Wake Me When the Sun Goes Down

Rate this book
It was ironic that this happened to me; I was never a night person at heart. So you can see right off the bat why a vampire was the very last thing I would have chosen to be.

Anja Evans wakes up in the morgue with a hell of a hangover. It takes almost eating her best friend before she figures out... she's a vampire. When a dark and dangerous vampire shows up at her door asking to see her license and registration, Anja assumes Bishop is a regular cop. But breeding among vampires is strictly controlled, and her unlicensed status makes her an enemy of The Order. Struggling to find a balance between her former life and her undead one, Anja tries to blend school and living up to her new identity, all while searching to find the elusive Viking, whose blood gave Anja the strength of a vampire hundreds of years old.

There was a truckload of good recommendations and reviews to support this book. I have gotten over 50% and I can say with absolute certainly that this novel doesn't cater to my view of paranormal, supernatural or undead action romance. Why, you ask? Well I am more than delighted to explain... It pertains to our leading lady Anja... and how should I put this????Oh yes..
Translation: bitches be crazy. Omg dying XD

There are some females in this world that can simply be described with one word - embarrassing. I am talking about those types of women who deliberately won't take a hint when it comes to romance. Those types of women that ignore a plain desire from someone who openly wants them gone by pouting, making shit up and begging. Oh pretty please with a cherry on top can I stay? *Pout pout.* These types of women make me want to jump out of my skin and yell to the world that this is not what a woman is about, but obviously I am wrong because this fuckery is considered cute. This type of behaviour somehow, when it comes from a woman of course, means following your dreams and not giving up. It means strength and empowerment. It means that a woman can harass as much as she wants and she will be forgiven, because she has a vagina.

When I smell alcohol after a night of heavy drinking.

I am not making this shit up, that is the reasoning presented to the reader (that extends to real life) to justify when they hound a potential partner to the degree where it borders on pathological. This is a girl that has been asked to leave by a guy who is not even a sex partner, but she refuses to clear his apartment because of HER feelings. The man wants her out of his house and she stays because her pathetic ass needs reassuring. Later own for her own survival – she has been given an ID that lists his address on it. She beams at him like an idiot and asks – Do you want me to move in with you??? - Yes you fucking imbecile – that's precisely what that meant. If the tables were turned however, and we were following a male character in her stead, most of the reading populace would condemn such behaviour as stalkerific and creepy. You don't believe me? Well what else would you call a man that simply won't go away? After you told them repeatedly to go on and fuck off out of your life?... The thing is – woman or not – if you behave in a way where you are emotionally blackmailing someone you're not cute, you're an asshole.

jackass

Anja is an embodiment of everything that is wrongfully represented as an urban female in my opinion. She is shallow, she is vapid, she is nothing and a big fat nobody until a potential mate saunters in her existence and it's by the mighty and powerful influence of his dick that we get some kind (at this point we are desperate for anything, really) action and definition to her purpose on this earth, that we can add to this plot just not to make it completely boring(lol). I mean, she turned into a vampire, for fucks sake. Something she didn't even believe existed at all. She almost killed her BFF in the process of turning, but did any of those thoughts plague her? Did she try and grapple with her existence? Did she try and even get a true understanding of who she was before she set upon the unsuspecting populace? What I am aiming to demonstrate is that the author is trying to make us believe she is not an self-absorbed, limited dipshit who can't get past the possibility that she might get laid over the possibility that she might kill someone. Tried – and so colossally failed.

The writing was half good, and then half filled with such stupid logic it made me cringe. Examples – a man is listening to her sing at school - a man she never seen before... This comes after she has been changed to a bloodsucker, and she is missing a Sire – the man who made her, which only happened about 48 hours ago. So this guy is listening to her, and her friends think it's a choir scout (seems legit)
“How are you still single? You’re so great.” | 24 Things Single People Are Tired Of Hearing
and apparently he hears their convo from a mile away, and this dumbass can't link two and two together. It couldn't possibly be her Sire, as she looks around in all her stupidity for a MICROPHONE THAT HAS BEEN LEFT ON. Never mind that she had been droning about heightened senses since chapter one. She must have simply, conveniently forgot she is a mythical creature, she originally didn't even believe existed – I can see how that might happen.

