too much. Fire consumed him, burned inside where he had felt nothing but sorrow and regret. He cried out in the ancient language of the Fallen and shattered the windows. His eyes glowed blue. He pointed to Belial.
"Find her now!"

He really does love Ladriam. And its crazy watching him struggle with his instincts and what is really right. Ladriam is now human and she is now Dahlia. She doesn't know him from Adam and he wants her with an all consuming urgency that he sometimes he can't think straight! But if he tells her he loves her she'll think he's a creep! Having not moved from the couch in centuries has made him rusty. And really, what would he know about romancing a human. But I think he does a great job and Dahlia and Lucifer have some really sweet moments.

All in all, fantastic book! I just started the next one and thank God all of em are out cuz I would be dying! Please get out there and get this book. It really is great!

I received an eBook copy for free in exchange for an unbiased review. My thoughts are my own, and my thoughts are that this book ROCKS! It gives a new and unique spin to the fallen angels/Satan/Arch Angels. I thoroughly enjoyed it, and it ROCKED MY SOCKS RIGHT OFF!

And let throw this little nugget out there:
Satan watching daytime soaps. Funny, funny stuff! Okay, one more nugget: fallen angel pillow fight. You heard that right.

Have you ever read a book, and in the middle of reading it- I sh*t you not, I swear the book nearly broke out in a musical. Dancing across tables, the whole room dancing and moving and stomping and even Satan himself, playing the fiddle. Any book that can pull that off in a non-High School Musical kind of way is BRILLIANT!

As long as you can look past your preconceived notions of "The Father of Lies" then I can't see how anyone could not adore this book. It has romance, fighting, song and dance, friendship, betrayal... it's like a whole season of Dallas, a musical, some fascinating fallen angels, and a devil that could melt your pants right off with his depth of feeling while still forcing you to laugh so hard you are reduced to tears at his attempts to familiarize himself with modern times... all rolled into one.

I immediately started hounding begging Darcy Town to PLEASE let me read book two! And *grabs my poms poms* I got it already on my 'precious' (Kindle.) So run out there, and check it out. If you are against reading it by subject matter alone, I entreat you to try it out. My guess is it will charm the pants right off you!

Here are some quotes to wet your whistle:
"She's determined at being an epic cock block tonight"

"This is part of your corporate image? Fuck-me boots, seriously?"

"That would have been hard to explain. 'Hey Dahlia, you can create life, just make out with Lucifer!'"

"Dahlia stuck her thumb at Lucifer. 'He's my bitch now.'"

"Lucifer didn't even want to think about the cheese grater incident."

I really liked this book for various reasons:

it took the story of heavenly strife and turned it on its head

the supporting characters were each shown a lot of love

it was a chunkster but like Alana said, it was worth it!

the author does great one liners and I'm already a fan of her sense of humor after reading Wastes of Space.

Helion was the cutest-he was like a lost puppy..a kid discovering simple delights like food and shopping.

Reading about Lucifer behaving like a guy smitten with love was interesting and the way he switched back to his old archaic self when hurting was awesome!

BUT:

be warned that there's a lot of silliness-Belial, Andy and Paimon behave like teenagers..a lot! If you don't want to read about ancient demons acting that way, you might not wanna read this.

not much actually "happens" in the book till the ending.

the way Furcas and Paimon reverted back to being Faith and Patience and just "magically" solved all of Dahlia's problems was a bit annoying.

Already looking forward to the next one!

Dahlia is a hardworking young lady who compulsively paints the angelic subjects of her dreams that torment her nightly. These aren't your everyday chubby cherubs, these angels are dark, vicious , and downright dangerous. Little does she know that her dreams are actually suppressed memories of another lifetime, and her new friend Belial and her crew are a group of Fallen angels Dahlia used to know very, very well.

I think I'll start off by discussing the kinds of things I look for in a great read. My ideal book is dark, dangerous, exciting, sexy, and thought provoking. I also love when an author can round these elements out with humor. Now, let me explain why Morningstar just didn't do it for me.

While there are darker core story elements, they are overwhelmed with the excessive lighthearted humor. Every time there was a flashback or talk of Lucifer and Dahlia's past, I would get excited and think I had finally reached the meat of the story, only to be disappointed when the silly romp continued on. I can see this kind of thing working for readers looking for a light, zany read, but for me The Fallen spent too much time being hyper and baking cookies, and not enough time being sexy bad-asses. All madness with very little direction made Morningstar a frustrating read. I just wanted to get to the good stuff!

