Snow Prince

Rate this book
A classical romance of an artist and his living statue.Or at least that's where it starts. But the statue in question is a snow sculpture, and must return to the Winterlands at the onset of spring, though he promises to return the next year.Lleu Welsh (the sculptor) is okay with this arrangement until one winter when Jack Frost's (the statue's) escapades outside the Winterlands are discovered and he is imprisoned. Jack escapes long enough to ask Lleu to save him--plunging the down-to-earth sculptor into a world made of snow, ice, and Christmas stories as he seeks to rescue his lover from the Snow Queen.

A.R. Jarvis was born in Madison, WI, where she then grew up. Despite several attempts to move away, she still lives there. Several of those attempts were to work at various Outdoor Education schools, which is about as crazy as it sounds. She also owns a pet rabbit, who is a spoiled princess and likes to chew on Important Electrical Cables. The rabbit is currently A.R. Jarvis' photo, since she can't seem to find any of herself.

Interesting hodge-podge of winter fairy tales.

Don’t try to connect names to the actual characters from different myths and fairy tales: nothing will make sense. I, surely, was disappointed. Especially with Morozko (Father Frost) having nothing to do with Jack Frost.

As it is, cute read. 2.5 stars

This short story could have been so much better had our author decided what to do with such a promising material.

It starts as an urban fantasy of sorts only to become a fairytale halfway through: thus it manages to be unsatisfying as both.
The gay twist in itself is pleasing but, as it is certainly not new, it is not enough to compensate.

There being no real deapth in characterization nor the language having the aesthetic value of the best fairytales this work rings a little shallow and unsatisfying, despite the happy end.

I am glad I got it as a freebie.

Though this is one of the shortest books I've ever read, it was one of the cutest. I definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a quick but satisfying read.

Though a quick read to begin with, I found myself compelled to plow through this in one sitting. A heartwarming (pun intended) fantasy-adventure-romance. I actually found myself thinking this would make for a great film - but that would be only if they made films where the male protagonist winds up on a quest to save his imprisoned male lover from the evil queen (I wish they did). Thoroughly enjoyable.

This is a wonderful "modern" fairy tale that ties together many holiday and winter stories, including The Little Match Girl, Frosty, Jack Frost, The Snow Queen, The Snow Baby and Santa and Mrs. Claus. It starts out with an artist, Lleu, who sculpts a beautiful work of art for the Winter Festival that he calls Jack Frost. Lleu promises Jack a hot chocolate if he wins the prize at the festival - which he does - and Jack comes to life to collect! Jack comes to live with Lleu every winter until one year the Snow Queen catches him and he can't come back, but he gives Jack a key and tells him to come rescue him on Christmas Eve. There are so many lovely and surprising twists and turns to the story, I just wanted to keep reading to find out what would happen next! I sure hope that there are more fun stories from A.R. Jarvis out there that I can read too, because this one was so enjoyable.
