So, as a romance, I don't think this is a particularly good one because it's really all potential, though I like the potential a great deal. But I love the nitty gritty court and investigation stuff, whether or not it would hold up to any scrutiny for accuracy I cannot say.
So far this series (which features a different author for each book) have been just average. In this book Amanda Baron is defending her grandfather on charges of having murdered his wife when she attempted to leave him and their family. In my opinion the lawyer granddaughter who was defending him was a bit underwhelming in her characterization. Just my opinion.
Totally unrealistic and not worth the time invested in reading it. It is not about 2 people falling in love but 2 falling in Lust after meeting 3 weeks earlier and spending a total of 30 minutes in each others company but only in an adversarial relationship. Shall finish the series just to see who killed Margaret.
Good addition to the series. I've been reading this series in order and will be excited to finally get to the bottom of the mystery in the next book. As romances go, this one was a slow burn. Most of the story was about the trial of the patriarchal character. The romance couldn't really be acted upon until the end because the love interests were opposing lawyers in the trial.
Judson is on trial for murdering Margaret!! Judson ONLY wants Amanda as his counsel, but she really hasn't done criminal law before. Well, not of THIS magnitute. And she'll be up against Ethan Trask, one of the best and most ruthless DA's.
Will Amanda be able to get Judson off? Did he really kill Margaret? Can Ethan prove, beyond a reasonable doubt, that Judson was the killer??
I did not think that I would like this book, but once I started I could not stop. I just wished that the murder could have been solved. Now I have to look for the next.
Judson Ingalls is about to stand trial for the murder of his wife, Margaret, which happened over 40 years ago. His granddaughter, Amanda, will defend him. The state has appointed high-powered and nearly undefeated attorney Ethan Trask as prosecutor. But Ethan is not immune to the charms to either the town of Tyler or Amanda. Still, he does his best to convict Judson of murder. Amanda is distressed to find herself falling for the man who wants to put her grandfather in jail for the rest of his life. Personally, I find it really hard to believe these two are so preoccupied with each other in the midst of this very important piece of business. However, the extraordinarily well-written investigation and courtroom scenes make up for the unlikelihood of this pair.
This is one of the better of the Tyler romances... it is all about what doesn't happen more so than what does. In fact throughout the book the romantic leads only share 2 kisses, and nothing more. But there is a great deal of romantic tension, and drama surrounding the criminal trial the two leads are involved in, on opposing sides no less.
This book was in a bag I brought home from my Mom's. The Tyler Texas series. I liked the first couple that I read better than this one. The endings are very abrupt. Leads right in to the next book, but not much of a wrap up.
Only one more book to go after Judson is acquitted in the murder of his missing wife from 40 years previously. Even after he has been found not guilty, he doesn't want to find out what actually happened after he discovers she didn't leave him but was murdered.