I have gone past the hundred and thirty pages, past the 50% mark and I can attest that the plot has managed to deliver jack shit. -> Nothing, zip, zilch friggin nada, dust in the wind. The author managed to drag us around by our eyeballs while her MC was doing not much apart from telling us that she was desperate to get laid. In fact the last time i saw her she was getting "empowered", and taking her life in her own hands (this was in her own words) by providing the reader with the excruciating monologue five pages long about what she would wear (hint - dressing like a ho), when she gets her swag on and goes to a bar in witch she is not wanted, to hound a man who doesn't want her there, and all that for the sake of fuck you, that's why. She drags along her best friend (who has no idea where she is really going) and places her in a situation where she can get killed, all because she wants to flaunt her 'independence' in a guy's face. All i can say is, too bad she didn't stay dead in the morgue at the beginning. The undeadness was wasted on her. Apart from a potential dick there was really not much to her existence... I can't relate to someone like that. Her Sire is an ancient immortal and only because of him she is a powerful vampire in her new life. There is and was simply NOTHING of worth to attribute to this woman apart from what was given to her by someone else. Even her voice, that she studies at her college was not worth mentioning before she became something completely different. I don't like characters who seem to lack any distinctive traits but in fact are only defined trough someone else's eyes. All I can say is, naw thanx... not my kind of chick, not my kind of book, not my kind of scene. I like books in which a woman is defined by her character, not by the list of men who want to fuck her, but hey, to some that is sadly one and the same...

Wake Me When the Sun Goes Down (Forged Bloodlines #1) Wake Me When the Sun Goes Down by Lisa Olsen

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Wake Me When the Sun Goes Down (Forged Bloodlines #1) was one of the better things I read in the last few months, it had the confused but competent heroine who is learning her place in her new life, a cast of characters that become more 3-D as it progresses and a great plot. The fact that this book is not one of the top sellers in PNR/UF just shows that marketing is everything since this is much better than many of the better selling authors have put out in years. The story of Anja is compelling, filled with just enough details to give it that requisite "real" feeling and characters you can emotionally bond to as the story progresses. I have already moved on to the 2nd book in the series Meet Me When the Sun Goes Down (Forged Bloodlines #2) and the story gets better. Highly recommended.

Meet Anja Evans, a nerdy college student going to school studying voice. The story starts off with her waking up in the morgue.

Meet Bishop, vampire cop upholding the laws of the Order. He sees everything as black and white, his world is turned upside down when he tracks down Anja from the hospital asking for her license and registration.

An interesting world where vampires need legal papers or be chipped, without either of those the Order will prosecute and execute on site. Anja is a clumsy bumbling girl, definitely not your normal heroine and no way is she going to survive on her own. Through her eyes we learn what it's like to be a newbie and being adopted by Bishop to learn the ropes. Anja is a magnet for disasters to happen and the situations she gets into keeps the adventure rocking. Lots of characters and character building.

Not a big plot, unless you want to count who is Anja's sire? Anja is a lovable character, but how could you not love a girl who loves comics, video games and can quote lines from movies? A fun read.

A very nice UF dedicated to the Chicagoland fans. Imagine Merry without a guide and a house to take her in. My lower rating is linked to my dislike of stories divided into chunks (aka books).

Nothing is resolved here, and the lack of an actual plot didn't help. (Or at least of a plot with more meat in it than "oh I am a vamp. What shall I do next?)

Giving up halfway through. The characters are "meh" and the story is lacking in plot. She gets turned into a vampire, for some reason just accepts that, and bumbles around town for the first half of the book. Don't really care what happens....

It all started when she woke up with a sheet over her face, dressed in Norse clothing and no memory of how any of it happened.
Arguh, just her waking up in the morgue had me chewing the old finger nails. Holy craptastic nightmares. That was all my slam in the face welcome to the book first chapter. The book did not stop there, it lightened up a bit. Anja, our poor lost MC is having a hard time dealing with the how and whys she was thought to be dead. She doesn't remember a thing. She's feeling a bit weirded out and finds she just doesn't feel right.
*Ding dong*, her life is shattered into a new reality when Bishop a hot super duper vamp police shows up and wants her papers. What ? She has no idea what he's talking about. He is cold,(but still hot) uninterested in her lies about not knowing who her sire is. Yet he gets slowly sucked into her drama when her roommate and BFF has an accident that almost gets her killed. Bishop regrettably steps up to help this child vampire find her sire and either be put to the final rest or move on. He is our unhealthily distant hot vampire to dream about here. The man has some skills, action skills silly. he's old, well seasoned and has a thick head.
She continues to fumble and against his wishes she fumbles into him more and more often. They batter, nip and oh yeah rub against each other and yet he always pulls away. It is a tease lovers dream. Meanwhile they are trying to hide her out till they know something that may save her. She does not do the hiding thing well and it's get pretty funny at times. Several someones show up and threaten to take her over and then it gets even more interesting.

