《明朝那些事儿(第2部):万国来朝》的内容自永乐夺位的“靖难之役”后开始，先叙述了中国历史上赫赫有名的永乐大帝事迹——挥军北上五征蒙古，派郑和七下西洋，南下讨平安南，等等，后来永乐于北伐蒙古归来途中病逝。明朝在经历了比较清明的“仁宣之治”后，开始进入动荡时期。大宦官王振把持朝政胡作非为，导致二十万精兵丧于一旦，幸亏著名忠臣于谦在“土木堡之变”中力挽狂澜，挽救了明帝国，但随即又在两位皇帝争夺皇位的“夺门之变”后被害身亡。这一系列的事件和人物都精彩无比，可说高潮迭起，令人目不暇接、欲罢不能。

It is not as exciting as the first one, but still worth a try.

In the second book of this series, the writer has put too much of his personal ideas/thoughts/emotions in the writing, which leaves less space for readers to make their own conclusions.

However, for a reader like me, who does not have much knowledge about Ming Dynasty, this book can be used to develop a basic understanding of the history of this period.

Zhu Di (Yongle Emperor) is a mighty and capable emperor. He can fight while riding a horse and rule a country with ease. In contrast, his great grandsons, Zhu Qizhen (Yingzong Emperor) and Zhu Qiyu (Jingtai Emperor), are completely opposite of him. From being brothers to enemies, everything starts from power in their mind.

我覺得比第一集好看，可能因為第二集講的歷史是我相對比較不熟悉的：明成祖的政績（永樂大典.....鄭和下西洋.....），仁宗、宣宗時期的三楊輔政，以及土木堡之變。因為不熟悉，所以很新鮮，很想知道接下來會怎麼樣。明英宗的人生波折不斷，跌宕起伏，感覺不用加油添醋也可以拍成好看電視劇的樣子。

I love this series books so much. The history stories are so vivid under the author's expression.
I like Zhu Yuanzhang and Zhu Di, they are both good emperor but may be bad man. The book told us China was so strong at that time, not only science but also military. The Han nationality is the biggest nationality in China, and they got very innovated and creative. But Yuan dynasty which build by Mongolia and Qing dynasty built by Manchu are all stopped China in the history river. They are all got a bad result, Qing dynasty even worse and make China so weak and sealing.
But I'm so happy China was a best Country when in Tang and Ming dynasty. All of other countries come to China and learning the latest technology. I'm so proud of I'm Chinese, it's not as strong as that time. But it's becoming waking again. I believe someday it can be as influential as Tang and Ming.
Then I may do not need to write these words in English, I can using Chinese ancient style prose :) For my ancient ~

This book is also about the emperors of the Ming Dynasty. The author used fictional language to tell us the story of Ming Dynasty. He digged into the events and tried to give us the deeper meaning and influence of those events in a objective way. I found this book really interesting because it doesn't only tell us the facts but also reveals the characters’s inner thoughts and the true motive behind one action. I think the book is very different from other historical books because the author’s logic was so inseparable and easy to understand. I also found this book more interesting than the others because the way the author expressed its opinion with humor. When I was reading the book, it feels like the author was talking to me. I think it really helps to attract the readers and make the content easier to understand. I’ll definitely continue the series with the third book.

A refreshing style of writing from the author, narrating history in the form of a novel, while adding associations to contemporary society to allow easier reading and "lower the barrier" for people who are keen on learning more history but afraid of reading dry texts or textbook/academic style writing that is so prevalent of many history books. A definite recommendation to readers who want to understand more about the Ming Dynasty of China.
