Thyme is the herb for courage, something Patrick has been lacking ever since he was publicly humiliated on a national cooking competition. For the past sixteen years, he's been content to be the personal assistant to celebrity chef Dix and love him in silence.
Between the end of Dix's long-running television show and accusations of fraud within Dix's charity, Dix's world is changing and Patrick doesn't know his place in it anymore. As secrets come to light, can Patrick find the courage to trust Dix as he once did, and to believe that he deserves it?
This is a follow-up short to Herbs de Provence, and much like it in tone. The characters are also the same, except that the MCs from last time are now secondary characters and the major secondaries from last time are now the MCs.
The plotting has problems in this one. Most obvious for me is the 16 year time gap. Supposedly the two MCs have been in love for 16 years, but even though they've been working side by side for that entire time neither one of them has noticed? I'm not buyin' it. Also, this one has a subplot thrown in, a small intrigue/mystery/fraud case, which was solved much too quickly and suddenly even though supposedly the FBI had been looking into it for some time. Not convincing.
So, ehhh on the plot. I do like Jones' writing voice, though, and I plan to check out one or two of her longer works. 3.4 stars, rounding down to 3.
