SUPERANNO A first-person account of living in Hitler's Germany when the first bombs of World War II fell, as told by a five-year-old. Her father became a Russian prisoner at Stalingrad, and her mother fled with her two children to the village of Straupitz in 1943. Overrun by the Russians, they barely managed to return to West Berlin in November 1946, where they faced three years of terrible winters, starvation, and the Berlin Blockade.
What an interesting and insightful book! Told by a woman who experienced the War and it’s aftermath firsthand. The destruction and ‘rebuilding’ of West Berlin, the mistreatment by the Soviets after the end of the war, the dividing Wall, the struggle for freedom and the determination of the West Berliner’s to remain free at all costs makes for an inspiring story of strength and determination. I hope to read her second book which covers periods before and after this.