A good romp can do wonders for your character development. Sending your characters off on a shopping trip, having them cook something together, or even letting them throw a house party allows the reader to become better acquainted with the aspects of their personalities that may not be visible in your current plot line. However in this case, Morningstar suffers from too much of a good thing. These character building vignettes shouldn't detract from the overall plot progression, or become the focus of your book and unfortunately in this case, both of these are true.

Of course, this book isn't without it's merits. For the first third of the book I enjoyed the writing style, well delivered one-liners and tender moments between Lucifer and Dahlia that pepper the narrative occasionally. I'm not talking about the gratuitous amounts of PDA. The scenes I'm referring to are the real heart-to-heart moments they have when they are, for the most part, alone. The tenderness of Lucifer and the wide-eyed wonder of Dahilia make for a truly beautiful combination.

The narrative is well written for the most part with the exception of the battle scenes which come off painfully technical.

"A knife came soaring at them. Lucifer caught it and threw it back at the attacker stopping him in his tracks. Furcas jumped on a man to their left. Dahlia kicked at another as he grabbed for them. A soldier stabbed Lucifer in the back. Dahlia screamed. Lucifer pulled the blade out and tore open the man's throat."

As you can see, any excitement these scenes possess is greatly overshadowed by the bland, "He did this and she did that" format. There are very few transitions or descriptors throughout. To be fair, battle scenes are very difficult to write without becoming repetitive if you don't have extensive practice, but with some blocking and the helping hand of a more action oriented writer, these scenes can become pivotal to your reader's emotional investment.

While reading, I mostly struggled between hope and frustration. There were moments when I could see a glimpse of what this book could have been. The material, characters, and history of this mythology that the author had to work with could have made for a truly epic story. I saw potential in the poeticlly written memories and flashbacks, and in my favorite line said by Lucifer near the end of the novel.

"This I deserve but you do not. Within you, you posses the power of Hell. Rage Dahlia. Tear Heaven down."

The Final Verdict
While the characters are likeable and the core conflict is interesting enough, there just isn't enough real story. There are very few noticeable plot progression points and the action of the last twenty percent comes much too late.

If you are looking for a lighthearted read filled with colorful characters that is devoid of heavy themes, Morningstar could be the book for you. Unfortunately, it just wasn't my thing.

Who ends a book in the middle of a critical fight?! WHO DOES THAT?!

One whole star off for the cliffhanger.

*Book source ~ A review copy was provided in exchange for an honest review.

Dahlia is not like other humans. But she doesn’t know that. Yet. She’s living a pretty boring life until one day she runs into Belial and her group of co-workers. Well, co-workers in the loosest sense. They’re actually fallen angels and they can’t believe they’ve discovered a reincarnated Primangel Ladriam, Lucifer’s one true love. Uh, oh. Shit’s about to hit the fan because she’s supposed to be imprisoned in Heaven, not be loose down on Earth.

While I find this story quite entertaining at times, there are other times where it drags on and on. Also, the writing is sloppy and jerky as if the author doesn’t want to completely fill out the scenes. It could definitely use more editing. In addition, Dahlia is a bit too Mary Sue. She can do no wrong and everyone loves her. *gag me* Except the angels, of course. They hate her. And my biggest complaint is the ending. Who ends a book right in the middle of a critical fight scene?! No. Just, no. There was a perfect stopping point right before it got that far. I am unbelievably pissed about the ending.

What if you have your average day to day life..(that sucks) and you find out that the man your falling in love with is actually the devil, the fallen angel Lucifer? "Morningstar" is really a great story and absolute a tease as first book of this trilogy what promises to be an exciting addition to the Paranormal Readers World. It got me hooked from the beginning and was hard to put down. Darcy has given me a unique world with the modern setting, dialogue and crack-me-up jokes and with the paranormal elements/characters like fallen- and guardian angels, protection of a human good luck charm, Genon's and more.

Darcy Town has written a fast-paced story full of love, betrayal, games and full force action. I did miss a few things/answers in Morningstar because Morningstar ended with a huge cliffhanger, but Darcy guaranteed me that all the mystery in Morningstar will be explained in the next book(s) Evenstar and Daystar :)

Quote:
“Lucifer looked over her shoulder. “What?”

Dahlia cleared her throat. “You stupid bitch, I hate you and love you. Do not wear anything Patience gave you, it’s all ugly. I am going to write on every single blank page. Ha-ha! Love, the Faithful slut.”

Lucifer scowled. “That person was mean to you.”
Dahlia grinned. “No way, Faith was funny. I was the bitch, she was the slut, and Patience was the crack whore.”
― Darcy Town, Morningstar

This trilogy is exiting and addicting and i believe if you like books by Allison Moulton or the Kate Daniels series by Ilona Andrews you definitely going to enjoy reading Morningstar by Darcy Town.

