Now, together in one place for the first time, Quick Bites combines Jennifer Rardin's short stories into a wild ride of vampires, zombies, and voodoo that is impossible to put down. This omnibus edition includes the stories - "Scouting Jasmine," - "The Golem Hunt," - "An Evening For Jaz and Vayl," - "Paul and Brady Get Hoodoo with the Voodoo," and - "Zombie Jamboree."
I’ve spent all my life in the Midwest, which has certainly shaped my perspective on all kinds of issues, from the question of whether or not we really have an accent, to the many and varied uses of corn.
I was born in Evansville, Indiana on April 28, 1965. Mom tells me almost every year what crappy weather it was that day. However I like to think of my birthday as the first frost-free date for my planting area. See what happens when you grow up around farmers? Scary, huh?
After a youth spent up to my eyeballs in fairy tales, nordic myths and supernatural legends I made the solid and practical decision to go to college and major in English. After which I never really held a well paying job until this gig came along! Which is why my kids love to sing that song to me from the musical “Avenue Q.” The one that begins with the line, “What do you do with a B.A. in English?”
Once I figured out the answer to that question, I wrote Once Bitten, Twice Shy. Now my laptop is my constant companion. We reside in an old farmhouse along with my husband and our two teenagers. No pets since the cat died last winter, but the birds seem to appreciate his absence. They come to feast at the feeders while I write on the back porch in the cool of the morning. Lovely.
Quick Bites is a collection of short stories, 3 about Jaz Parks and 2 other random ones related to zombies. I really liked the Jaz and Vayl stories, especially the first one, Scouting Jasmine in which Vayl watches Jaz from afar while she races around town killing a head vampire and his cronies. It shows just how reckless and determined a character she is.
The 2 zombies shorts were ok, not great, although I did find Voodoo Vicky quite amusing. For a quick little read, these were entertaining, but didn't really fit with the stories about Jaz and Vayl.
Overall, not a bad little book for a light hearted, quick read.
I LOVED seeing these little fillers of Jaz and Vayle, and the two short stories that were still kind of in the world but not about Jaz. I had been wondering and wondering how Vayle picked Jaz, and now I know!! PLUS, after just finishing book four, getting to read the short story that takes place right after it, but before book five was a special treat that I absolutely LOVED!!!! Jaz and Vayle are wonderful together and I can't wait to read more!!
Quick Bites is an assorted of short stories by Jennifer Rardin. I've read most of the stories before, but I really enjoyed the first one, Scouting Jasmine. It reminded me of good ol' reckless Jaz. If you've read the Jaz Parks series than you'll enjoy these short stories.
Not all Jazz stories, but all good. Note to self though, don't read the last zombie one, just after Dracula, and just before going to sleep - not good dreams :P
