A interesting little novel about the death of an Irish fishing village. Written by my Mother's cousin, Peadar O'Donnell, who was an important figure in Irish Republican circles and in the old IRA. Peadar wrote nine novels, some during his many years of incarceration in British prisons. He was editor of Bell's Magazine, a leading Irish literary/political magazine. The U.S. government banned Peadar's entry, likely thought he'd be raising gun money or perhaps because he was a communist. The ban was lifted in his later years.
Quasi existential story set in a rural Irish island community coming to terms with disaster, tragedy, the onset of modern society and the ways of the old.
Told with style and simplicity this tale is evocative.