The reviews of readers on the Goodreads website says Darcy Town is getting better and better with each book of the Morningstar Trilogy. I haven't read book 2 and 3 yet but i absolutely believe them.

The story starts off with Lucifer in complete despair, in so much despair that he stayed in the same spot, unmoving for years and years. Plants grew around, and on him until the very house became a forest itself. Right off the bat, this scene enamored me. What has caused his anguish? What great force could sink perhaps one of the powerful biblical figures ever known to man? The next scene jumped to a year later where a couple of strangers stood before an unattended baby carriage. The baby girl who seemed just as enthralled captivated the strangers. And then there was a conversation between the two that hinted on the fact that they knew the baby’s soul as the reincarnation of someone they used to know. I was hooked right then. I was dying to know how Lucifer would react to “seeing” Ladriam again. His soul mate – his better half and the only being equally powerful than Satan himself. Lucifer was both terrified and anxious to see Ladriam again; after all, she was the reason for his world stopping. But seeing Ladriam would also mean her eventual realization for his role in her torture and imprisonment in the hands of Michael. Seriously, after this brief synopsis, why wouldn’t you be freaking pumped to read this refreshing take on angels and demons story? The history is so evolved and heavily laden with complicated myths.

So what went wrong?

I’ll tell you.

Sadly, there was only about 10% of the story that focused on this myth. The rest was spent with the Fallen trying to show Dahlia a good time. Drinking copious amounts of alcohol, partaking in hallucinogens such as ‘shrooms and fairy wine, and basically just showing her what she’s been missing from her sheltered life. I have no idea how these all became relevant to Dahlia remembering who she truly was. I think at some point, Lucifer was given a timeline as to how long the rest of the Fallen would give him before they stepped in and intervene. They wanted to wake up the side of Dahlia that represents the formerly imprisoned and tortured Ladriam. But the whole thing dragged. I don’t know about you, but makeovers, baking cookies, pool parties – they just didn’t seem like the kind of things these angels-gone-bad would do.

I do like the author’s writing. It’s nicely polarized. She could switch from modern slang to an old language that suited the angels. I am also a fan of how well conceptualized her myth was. I just wish she didn’t spend a lot of time focusing on the lighter side of being friends with the devils.

I also like the idea that for every Fallen angel is a sibling counterpart. Lucifer and Michael, Belial and Helion, Berith and Uriel, Paimon and Gabriel…and so on. Like I said, I wish the author cultivated this element of the story even more. It had such great potential.

VERDICT: Despite my misgivings, I liked this book – liked it enough to continue with the series. I have big hopes that the next two books would involve some fierce sword fights and ass-kicking of the heavenly variety. It’s frustrating to see a great story fall flat because the author took it to a direction it had no business of going. This could’ve been so great.

I highly recommend this book.

The relationships formed around and with the main character, Dahlia, were what really enthralled me. Town's level of detail in creating characters is astounding, and contributes to making this a fantastic read.

This storyline did not feel trite or slow at any point, and the characters were portrayed in a wonderfully unique light. I never knew what would happen next.

This novel is imaginative, creative, enthralling, sexy, and devious. I loved it. Heck, I was reading this at work!

Word of advice: buy all three at once. I am very impatiently waiting for the second and third books to arrive!

Fallen angels

Morningstar was so enjoyable loved getting lost in this amazing world of fallen angels ,the story was fun with plenty of action and Lucifer well he was very swoony, Dahlia/ladriam was a great character and it will be very interesting to see where this story is heading, its a novel concept where the angels are the villains and the fallen the good guys. This is the first book I've read by Darcy Town and I found it well written and addictive , great read.

For centuries, Lucifer is nothing without his love, Ladriam. Then, there is a message by angel-mail (in the form of a falling angel) that Ladriam has escaped her entrapment and is on Earth. At once Lucifer is on full alert and ready to rally up his crew, "the Fallen," in order to find her. And he will find her, regardless of barriers or annoying human interferences. Even after he finds her there's these pesky human rules and pretenses that he must overcome, not that he doesn't sneak in as much romance and wild passion as Dahlia and the Fallen will allow.

The Fallen's response to finding Dahlia was both amusing and heart-felt. Belial and Lucifer's jealous protectiveness over Dahlia was endlessly entertaining. Lucifer especially was a wonder as his usually grim and tense persona was replaced by blundering shyness. His last interaction with anyone was centuries ago. How should he speak to her, how should he act around her, what if he ends up pushing her away? These questions and more make Lucifer's return strenuous and confusing.

The description builds up in a dreamlike quality, grabbing the reader's attention and locking their eyes to the words. You really get to feeling Dahlia's pains of daily living. I connected immediately with her as I, too, am an artist with the wish to travel. She also recognizes the apparent insensibility of it, however, and that just locks in my sympathies for her.

