Nate Stone just finished his undercover case without getting shot. While heading home to unwind, he sees a speeding car with a panicked woman behind the wheel. He unfortunately has to watch as the car goes off the side of the road and roll down an embankment. He immediately calls 911 for help and runs to help the woman behind the wheel. She is unconscious but her injuries speak of more than just a car accident. While waiting for help he is shot at and now more questions rise about what is going on with this mysterious woman.
After being submitted to the hospital, the woman becomes conscious but has no idea what is going on. While being examined by the doctor, it is discovered that she has amnesia and doesn't even remember her name. She see the cop who helped her and he gives her the name Rose until they can figure out who she is and why she is in danger. Nate wants to help her not just because of the danger but because of the attraction while Rose too feels it but they will have to uncover who Rose is and why is someone after her.
This was a surprising hit for me. I enjoyed finding out what was going on. I love a good damsel in distress book but it also helped that Rose was strong, sweet, and not TSTL. I loved the hero and how he was all about the heroine. For my safety friends
This little freebie was an enjoyable and surprising quick read, that allowed the time to fly by as I took a 2-hour train trip early in the morning.
Nate Stone has just finished an undercover mission unscathed, when he finds himself rescuing a woman from a car that’s about to explode, as someone shoots at them, and so instead of taking some R&R he finds himself protecting Rose from a killer who is determined to get to her. But Rose (named by Nate), wakes up in hospital with amnesia, feeling safe only in the presence of Noah, which helps the person who wants her permanently gone. The two find themselves undeniably attracted to one another, but with Rose’s memory gone, a killer who won’t quit it’s going to be a battle for them to gain a chance to explore a relationship.
This was just what I needed on a morning when the cobwebs took a little longer than usual to lift off my mind (why am I taking a break from coffee - insanity).
This book is light, things do happen rather quickly and it’s not a book that has depth in emotion or character development, but it’s a nice read (and possibly re-read on a beach somewhere).
Started out great but lost something for me as it went on. Started to be all about the lust, then all about what they ate, drank, and did ... to the point I got a bit bored. It picked up again and was pretty good. I do wish the author had gone with a bit less violence against the women in the 2nd half.
I thought Nate was a good hero and liked Rose/Cassandra but was irritated that Rose was still used all the time even after her real name was discovered. Also annoying was the fact that this couple could not have a 30 second conversation without stopping to punctuate each sentence with a kiss. Romantic...yes, easy to read and follow the thread of the conversation...... not so much. They seriously should buy stock in Chapstick and then not speak much until they hit the 7-year itch point in their relationship! LOL.
I was in the mood to read romantic suspense and decided to sort through several of the free books I have floating around on my kindle to see if anything caught my eye. As a sucker not only for a damsel in distress but also an amnesia story line, Protecting Rose by Cheryl Yeko, looked like a winner.
The action started right from the start which I appreciated. Nate Stone watches helplessly as a woman driving a truck runs off the road into a ravine. Rushing to help her, he soon realizes this is no simple accident, as he and the injured woman come under fire from a sniper. Complicating matters, the injured woman wakes in the hospital with no memory of who she is. Nate is determined to protect the injured woman, who he begins referring to by the name of Rose. Realizing that Rose continues to be in danger, Nate promises to keep her safe until he finds out who she is and why she is in danger.
She bit her lip. The questions that had tortured her all night spilled out in a rush. “Why am I in the hospital? Do I know you? Do you know why someone wants to hurt me?”
“Hey, hang on. Slow down.” He placed a finger over her lips. “One question at a time,” he said with a low chuckle.
She blinked, and stopped talking.
“All right then. First, you were in a car accident. I saw the accident and pulled you from the car.” He paused and gave her a quick smile. “Question number two. No. I don’t know you. But I promise...I will protect you.”
You never know what you’re going to find with some of the free reads you pick up but I surprisingly really enjoyed this one. Protecting Rose reminded me a little of a Lisa Marie Rice book (For those familiar with Lisa Marie Rice, think her Midnight series or her Protector series) with similar length and pacing. Also reminiscent of an LRM book, Nate Stone turns into the ultimate protector very quickly. He is drawn to Rose and is willing to do anything to keep her from being harmed. He is definitely a hero that was easy for me to like.
He should never have left her. It was something that wouldn’t happen again because he wasn’t leaving her side again until he knew she was safe. She was going under his protection. Mine! He found her. She was his to protect.
I do think LMR books may be a bit sexier overall but I thought the level of steam in Protecting Rose worked well for the story and I was satisfied that I got enough of everything, enough romance and enough suspense.
He stepped forward and caressed one of her cheeks with the back of his hand. With the other, he reached around her and pressed firmly at the small of her back. His eyes burned under hooded lids. He pulled her close, until their bodies touched and her breath caught on a gasp.
