Soooo beautiful. I feel like this would work really well if you made up a little dance for it and spoke it aloud with a big group of kids.

Simple and easy read. I appreciate the main focus being a young dark skinned girl, portraying things like braiding protective styles, success in academics, and self confidence. Important to note that there is one line stating “these hands can pray”, which may interfere with school regulation on religious media.

I’d recommend this book particularly for younger students who are learning to read, kindergarten to 1st grade. I’d also recommend this story for any young students who enjoy being active and would benefit from seeing themselves within a story.

This is a cute easy read, suitable for young children. It points out all the great things about our hands. It is written in the form of a poem. The illustrations are wonderful since the author was generous with the colors.

I prefer books with more meat, more story.

Here there is no story, it is a concept book.

The illustrations are ok. I like the style more than what they actually depict.

Book more suitable for teachers than as a bedtime book.

This book is a great read aloud and great for beginning readers. These Hands, with its simple rhymes and collage illustrations, create a feeling of wonder and joy by take a sensitive look at some of the common things we can do with our hands. Price is able to give us a touching look at everyday life and bit of hope for the future.

I remember when I was in my other placement the counselor did a puppet show on how to use our hands to do the right things instead of hitting or hurting people. This book teaches childrens different ways to use their hand to do productive tasks.

This is a cool book to read when looking at rhythm and rhyming, as well as family life. It's beautiful to see how the little girl interacts with her family by using her hands so often and how she uses them. Students could make a good connection with this and write poetry about their own hands!
