McCalls' Montana #2

Cowboy Accomplice

Rate this book

HOW HARD COULD IT BE TO FIND A COWBOY IN MONTANA...?

All J.T. McCall cared about were cattle. He'd always been the responsible brother and had taken over the day-to-day management of the family-owned Sundown Ranch years ago. He was as authentic as a cowboy can come--and Regina Holland knew it.

He was just what she was looking for, and she was determined to have him--for business purposes only, of course. So when she finagled a job with his cattle drive deep in the Montana mountains, she didn't count on becoming a killer's target or on falling for J.T. But would they survive the assault of a madman?

I loved this story. The plot was filled with mystery, suspense, action, and romance. I loved the heroine of the story. Regina worked for Way out west jeans. The company was in danger of going under. Finding the perfect cowboy to model the jeans was her last attempt of saving the company. She drove from Los Angeles to Montana to find a real cowboy to model in her commercial. Regina never backed down from any challenge. When her life was in danger she always came out fighting.
T.J McCall owned a ranch. He spotted a red sports car broken down on the side of the road. He stopped, and helped Regina change a flat tire. She thought he was her cowboy, perfect for the commercial. T.J didn’t have time for this. He turned her down flat. He had six hundred head of cattle to chase down from the summer pasture. His camp cook was out with a broken leg. He asked his foreman to hire another cook for the round up. Well T.J got the shock of his life when he stepped into camp that night. The new cook was Regina. Like I said Regina never backed away from a challenge. This part of the book had me laughing so hard. She had never cooked, but how hard could it be? The first meal the men didn’t recognize what was being served.
Nine years before on a round up several of his men was murdered, and someone attempted to steal his cows. Strange things started happening to lead up to what had happened. T.J has a bad feeling about this round up. It starts off with someone disabling the only truck. If anyone got hurt they had no fast way to get them the help they would need. I loved that the author gave us several suspects so we had no idea who was behind it all. T.J. and Regina couldn’t trust anyone. T.J. knew he had to protect Regina, and at the same time round up his cows. His ranch foreman had left the first night on horseback to go get another truck and hire a new camp cook. He knew how important this round up was. He had worked for T.J for years and was one he knew he could count on. He had a bad feeling when his foreman never came back to camp. He knew something bad had happened to him.

Excellent book with lots of mystery.

I gave this book three stars only because it is a short book. I enjoyed this story about Regina Holland and her desire to hire J.T. McCall for a blue Jean commercial she was producing to try and save her company. Being a real cowboy and a ranch to run, J.T. did not want anything to do with Regina but when she lied to his Forman and told him she could cook, she was hired for a round-up. Now they were way up in the mountain ranges with danger lurking behind every tree. Interesting story.

Funny and sad. Reggie has never cooked anything. J.T. is upset that she was hired as camp cook. A man out for revenge is also in camp.

Great book! Read in one sitting. Lots of horrendous violence and crime. But other than that, I loved it.

2.5/5 STARS! Lol this book is so ridiculous, but entertaining none the less. Short & easy read, okay addition to the McCall family storyline.

The writing is great, but the plot fell apart at the end. Ignoring the real world can only take a mystery so far. When you ignore basic policing and survival techniques you lose a star for that.

Regina is from Los Angeles on the hunt for the perfect cowboy butt for a commercial for her jeans company. She has a flat tire just outside of Antelope Flats, MT and J.T. McCall stops to fix it for her. Regina has found her perfect cowboy butt and chest and arms and face. J.T. is just plain perfect all the way up and down. He is just not interested in doing her commercial.

J.T. is way behind getting his herd down from the summer pasture. He needs a crew and a cook and he needs them yesterday. When he arrives at camp Buck has scraped the bottom to find a crew and the cook.... Some how the very hot redhead with the flat tire has talked Buck into giving her the job as cook. J.T. is fit to be tied over this. But something about the whole camp and crew is just not setting well with him. When the truck turns up disabled and Buck fails to return with another vehicle, he knows that things are not going to get better, especially since this situation has an eerie feel like the one 9 years ago when a lot of people ended up dead trying to rustle the herd. To top it off he has to somehow keep Reggie alive and get them both to safety. Not easy when a maniac is set on killing you.

Other than the fact I wanted to punch the woman in the face right away, it was not a bad story.

A B.J. Daniels novel is the perfect escape hatch. As with all of her books, this story kept me glued to it until the end.
