Matthew Ryan’s world is shattered when his wife, Emily, suddenly announces that she is leaving him for another man, taking their daughter, Sarah, with her.
Several years later, Matthew decides to rebuild his life with the beautiful and accomplished Laura, and they embark on a romance made in heaven until it becomes evident that someone is planning to kill Laura, turning their idyllic relationship into a life of daily dread.
There are many suspects, and Matthew and Laura know that one moment of carelessness could prove fatal, maybe for both of them.
'Obsession' is an intense psychological thriller that twists and turns alarmingly as the menacing story unfolds, leading inevitably to its violent conclusion.
I almost gave this book two stars for the ending alone which is very open-ended. I wanted closure! In my opinion, Matthew has the worst taste in women ever. Anyway, the book started off rather intriguing with an attempted suicide. The back story of the end of Matthew's first marriage was interesting, if not suspicious (the wife that is.) The book dragged a little in place when the story was a jumble of present and past. Laura was an enigma after her "incident." It definitely kept me in suspense, but I would have liked a more solid ending. (book with one word title for 2015 reading challenge)
This novel was good, although it was very predicable. The tension builds slowly, and the ending, although violent, was able to be seen from the beginning. An enjoyable psychological thriller, though.
