Blake Fortune might not have been the easiest boss in the world, but Katie Wallace knew him better than anyone. Neighbors and longtime friends, she and Blake made a great team. Katie dreamed they'd someday be more....
But time was running out. Spurred on by last month's life-altering tornado, Blake had decided it was time for him to marry--somebody else! With the rest of the Fortunes rooting her on, the spunky secretary had to find a way to change his mind fast. Could her plan really win over the Fortune of her dreams?
Marie Rydzynski was born on March 28 in West Germany to Polish parents. She moved to America at the age of four. For an entire year, Marie and her family explored the eastern half of the country before finally settling in New York.
Marie swears she was born writing, "which must have made the delivery especially hard for my mother." From an early age, Marie's parents would find her watching television or tucked away in some private place, writing at a furious pace. "Initially, I began writing myself into my favourite shows. I was a detective on '77 Sunset Strip,' the missing Cartwright sibling they never talked about on 'Bonanza' and the 'Girl from U.N.C.L.E.' before there was a 'Girl from U.N.C.L.E.,' not to mention an active participant in the serialized stories of 'The Mickey Mouse Club.'" Marie began to write her first romance novel when she was 11 years old, although she claims that, at the time, she didn't even realize it was a romance! She scribbled off and on, while dreaming of a career as an actress.
Marie was only 14 when she first laid eyes on the man she would marry, truly her first love, Charles Ferrarella. During her days at Queens College, New York, acting started to lose its glamour as Marie spent more and more time writing. After receiving her English degree, specialising in Shakespearean comedy, Marie and her family moved to Southern California, where she still resides today.
After an interminable seven weeks apart, Charles decided he couldn't live without her and came out to California to marry his childhood sweetheart. Ever practical, Marie was married in a wash-and-wear wedding dress that she sewed herself, appliqués and all. "'Be prepared' has always been my motto,"the author jokes. This motto has been stretched considerably by her two children, Nikky and Jessi, "but basically, it still applies," she says.
In November of 1981, she sold her first novel for Harlequin. Marie, who now has written over 150 novels, has one goal: to entertain, to make people laugh and feel good. "That's what makes me happy," she confesses. "That, and a really good romantic evening with my husband." She's keeping her fingers crossed that her reader's enjoy reading her books as much as she enjoyed writing them.
Wendy and Kate have been friends most of their lives. Kate now works for Blake, Wendy's brother and the man that she secretly is in love with but doesn't feel the same away about her. Drives Wendy crazy because her brother wants to get back with his ex high school sweetheart Brittanie who no one in the family but Blake likes.
Wendy does everything she can think of to help Kate when her true love. An awesome story that does not disappoint.
Great! Really great! For the first time in a long time I totally enjoyed a Marie Ferrarella story from start to finish. This past year or so, MF has written stories so quickly that I felt she wasn't putting out quality work just to spite the Harlequin editors who have her locked up in their basement at the HQ off Don Mills Rd. Lol
Katie Wallace was a smart, beautiful and courageous heroine in the way she won over Blake. Not sure why she would want to win over Blake because he was the biggest flake in Fortuneville. Thankfully he smartens up and sees what's right before him and we get ourselves an excellent happily ever after.
Wendy, Blake's sister, should really go into business in a career where she can give love advice to those girls looking to get their man. She's very smart about it.
Also great about this story were the tie-ins to the characters who will feature in Fortune's Whirlwind Romances to follow.
Blake Fortune thought he wanted to win back an old flame, but his assistant, Katie Wallace, knows the woman, a shallow social butterfly. Katie has been in love with Blake for years, and he has been totally blind to her love, only seeing his efficient assistant- the girl who lived next door as they grew up. When he asks her to help him plan a campaign to woo and win back the socialite, she agrees, but she's not going to be giving the kind of help he is expecting. A stand alone romance in the Fortunes of Texas series, written by multiple authors, these novels are all solid stories with defined characters and locations, and a HEA ending.
This romance was sweet, but my goodness, Blake could be so thick sometimes it was almost painful. I felt bad for Katie being ignored for so long. A lot of their interactions were cute. I think I might have rated this higher if it hadn't taken until the last moment for Blake to admit his feelings. I tend to dislike romances around training the love interest to attract another person. However, this romance exceeded my expectations and did not dwell overly much on the other woman.
If you spend a book making someone DESPERATE for a man there has to be something likable about him! Also he only really notices her when shes dressed hot, blah. I did like the sister on bed rest and labour side story. This book also made too many references to other books in the series I did not read. Honestly 2.5 but I feel too bad making the books score go down.

3.5 stars. A funny romance, with a clueless H and a h who helps/not helps Blake win some other woman. Some of the scenes were amusing. I found Blake hard to cheer for; not enough evidence of him caring for Katie.
I don't know, maybe I wasn't in the right frame of mind for this story to really enjoy it more. I have always likes Marie Ferrarella's writing and stories. I'll have to re-read this at a later date to see if my enjoyment and opinion change.
Blake is blinded by a "teenage fantasy" supposedly about "the one that got away" so to speak and has selective memory concerning his break-up with Brittany Everett in his college days. After the Fortune family survived a tornado, at the airport outside Red Rock, Tx, everyone seems to be re-evaluating their lives. Blake believes it's time he focused on his personal life and decides to go after Brittany thinking she'll be the "woman of his dreams". In an effort to put his "campaign" into practice he enlists the help of his assistant, Katie Wallace. Unfortunately for Katie, she's been in love with Blake since she was a teenager and his sister's best friend. How can she agree to help him to reconnect with his old flame without breaking her heart in the process...
