We can't be good all the time, and no one knows it better than Anne Taintor. This generous collection of her most popular artwork includes more than 150 images in categories such as friendship (a real friend will help you hide the body), motherhood (WOW! I get to give birth AND change diapers!), money (screw the budget!), attitude (let a smirk be your umbrella), and more. Also featuring an introduction by Taintor, this hilarious volume perfectly captures the deliciously sarcastic, snarky, and honest things that most women have found themselves thinking at one time or another. If you're looking for trouble, look no further....
You may not recognize the name Anne Taintor, but it's more than likely have seen her work - on greeting cards, refrigerator magnets, or even that magical thing called the internet. Taking images from mid-century advertisements, and sticking on funny captions, Taintor has made a name for herself (and more than a few bucks) marketing her unique blend of nostalgia and humor.
A perfect image for these Covid-times:
And, my personal favorite:
This little book would make a great gift for a friend who's feeling down, or anyone who just needs a chuckle or two.
This is really just a collection of old-timey postcards with slogans on them, but the images and slogans are hilarious and I want all of them hanging on my wall
It was alright. I got this one because thrift books had it listed as a comedy and I guess I didn't read the description as closely as I thought I did. I was expecting humor, not art. And truthfully, it's not great art. Just old pictures (like from adverts and such) with a single sentence of text over each. And it's not really that funny. Just meh.
2.5 It's fun, it's fluffy, some of it was clever, but it's a touch repetetive. There was no real bangers in here for me, I would have liked two or three pages that I just wanted to rip out and put on my fridge. I think it's a matter of temprament, a lot of the tone here is just not my speed. The art is pretty incredible though.
I've read this book twice now, and it is new every time I read it. I love Tainer's books! They are funny in a sarcastic way: they are what you really are thinking, even though you'd never say that to the person it was meant for. Here's a sample: " what am I making for supper? why sweetie, I'm making whatever the hell I want served with a side of eat it or starve".
“Someone has to set a bad example: An Anne Taintor Collection” by Anne Taintor
“Was she in love … or was it just allergies..” "I love not camping.” Sarcastic humorous sentences re-imagining the 1950’s-style artwork of proposed domestic housewives. ..
It's a book of memes. I'm glad it was a library book & I didn't spend money on it...I'm sorry that the library probably did. Hopefully it was a freebie.
This was a fun way to read something in between reads. The pictures were fun to look at and come up with a few of my own quotes to go with them. Thank you.
I absolutely loved this book! The pictures were so beautiful!! The one liners that went along with the pictures were definitely humorous! My boss had given this book to me to look over on some down time. She said it really helps her to get through the day when things are tensed. So glad that I got a chance to read it. Definitely a constant page turner of laughs!
Full of sarcasm and very funny! Bacaan cepat. Lawak gila k misalnya gambar perempuan pegang telefon jauh dari telinga dengan caption 'please call back when i give a damn' kahkahkah so true. Like we did it all the time!