“This is such a bad idea,” he said huskily. His eyes grew warm and tender as he leaned down and lightly touched his mouth to hers.
A soft feather of a kiss brushed across her parted lips. More like an exchange of warm sweet breath than an actual kiss. The tenderness of it took her breath away.
Rose closed her eyes and leaned into him, her body eager for his touch. A shudder rolled through him and he gripped her tighter, before lifting his lips from hers. His hands slid up her body to cradle the back of her head, tilting her face up until she met his heated gaze.
He leaned forward and placed his forehead against hers. “Rose.” His lips feathered cinnamon kisses down her cheek to just below her ear.
“You are so sweet,” he whispered.
Overall Protecting Rose hit a sweet spot for me. It combined several of the things I love in a book in a well written, fast-paced, romantic suspense story line. I liked it so much, I went on to purchase Shielding Her Heart which is the story of Rick and Sheila, both characters introduced in Protecting Rose. I didn’t realize until later that I should have read A Man to Trust next instead of Shielding her Heart. The author doesn’t have her books labeled as being part of a series and all can be read as stand-alone reads. However, if you’re like me and want to read interconnected story lines in order, A Man to Trust is the next book to read after Protecting Rose. After searching my kindle, I actually already downloaded A Man to Trust at some point. If you frequently download titles that are offered as free, check to see if you have any books by Cheryl Yekp, as they have been offered as free downloads at some point.
Ultimately, Protecting Rose is a bit of a guilty pleasure but was exactly what I was looking for. I'm glad I took the chance in reading a title I didn't know anything about because I found an author I plan to stick with. I look forward to reading A Man to Trust and the other books currently offered by the author.
I really enjoyed this quick and easy read. Nate is police officer who just finished an undercover assignment which ended in a very successful bust. On his way home, a car comes barreling by him and he realizes it's fixing to crash. Unable to stop it, he watches as it rolls over the side of the road and rushes to help. He finds a beautiful unconscious woman, and while attempting to help her, someone starts shooting at them. He returns fire, but the shooter leaves because of the approaching sirens before Nate can catch/kill him. When the girl awakens at the hospital, she has partial amnesia and can't remember her name or the events prior to the crash. Nate assigns a police officer to her room until they can determine why someone was shooting at her. There is an attempt on her life at the hospital and the tests come back concluding her brakes were tampered with causing the car accident. Nate decides then he will be her personal bodyguard until they find who is after her. He decides to call her Rose until her memory returns. Both Rose and Nate are strongly attracted to each other. Nate feels fiercely protective of Rose and she only feels safe when he is around. Their developing relationship is so sweet. Nate is a wonderful man and does everything he can to make Rose feel comfortable and safe.
In Protecting Rose, there are safe houses, more attempts on her life, questions answered, leaks at the police department and a couple that are quickly falling in love with each other. It's fast paced and keeps you interested from the first chapter. I loved both main characters and Nate's partner Rick as well.
On a side note - I noticed several reviewers said the sex scenes were too hot and/or explicit for them in this book. Seriously?! The sex scenes between Rose and Nate were just perfect and sweet. Nate is very tender and considering Rose had no memory, the scenes fit the story. Also, there were only a few scenes so they certainly did not make up the "entire" story. I've read a number of books that contained a lot more explicit sex, and this book actually paled in comparison. I personally thought it was just right. It's a romance, romance usually includes sex.
Anyway, I really liked the book as well as the characters. It's told from dual POVs and can be read in a few hours.
A woman awakes from a car accident with no memory of who she is. The handsome detective who finds her names her "Rose." In a very short period of time, it's obvious someone tried to kill her and when they didn't succeed, they tried again. Detective Nate Stone moves her to a safe house, but the biggest danger for him is not the killer, but what Rose is doing to his heart.
Protecting Rose has it all. Love, danger, action, snappy dialog and a well developed story and characters. Kudos to Cheryl Yeko for an excellent start to what will surely be an amazing career.
Protecting Rose embraces all the reasons we read romance novels. The Characters are believable with simmering sexual tension along with a powerful storyline that keeps us reading from chapter to chapter as the story unfolds. High action with scintillating twists and turns right up to the end.
Nate is undercover trying to stop a stolen car ring. He finishes his assignment, the bad guys are going to jail, and Nate is headed home. He is contemplating calling his best best and partner, when a car comes up behind him much too quickly. Nate manages to get out of the way, but the driver of the car isn't so lucky. It goes over an embankment. Nate gets her out right before the car blows up, but someone starts shooting at them. They go to the hospital, discover the woman has amnesia and can't remember who she is, someone tries to kill her there, Nate decides to name her Rose, and determines that he is going to keep her safe. But a safe house is compromised, and then someone who knows where Nate has stashed Rose for the second time is beaten, and things get more high octane from there.
