Loved the slow-paced life of the village of Littlecomb. Nice picnics and parties. Our heroine, Hester, is quite direct and fun and sensible. She has several suitors contending for her hand. One of them turns out to be a total creepster. One of them is almost too nice. One of them is absolutely hysterical and I don’t think I’ve ever come across one like him before. For the longest time I actually couldn’t tell which one would end up being the Hero. I thought I knew, but I just couldn’t detect enough sparks to be sure. Because I wasn’t convinced of his, or her, feelings, at about the 2/3 point I almost quit reading to skip to the end and find out who wins the girl.
All in all, it was a nice story with a nice ending. I just wish the author had made us like, and be sure of, the Hero just a bit more in the first half. I think I may have enjoyed Hester’s brother-in-law more than any of them!!
