Kings and Kingdoms #1

Fathers and Sons

Rate this book
Kingdoms rise and fall, boys become men, and men become fathers…but the intrigues of love and leadership never change…

My name is Peter Gravlock, and three years after being crowned king, on the day of our son’s birth, my husband, Magnus, has stepped down as ruler of the Wolf River Kingdom. We all should have seen this coming. My other husband, Neil, and I knew that Magnus would hand over the crown eventually, but none of us could have imagined Magnus’s timing would have ended up being as bad as it has turned out to be.

Because Magnus isn’t the only king that has just lost his throne. In fact, after only three years of peace and prosperity, the frontier already stands on the brink of war as new leaders rise to power and alliances are called into question. But which of the new kingdoms are our friends and which are our enemies?

We’ll soon find out as the leaders of every nation in the frontier come together in New Hope to celebrate the coronation of our new king. But will every leader and every kingdom make it out in one piece or will some of us lose the things we love the most to treachery?

Fathers and Sons is the first book in a new series, Kings and Kingdoms. It follows the Peter and the Wolvesand Sons of the Cities series. All books in these three series should be read in order, beginning with Peter and the Wolves.

This book was rather upsetting. I felt like everything was headed to disaster from the start. And the most innocent characters paid the price. And I see that we have to read 2 more books before we find out what happens to the pups. I might need to take a break from this for now for my mental health.

I love being back in one of my favorite worlds, surrounded by so many amazing characters. Farmer does an excellent job here of showing that just because some adventures and relationships are "done," doesn't mean everything will now remain stagnant. The world itself is in as much upheaval as Peter, Neil and Magnus potentially face in their marriage. I can't wait to see what happens next as Farmer continues to develop this fascinating world.

I love how each series picks up where the others left off. This book did not disappoint. We get to see more vulnerable sides to Magnus as well as others. We get to form new opinions of characters we saw in a different light.
Fight as he may to create a peaceful and prosperous kingdom, Magnus's world is changing and even more challenging... either by other leaders or his own husband's. Hopefully the next book will leave us hoping.

I’m growing tired of Peter’s narrating voice. Things are a lot less exciting and revelatory and more anxious. That is just the way the story is going. I suppose. But I miss those early books. As I read on.

Peter is back!!!

This book is set three years after Magnus takes the throne as king of Wolf River, and everything is changing. The triumvirate have become fathers, Magnus is ready to give up the crown, and there’s new strife on the frontier. When Sai arrives with some devastating news, all the men know things will never be the same.
The boys have become men, and Peter isn’t sure that he’s ready for them to change. He struggles with being a father, with Magnus making private decisions, and his own desires to assert himself. Their changing relationship has Peter out of sorts and very afraid for their future.
Merry also touched on subject matter that is very relevant today. Though some people are making progress with accepting the wolves, some can’t get past their own prejudice. The women of the frontier are also facing challenges with their rights and equality.
I’m so happy to be back in this world and see what happens next!