I can't remember who recommended this as a good romantic suspense, but...no. Just no. This was horrible. First of all, Nate was so unprofessional it wasn't even funny. Then, they were having sexy times the day after someone tried, and nearly succeeded, in killing Rose for a second time. I also found it hard to believe "the traitor" who was leaking indirmation could have been that up to date given their situation. Everything was so ludicrous, especially the fact that they fell in love so fast. Honestly, if it hadn't been for a team challenge, this would have been a big fat DNF. I guess the good thing is that I can delete any other books I have by this author, thereby slightly lessening my TBR, and put this author on my "not for me" shelf. A few down, thousands more to go!
Protecting Rose Milwaukee Series, Book 1 By: Cheryl Yeko Narrated by: Alan Taylor
Fast paced and exciting, Cheryl Yeko treats us to Nate and Rose's story! Nate is coming home after wrapping up a case only to see a speeding car veer off the road. When he gets to the car, the woman is unconscious, and after being shot while trying to help her, he knows she is in danger. When the woman awakes with no memory of who she is, Nate takes it upon himself to protect her, calling her Rose and doing his best not to act on his attraction to her. The questions are who is chasing her and why, and will he be able to keep her safe? Will she get her memory back and what will happen if she does? I love these kind of romantic suspense stories. Memory loss is extremely interesting, learning how the brain works, and what could possibly trigger the return. Rose is strong and brave during her journey, and having the handsome Nate by her side is just icing on the cake.Nate is the kind of man you want next to you during times of trouble. This is a fast, fun listen.
Alan Taylor has a very rich voice, and I enjoy his performances He has a protective quality that shines as Nate and he easily transitions into Rose with strength and love. He creates a warm feeling and makes the listen exciting and comforting.
There is a lot of danger, and it doesn’t stop with one dramatic moment like a lot of books do. It keeps ramping up with each incident. This was a very easy read, very easy to get submerged in and keep going until you know who Rose really is and why someone wants to kill her. The only thing I had a hard time believing was the romance and how fast it took off, and especially with a girl who was thought to be sexually abused from the person chasing her, but it was easy to like the characters and the storyline was fast paced and didn’t slow down. The basic plot idea is good but the execution of it is unrealistic from the extraordinary “safe house” to the source of the leaks that put the heroine in repeated peril. The main characters are well developed though the situations they are in and their behaviour is not really credible.
Heavy on the sex, if that is what you like. Not an author I want to read more of.
This story starts off fast and slow down.Mystery, suspense, thrills and a whole lot more action. You'll be sitting on the edge of your seat, from the very beginning to the end.
Good storyline but I hate the fact the author felt it was necessary to use the Lords name in vain. That ruined the story for me. The sex scenes were not called for either!!!
This is a fast-paced, suspenseful read with great characters. From the beginning until the end I couldn't put this thriller down. This is the first book that I have read by this author but, it definitely won't be the last. I can't wait to read the next book.
A lot of action, suspense and romance . A well thought out story you can get lost in with heroes and damsels in distress and really bad guys. Could have been better with more discreet bedroom scenes.
Great story very refreshing to have a love story before they jump into bed. The h and h were almost killed more than once. It did drag for a few chapters.
Excellent book. First time reading this author and am very happy with the book. Pulls you in right away and doesn't stop. Will be looking forward to reading more of her books!
Started off with an interesting premise but then "sex" read it's head and the book starting sliding off the cliff. Plot starting falling off half way and never recovered.
I really, really liked this suspenseful romance about Rose’s loss of memory from a traumatic experience and the continuing attacks upon her life which were puzzling to everyone. Policeman Nate is the one who found her following her escape from one captivity, the one who named her Rose because she did not know her name when he found her, the one who protected her until they could find out the who and why behind the attacks, and the one who fell in love with her because of Rose’s sweet nature. And Rose fell in love with Nate. Their romance was chock full of ups and downs and all-arounds as they dodged danger from the very beginning of the book until the very end. A very well-written, exciting romance laced with intrigue.
Interesting This was an interesting read. It had suspense, romance, and a mad man. Detective Nate Stone jumping from one fire into another. Literally. How can he not stop and help the driver of the burning car. Then shots are fired. When Rose wakes up in the hospital dazed and confused. However, she does find a handsome man waiting by her bed. When Detective Stone discovers that Rose is clearly in trouble he feels the need to protect her. He soon realizes that his protection might not be enough. Desperate measures must be taken. If you enjoy a romance with a twist of suspense that I would recommend this book. I received this book from Reading Alley in exchange for an honest review.
