Die Neo-Serie wird von Heft zu Heft besser. Mir ist der Eintritt der Ferronen aus der Erstausgabe aus den 60er Jahren noch gut in Erinnerung. Die Geschichte wiederholt sich in Neo, aber ist im Detail dann doch wieder anders. Sehr unterhaltsam.

Es geschieht viel in dieser Ecke der Milchstraße. Kaum ist ein kleines Häuflein Menschen um Perry Rhodan mit dem ersten "terranischen" Raumschiff Good Hope in nahe Planetensystem um die Riesensonne Wega aufgebrochen, um einen rätselhaften Hilferuf zu überprüfen, geraten sie in einen interstellaren Konflikt zwischen den Ferronen, den Einwohnern des Wega-Sytems und den Topsidern, den Invasoren. Die Erde bekommt Besuch von den fremdartigen Fantan, interstellaren Sammlern. Terrania mit seiner interstellaren und PSI-Expertise ist gefragt. Der Roman endet mit einem doppelten Cliffhanger.
Es geschieht viel aufeinmal und es wird nichteinmal angedeutet warum, was wenig befriedigend ist. Dabei gibt es genug Rätsel und angedeutete kosmische Zusammenhänge. Rico, dieses Kunstwesen, Roboter ist eine ungenügende Beschreibung, ist ein Produkt einer unbekannten Zivilisation. Er ist sich selbst ein Rätsel, was hat er mit allem zu tun. Warum siehen die Ferronen in den Terranern die "Lichtbringer"?
Die Arkoniden sind nicht allwissend, sie kennen von den Fantan nur den Namen, wissen aber nichts von Topsidern und Ferronen. Hat das alles mit den Planeten des ewigen Lebens zu tun?
Es ist reizvoll und spannend, wie unterschiedliche Spezies und Wesenheiten auf unterschiedlichen Kultur- und Technologiestufen aufeinander treffen. Wie Fremdheit sich überwinden lässt. Das macht für mich den Reiz von PR-Neo aus. Dass mehrer Ebenen in einem Roman auftreten können. So bin ich gespannt auf den nächsten Roman.

As the story slowly goes over to the Wega-Arc we see three storylines unfold parallel to one another... First the rescue/reconnaisance mission of Perry and Thora with the GOOD HOPE in the Wega-System (while it was not without suspense, the space battles in the old version IMO were far more addicting and electrifying. Maybe that's one important distinction between both incarnations: the new generation is superior in characterisation and story construction, but they suck at the core elements of every space opera: magnificent technology and epic battles. While i LOVE Neo i don't know (yet) what it'd favor when put to the test)
Secondly we watch as the Fantan people land on earth and start a tour of pillaging and kidnapping to gain "Besun", including incarcerating a group around Reginald Bull that wants to negotiate with this newly found aliens...
Thirdly RICO is up and on the run again as his internal repair mechanism has done wonders and is able to restore him to a state where he can move under humans again without them noticing anything off.

NEO still flourishes through the differences they've built into the story to distinct them from their original sources. The characters are throughout the bench more interesting, more believable and more dimensional than many of the original portraials (once again one of my favorite examples would be Julian Tifflor who up till the modern times always stayed kind of a cartoonish flat "person" in the original series but has already gotten a true background and much personal flavor in the few appearances he has made this time in the roads of Terrania!) and the authors don't shy off when they have to make real efforts to built obstacles in front of our heroes so they don't march through the quest without breaking into sweat. It's just now and then that they maybe overcompensate and make them sweat a little bit too much for my comfort. But then... as long as it stays varied and interesting NEO can't do much wrong in the sense of becoming overzealous.

Without spoiling too much (should be self-evident by the title of this issue anyway), we get the first real space adventure. This issue is the most enjoyable one in the first 10 issues.

Bully encounters and handles the Fantan people on Earth. A second story part is about Rico self-repairing in the desert of Gobi and discovering his pressing need to go visit the sea. He seems to need to do this for himself and "him" (hints of Atlan here?)

Meanwhile Perry is away in Space, visiting Wega, encountering the Ferrons and Topsiders. And maybe, just maybe, Perry gets a few hints of puzzles to solve, with a message coming from a Topsid space ship advising him not to kill unnecessarily. Somehow someone seems to evaluate Perry :-)

On Earth, meanwhile, panic and fear reign. Strange aliens invade the planet. They have only one objective: plunder. Reginald Bull, Rhodan's friend, faces danger and falls into an ambush.

Aufgrund der vielen Handlungsstränge wirkt der Roman mal wieder sehr unfokussiert. Ich hätte lieber (dem Titel entsprechend) mehr Zeit im Wega-System verbracht, statt parallel noch die Ankunft der Fantan-Leute auf der Erde dazuzupacken.

Allerdings waren die Fantan das Highlight des ganzen. In der Originalserie sehr eigenschaftlos geblieben, erhalten sie hier eine interessante, angemessen fremdartige Kultur.

Ricos Reise wirkt in großen Teilen wie eine Wiederholung von Mercants Odyssey in PR-NEO 2. Und das war ja auch ein Montillon-Roman 🤔...