I really like how the author set this book up. i had fun reading it. I thought the MC was annoying sure but that's who she was. Bishop was a true Alpha male, distant, powerful, with many secrets including a big heart hidden under all those weapons. I can't wait to get my hands on the next book in the series.
Just when I was finally getting what I had hoped for since chapter 1 it ended. Yes, ladies and gentlemen a cliffhanger.

A cute, mostly forgettable PNR. Being a self-published book (the copy I read, anyway), it was surprisingly more polished than I expected, though the author did seem to have a fetish for ellipses. Those three little dots were everywhere! To the point where they began to lose all meaning. There's very little plot beyond the "I'm a vampire! Oh no, now what do I do?" variety, with the obligatory stand-offish alpha male who the heroine desires and who clearly wants to be with the heroine, but remains stoically stand-offish due to Deep Dark Secrets, which apparently will be revealed in the next book. Which I rather hate. I don't like it when a single story is strung out over multiple books. That's okay for a subplot, but not for the main, driving plot, even a light and fluffy plot such as this one. There's some mystery regarding who made Anja (that's with the 'j' said like a 'y', so ya know) a vampire, but, again, nothing is resolved. I highly doubt I'll read the second (and probable third) book because it was a total fluke that my library even had this one. And, while Wake Me was cute, it just didn't hook me enough to want to find out how everything ends up.

That said, despite the flaws, Olsen has an engaging voice and while the modern references will horribly date the book a decade from now, those references are authentic and not just as a result of an author trying to sound knowledgeable and coming off like a complete idiot. Olsen has managed to create a roster of characters that are funny, engaging, and realistic, populating an often humorous and entertaining story. Wake Me is not the worst self-published book I've ever read and while it may not be the absolute best, it's certainly up there as one of the better quality of self-pubs. A nice little gem that I ran across by pure accident and am glad I gave it a chance.

I like vampires... when they're done well, and too many of the ones out there aren't, especially when it comes to romance. This book was an exception, I love the reluctant vampire Anja and her relationship with the vampire cop Bishop. Her spunky roommate Bridget helped make this a fun read, and I really liked the idea of the organization that enforces the vampire laws. Now I want to see what happens next!

Loved it, quick paced and action pact, this was a great beginning to a series I'll most definitely be continuing. I like the world she set up and we actually just got a small peek of it. I thought author set this up brilliantly to continue.

I stayed up practically all night reading this... there were other contributing factors to my being up so late but this book got me through it.

Song Choice: Partially because this my newest obsession but also because it works - "All I Wanted" Kodaline, "One and Only" by Adele

First thoughts: This was really, the first in a series. What do I mean by that? I mean don't go into this thinking that there will be big issue problems solved, this is the beginning to what i am going to guess is a very big adventure - and no i am not trying to sound all peter pan on your asses, its just how it be. So this was a lot of world building, and character relationships I didn't mind it though, well I was waiting for a certain someone to show up and yeah....

Thoughts on Plot: Now as a seasoned paranormal reader, I just ... not necessarily avoid vampires but I don't tend to gravitate toward them either. I was pleasantly surprised with these vampires, they were true to the idea of vampires feeding off of humans, sleeping during the day, but they could go out in sunlight just hurt, and other stuff, but there were new aspects to Lisa Olsen's vampires that I quite enjoyed as well. I am interested in seeing where the series will take us, but in this book it was a lot of like i said world building. We had to understand these new vampires and their system. The book started off running which if you know me at all you know that i LOVE that. There was a lot of mystery to this book and when I thought i had it pretty well figured out, I was wrong... damn hahaha. There were a lot of back and forth between the relationship of Anja and Bishop. I found their relationship sort of .... O.O i am going to be bitch for a moment, exhausting. This was A HUGE HUGE HUGE aspect of this book and Anja learning what it was to be a vampire. It was a story about her realizing how much her humanity she would have to give up, because of someone else's decision. So lets move on to characters.