Most importantly than probably anything else was that just a short way into the story I was already able to visualize all the pertinent characters. I don't know about other readers, but I like to go online and do a search for people that might look like the characters I read about in stories; given a few basic traits I might look for a person from a TV show I've seen. This way I'm watching as much as I'm reading. I highly recommend this method of reading whenever possible!

I laughed so hard at some of these character's antics (what for them is normal behavior). Take this excerpt for example:

'She'd stripped down to her push-up bra and thong. She closed her eyes and spun in a circle. "I don't
feel anything!"

Paimon squinted. "There are no marks. You're not turning a color when you point one direction."

Belial snapped her teeth. "I am not a compass."

Furcas sat at her feet. "Apparently you are."

Paimon grabbed a breast. "Maybe it's the female add-ons that make the difference."

Belial nodded. "That makes sense."'

That they view these human vessels so objectively is the real jewel within the lines, and that's just one of the ways humor plays such a huge role in this story.

I really liked that the story had all sorts of fantasy creatures, like elves and other Fae, in addition to the angels that it focuses on. It augments the main storyline, as well as adding dimension to the characters.

Darcy's got the flow of the writing down like a pro. Which suggests major skill. Despite the drama and long-lost love between Lucifer and Dahlia/Ladriam. It's so hard to read this without grinning, as there is so much humor throughout. There's not a single person i would not recommend this to. It is, absolutely, first-rate entertainment that I would re-read again and again.

Warnings: Violence, Language, Adult themes, Cliffhanger!

Promo: Hilarity, Romance, Endless amusement

5/5 Crescents!

I have read so much Twific in the last few months it's ridiculous! And so considering this is the first "book" I have read in quite some time I'm actually finding it rather hard to write an objective review. In a nutshell, another bunch of fallen angels living on earth after "The Fall". This time they are the good guys and the whole "Satan", "Hell" "temptation of Man" is a smear campaign from on-high. There is an interesting spin on the Creation theory, which I liked, I'm a huge fan of authors spinning their version of the best known piece of fiction ever written.

I downloaded this book from Amazon, it was free at the time, just as well. It isn't particularly long, but it still could have been edited of half its content. There are some scenes that are so drawn out you're reading them thinking "OK! Something must be going to happen otherwise why are we still here?" No reason, just no one bothered to tell the author that she should cut her ramblings as it was bordering on tedious. The back story of Dahlia and Lucien has some merit, some pretty good repartee back and forth, in fact the best part of this whole story for me was Lucien. Imagine the devil trying to get to grips with 21 century America after sitting in one spot mourning the loss of his love for aeons .
"The hair makes you look not look like someone's great-grandfather and the shirt is edgy"
"I am Lucifer. I do not need to be made edgy".
There is some really humourous parts to this book, as you can imagine all the Fallen are slightly crazy and this plays out well in the story. But I can't honestly say that I'm rushing to download book 2 and 3, unless they become free too? And Amazon rated it M (mature)? Really, language wise maybe but there isn't a single lemon in the whole book. Which for me is pretty strange, Dahlia and Lucien haven't been together for millenniums, when they finally are, no sex? Lucien keeps getting cockblocked by his Archangels and he allows it...something about this just doesn't sit right with me and as the story continue Lucien loses almost all his devilish creditability.

If you can get this book for free then by all means download it a give it a go, but if not? I'd pass, there are much better fallen angels type fiction out there..

The author has a wonderful ability to write unique characters who seem real and vibrant, and very interesting. The story was also an original take on the mythos. (or I've not read it before anyway) All the mysterious allusions to their shared past got a bit old. Flashbacks, ugh. And, yeah, I'm sure Lucifer is smokin' hot,but I doubt he's that freaking precious. Baking cookies? Knowing demons are at the mall explains my hatred of the place. All in all it was a good read marred somewhat by the fact it contained nothing more than cooking, parties, illicit drugs, shopping trips and one big bitter fight between a bunch of angry relatives. That sounds about like my last family reunion. However, I did find myself wanting to read the next book to find out what happened to all those secondary characters the author wrote so well.

I'm not sure if I should rail against you or applaud. I mean it. The cliffhanger is f*cking smart. I admit it. But I hate it with a passion. I cannot believe you left this book in the middle of a fight scene with the good guys dying. I hate you right now. I really do. I did not deserve this and you are cruel. I'm torn between bashing your head against a wall or hug you for your brilliance and savvy.

You know...I could go on and on but I'm gonna buy the next book instead. Not that you deserve it but I'm dying to read more.
