Airmail to Amsterdam

Rate this book
Gripped by curiosity, a young girl in Israel breaks the barriers of a painful family feud to reach out to her estranged grandfather in Amsterdam. A sense of duty and compassion moves a wealthy philanthropist to champion his employee's cause when a medical charlatan threatens to imperil his ill son's life. But even as he founds an international organization, the voices from the past brought back in full force through his granddaughter's correspondence haunt Jerald Van Gelder. This well-written novel vividly portrays well-drawn characters, a riveting plot, and true emotion that captivates the reader's heart from start to finish.

Ah to me this book came a cross as very Jewish orientated.
I feel like as someone who isn't Jewish nor familiar with the religion or culture, it was hard for me to relate to and understand.
I found the majority of the story line to be monotonous and not that exciting.
It did kind of pick up closer to the end but then just finished abruptly almost as if I could keep paging to see if there was another chapter hidden somewhere.
I suppose it'd suffice as a children's book maybe, for kids who're involved in this religion.
Definitely not one of my favorite reads, but a good effort nonetheless.

Maybe this book would be better in the original Hebrew, but I found the translation to be somewhat cliche, and the storyline tenuous. Nonetheless. It's a good sit-down-and-read-in-one-session type of book.