Characters:

Anja: She was a little strange, I mean we don't get her before vampirism and while i don't think it would have magically altered her into a new person, i think it did really change her on some levels as well, she mentions how she normally isn't so forceful or aggressive, but i mean we don't ever see her not really being that way either, which isn't to say its a bad thing, she was just telling us a lot about who she once was. I liked that she was a strong character though, there were times yes i will admit this she annoyed me, i was more or less annoyed with the way she was trying to get Bishop's attention. But for the most part i really liked her, I didn't have much of an issue with her at all <3 She was an interesting character, very strong considering all the shit she had to go through

Bishop: HE was my biggest "issue" crazy i know, usually i am all like bad girl MC, good MC boy, gooood, *pets creepily* sorry not this time! What the hell? Okay so this might a bit spoiler-ish section so before i get to that, he was just stubborn, all about the job, too aloof for me, I mean we get a bit about his past and i can see where he was hurt, and hurt back but this guy has to be over 400 years old I am pretty sure... anyway so moving on. this is going to get sort of spoiler-ish? but not too bad. So Anja is turned her sire is missing and she only has Bishop to turn to, literally, so what does he do? Nothing. Well that isn't true, he PUSHES HER away, ALL OF THE TIME, like all of the time! I was like O.O you don't even need to be all lovey with her but i mean she just had her entire world turned upside down and you didn't even say, hey this is how you get some nom noms? Ugh... I am sure he will get better, because at the end...holy hot kisses. but okay sorry i had to get that off my chest.

In the end i thought this was a very entertaining read and I am eager to get on with the next book - cliffies are nice people, cliffies are not NICE!!!

I thought this book was so-so.

So many paranormal books have been put out lately that its becoming pretty hard to have an original idea, and that was mostly what's wrong with this book. I read a lot, and I've read this plot several times before.

Anja is sort of likeable, in that she's not completely weak as a character. She has her own mind, and she isn't going to let anyone tell her what she can and can't do. My problem with her, is that she can't really accomplish anything without Bishop, and he of course, spends the whole freaking entire book helping her while simultaneously telling her he's not going to help her anymore, he doesnt care about her, and she's on her own. Its also obvious why he has a problem with her- its painfully clear that the author is setting him up to have a big reveal in the next book about how much she reminds him of her maker. It gets boring and predictable towards the middle of the book, how neither of them progress- she is not really able to be a vampire without him, and he is going to continue to be a stalker in denial. No growth.
There isn't a whole lot of plot, otherwise. Sure, they're trying to find her maker- but no detective work is done, and he pretty much just waltzes up in the last few pages. Its very anti-climactic. And at that point, who really cares anyway? so he's one of the elite vampires who have no rules,um, ok. That's not explained very well and it comes off as unfinished rather than intriguing. We haven't met any of these elite vampires and Bishop doesn't bother explaining. If I were Anja I'd just say fuck it, and write the whole thing off.
Of course they kiss and make up in the end, but what actually was the plot? What actually happened in the book? Not much. I won't be reading more of these.

This is my first Lisa Olsen book but it will not be my last.
Anja starts out in the morgue, turned into a vampire, and unsure how any of this happened, only to have a crazy cop (Bishop) showing up at her door asking for her license. Apparently it is against the law it is against the law to create new vampire without a license, and her sire is missing.
Bishop takes on the role of reluctant mentor, and helps to show Anja the rules and ropes of being a vampire. He helps her assume an identity that others will believe, and teaches her how to control her new power. So many people take an interest in the new vamp come to town, including the rich and powerful Aleksander. However, the real mystery is, Who is her sire and why has he not claimed her?
This was a light, fun read that kept me hooked, I enjoyed every chapter, never got bored from overly descriptive parts because there were none, and I enjoyed the chemistry between Anja and Bishop and cannot wait to pick up the next book.

This is a terrific tale of innocence lost.

