I was intrigued by the premise of the story. What was Santa Claus like as a child?
The story was ok, the writing could be choppy in some places, glossing over events as a “a few hours later”, “the next year”, “a few years had passed”. It felt rushed.
I did like the story, but only like.
I cared about Nickolai and his friends, I wanted them to succeed, and was happy in the end.
Santa as a kid, I’m happy with this possible explanation, mostly.
Edited to add: After writing this review I’ve learned there is a second book, and now I want to read it. That’s a sign I should make it 3.5 stars, right?