Imagine waking up in the morgue not having any idea where you are or what happened. That's what happens to Anja Evans, a college music student. She soon learns there is a whole different side to the world when she finds she's been turned into a vampire. Her Maker abandons her and she is left with only one person to help her figure out how to survive. Bishop works for the Order, an organization that polices vampires, and finds Anja totally clueless about what happened or how to survive on her own. He doesn't want to get involved but just can't resist Anja's innocence. He helps her learn to take care of herself and tries to find her Maker and figure out why this happened. All thumbs up! I will be reading the rest of this series as soon as I can.

What was that?

This book was included in a spicy paranormal box set and I was enjoying the story well enough, until it just ended at a weird spot. Huh? Apparently this series will go on forever. There are eleven books in the series already and at least one more on the way. So I took a sneak peek at the blurbs and I've decided I'm going to stop now while Anja and Bishop are together. What I loved most about this story was Bishop - not Anja - and it looks like Bishop will be out of the picture for quite a few of the future books.

No, thanks!

Not for me, sorry.

The intro on this book looked promising and the start was interesting, but further it was just a plain boring and annoying storyline. What's the plot?
The main character Anja is whiney and not very smart and not able to make decisions. She runs all the time to Bishop for help, as well takes not a NO for an answer. Has no job, get supported by her parents. There are no useful conversation, alone the speech she having with her BFF Bridget, who suppose to be helpful is so unfriendly without compassion, Anja told her she died and woke up in the morgue and that's what Bridget said “No shit! When did that happen? Are you gonna sue the hospital? Oh, if you do, name that dickwad Simpson, I hate that guy.” Hello? I didn't think I would like this answer from my BFF after I died.
This book is not paranormal enough for me, there is not really a development in the case that Bishop look for her sire, instead he is stalking her.

The only fun character is Mason, I liked his speech and answers. He is truly behaving like a Vampire.
The other things I missed is a very good descriptions of the characters, the information is just to plain that I had problems to get a good connection, as it should be a romance. No seduction to make it more interesting how hard it is for the main characters, Anja and Bishop.
Sorry for not so good review.

Ummmm

It was ok I guess. I found myself rolling my eyes at the main characters a lot. She is really whiney and kinda useless. It's one of those books where the whole time you hoping it gets better... but it really doesn't. ☹

You know you’ve had one hell of a night when you wake up on a cold slab inside a morgue. Anja Evans doesn’t realize what’s going on, until she tries to eat her roommate. Anja is a vampire and has no recollection on how she became one. Breeding among vampire is strictly controlled, so it’s no surprise that Bishop shows up at Anja’s door requesting to see her license and registration. Anja’s unlicensed status automatically makes her an enemy of The Order. Anja struggles balancing her old college life with her new undead one. Anja is deicaded to tracking down the Viking vampire who turned her and gave her the strength of a vampire several centuries older than her.

This book is magnificent!!! I fell in love with it before I even finished the first chapter. The story catches your attention right off the bat and prevents you from being able to put the book down. Lisa Olsen did an incredible job at developing her characters for this book. The main character Anja (An-ya), is completely relatable. She is like the typical girl next door that almost every girl can connect with one way or another. I love how she isn’t this character who has a crazy workout route and spars with swords on her time off. She is a typical bookworm, she prefers reading books in comfy pjs instead of going out every night drinking and partying. I connected a lot with this character because we are almost 100% the same, I even have glasses like she used to have before she turned. I also love how she slowly started growing a stronger backbone after she started embracing her vampirism.

Now, time for me to stop going off about how much I love Anja. This book has a lot of amazing qualities to it that makes it so magnificent. The writing was well done and there were little to no grammatical errors. It was not sloppy by any means and the story progress at the perfect rate, it wasn’t too fast or too slow. The book also provided us with a heroine who remained upbeat no matter what was happening. I loved this, I also loved how Lisa Olsen gifted us with a heroine who wasn’t whiny. Nothing worse than a whiny heroine. Lastly, the book actually showed us Anja and Bishop’s relationship grow and develop. They didn’t fall madly in love with each other within a couple seconds of meeting each other and were automatically a couple. I prefer watching a couple grow, I’m not a big fan of the whole love at first sight thing.

I love Lisa Olsen’s take on vampires and how the book is more realistic than most. I love it so much because all of the characters are relatable and can be found in real-life. I truly can’t wait to get my hands on the other books to this series. I recommend this book for all of my fellow bookworms out there who want a main kick ass female character to fall in love with. Go get this book! Trust me, you will not be disappointed.

I have a complicated relationship with Anja, which accounts for the three stars (Update: changed to 4 stars now that I've gotten deeper into the series and had time to reflect). While I enjoy yelling at her to make better choices, I do wish she would actually listen to a few of them on occasion. Her character is very driven by her emotions, and comes across as a temperamental little sister rather than a grown vampire making her way in her new undead world.

However, I also enjoy how fresh-faced Anja is in this sinister underworld. Bishop, meanwhile, is on my list. THAT list. The one that makes me want to press the gas pedal if I see him cross the road. I am now in book two and he has exposed some redeemable qualities. Readers who appreciate a damaged alpha may welcome him with open arms. I put up with him, waiting to catch more glimpses of Anja's maker. I am curious to see if Bishop wins me over.

Overall, it is a slower paced read for those who like to relish the moments of change, to really get to know the characters. As I said, I am in book two now and plan to keep going so long as Anja and I don't fall out before then.

I was looking for something new to read when this book was recommended for me. I had never heard of the author but the book sounded interesting. It was was. I enjoyed the book.
Anja is a bit of a nerd, she is just trying to get through college when she finds herself waking up in the morgue. She has no memory of what has happened to her or how she ended up reportedly dead from having her throat ripped open. She is wearing strange clothes covered in her own blood. Once she is back home things just seem to get weirder. When a man shows up at her door demanding her license and registration papers Anja assumes he's a detective looking into what happened to her. Bishop is a detective of sorts. He works for the Order, they oversee the vampire population. He has a hard time believing that Anja does not know who her sire is or what she has become. Because siring a vampire is strictly monitored, her sire has to come forward and claim her or she will be put down. But Bishop sees something in her, something he does not want to see. She looks a lot like someone he once cared a great deal for. The last thing he wants is to be attracted to her. But he doesn't want to have to kill her either. So he does something very un-Bishop like. He breaks the rules and helps her get a new ID and offers to help her learn to be a vampire. All the while pushing her away emotionally.
When Bishop runs a test on Anjas blood, it shows the blood of a much older vampire. She is also much faster and stronger than a newly turned vampire. Which leads him to the conclusion that she was turned by a very old and powerful vampire. Along with the clothes and jewelry she was wearing the night she was turned, he has an idea her sire is an "Ellri". An old word for Elder, a natural born vampire, one of the vampires who created the vampire species. If this is the case, there is not much Bishop can do to help Anja. Ellri are exempt from vampire laws.
This was a fun, quick read I liked the characters. We were left with a small cliff hanger, I look forward to the next book to see what happens.

I was THRILLED to find out that I'd won a copy of this book in a book giveaway. I was even more thrilled when I started reading. From Anja's waking in a morgue wearing a strange "costume" covered in blood to her shaky steps toward her normal life as a college student studying voice, to her gradual awakening to the idea that, just maybe, she'd had more than a "near death" experience--I found myself anxious to find out what would happen next. We've got a wacky roommate, a two-timing ex boyfriend, a struggling college student who's been a rule follower and people pleaser her whole life. Add to that a mysterious (and poignant) transformation, mysterious strangers--some sexy, some scary, some sexy AND scary and you've got a recipe for a great new series.

It was only after I'd reluctantly finished the book (reluctantly because I wanted it to continue!) that I realized that there were some similarities in plot to the Undead series by MaryJanice Davidson, where shopaholic shoe diva Betsy is killed by an SUV and wakes up dead (so to speak) to find that the heretofore unknown (to her) vampire community thinks she is their prophesied Queen. That said, the characters in these series are, forgive me, night and day different. Anja is about as innocent and naive and just plain nice as they come. She's likeable and, well, somehow real. Don't get me wrong--I love the Undead series--laughing my way through Betsy's almost slapstick intro to the world of the supernatural--but I don't really relate to her. Anja? She's funny and ditzy too, but for some reason, she just seems more real.

I look forward to the next installment in this new series---and hope fervently that it picks up where Book 1 leaves off. Dang it, I want to know what happens next! Does Anja stay in school? Can her sire claim her? Will Bishop open up? Will Anja's sister end up dating Mason? Will the roommate accidentally let something slip? And what is Rob?

What was the plot? I'm still trying to figure that out. Read my progress.

One, this wasn't the dark read I was promised when I got it for free. Still think I paid too much for it.

Secondly, for a nerd, she is the most dumb ass character ever. Every turn she makes is a self absorbed whiney, clingy, and selfish stalker girl who can't make a single smart decision. She learns to compel humans to give her what she wants, anything she wants, but then the next chapter she resigns to splurge on cab fare.

Third, there is ZERO sexual appeal to this couple. Except for an intense and unintentional kiss. They actually only kiss twice in the whole 260+ pages of filer and drivel. Nothing propels this story on. You are left with answers that NEVER get answers to the entire book.

What was the point? All through this entire book you are TOLD and never SHOWN anything.

Fourth, this book is in first person narrative. So you get the entire inner dialog and none of the accompanied action.

Then there was the content itself. What irritated me more than anything was that every time someone took a drink from their preferred alcoholic beverage, they always had to raise their glass and salute. Like, "Here, here. Here's to that buddy." Except they did every time someone took a drink. I won't even start on the immature age of our h. She used words like Frak instead of fuck. And Cool Beans after stating something of negativity. What was that all about? She's 23 for fuck sake!!!

What started out as interesting turned into a book that had a beginning but nothing in the middle or an ending. This was a complete waste of my time and sanity. All if this may have been avoided had there actually been an editor. Otherwise, I wouldn't have noticed so many spaces that were between a period and the beginning word of the next sentence.

Do not recommend this book or series To ANYONE...

I am still contemplating my feelings over"Wake Me When the Sun Goes Down" because on one hand I enjoyed the read immensely, yet on the other hand I'm not really invested in the characters.

Tanya can't move. She is also uncomfortable where she us lying down but when she begins hearing voice calling her Jane Doe 6 and that the coroner wants her body, she panics and runs out the morgue before the police arrive. Tanya locates her roommate who works the graveyard shift in th he hospital in which she was taken. Her roommate takes her home and she tries not to think about the trauma she has just experience.

Soon, there is a knock on the door and there is a "fine" man on the other side who calls himself, Bishop. Tanya thinks he is a cop when he asks for her I.d. and papers by in fact he works for an organization that monitors the activities of vampires in San Francisco. When he discovers she has no papers he wants to place her in a holding tank until he investigates her origins.

When Bishop tests Anya's blood, he is convinced she was created by an "Ellri" or elder vampire that is exempt from the law. Additionally, Bishop fights his growing attraction to Anya while she struggles to adjust to her new undead existence.

This story line is unique and has serious potential but I struggled throughout the book with the overly apologetic character of Anya. Additionally, Anya is whiny. She has incredible physical strength but she us far from a strong kickass Hermione I like in my novels.
Also, Bishop 's character doesn't do much to make him endearing as a strong male lead. Quite frankly, I wanted to kick him in the shins more than a couple of time and yell at Anya to forget him all together.

Oh well, I will have to read book two in order to determine if I am going to continue on with the series.

I liked the premise of the story and enjoyed getting to know Anja.
The beginning started out rather slow for me. I had already figured out Anja's plight within the first few paragraphs. Once it warmed up and got going, I enjoyed following along while she learned how to deal with her new life as a vampire without a Sire.

There were a few funny parts that had me smiling. I connected with Anja and understood how she could fall in love so quickly. Yet I found I was rather irritated at how Bishop played with her emotions until literally the very end, I wanted to kick him instead of feel sorry for him for being hurt in the past. Anja had been hurt too...

I would rather Mason have volunteered to make Bishop jealous than her going with the Russian. Just saying. There were a lot of subplots that were touched upon, but never explained.

Overall, I felt that nothing was resolved for Anja other than her knowing she loved him, and Bishop waiting until the very end to kiss her willingly. Finding her Sire and the interaction was too brief and could have been explored a little more. The story felt rushed to get that final kiss. I was a little let down at the sudden ending. HOWEVER, I would read the next story if I knew that it would answer the questions that were left hanging in this one. The writing is very descriptive, Lisa did a good job allowing me to visualize the surroundings and what was happening.
