Powers come at a price in this gripping second installment of The Lockwood Trilogy.

Natalie Covington’s world is spinning out of control. She’s dealing with the aftermath of the previous month, grappling to understand her newfound powers, nursing a broken heart, and using Wes to try and gain answers about her past, present, and future.

Meanwhile, Wes has motives of his own. Raised as a precog assassin, Wes’ entire existence has been consumed by death until he meets Natalie, who feels like life. He’s willing to do whatever it takes to make Natalie “his” for good.

Things grow more complicated when precog forces come after Natalie, and Henry re-enters her life, only much different than before. Can Natalie trust Henry to help her unravel the truth about who she is and what powers she holds before Wes can do something about it?

Review 4.5 stars!

This is the second book of the Lockwood Trilogy and it starts off right after the events of book 1! 👀
Perfect for those looking for an upper YA / NA paranormal romance series with a suspenseful atmosphere in an elite private boarding school setting. Seriously such an unique storyline, I can’t recommend it enough!

It follows the story of Natalie, who’s life is spinning out of control. Prepare yourselves for hidden societies, secret powers and a light steamy romance 🔥after the end of book 1 I was desperate to get my hands on book 2! The story is full of lies, betrayal and manipulation that will have you needing answers asap! 😱I am normally good at seeing plot twists coming but with this series Melissa really gets me everytime 😂 I do enjoy a love triangle so I was conflicted but I don’t know about you guys but I’m team Henry still 👀 my favorite part of this series is definitely the shocking turns of events, after that ending I can’t wait to see what Melissa throws at us in book 3!!

Thank you to the author for gifting me a copy for review.

Ahh, Melissa, you clever, evil genius. Bahahah, I need book 3 ASAP. 🫠

This was another incredibly fun and mysterious book in the trilogy. I am so excited to read the conclusion soon since book two ends on a big cliffy. I really like where Melissa is going with the series, and although I don't quite have all the details figured out I do have several theories, and I'm so excited to see if I'm right.

If you're looking for a Paranormal Romance series with angst, tension, secrets, betrayal, secret societies, characters with special abilities, and an affluent school setting, then this is for you!

Tysm for letting me be an ARC reader!

4.5 stars- I was so excited to read book 2 after reading Control a few months ago! This is perfect for lovers of mystery, school setting, x-men type powers, friendships.

this story picks up where we left off in book 1, Natalie is learning to work through her powers and her difficult relationship with Henry... Im a Henry fan, this has not changed. Although we do see more characters come in and I have to admit they are likable.

I loved the interaction in this book. The author gives us great relationship development as well as character development, which I am a sucker for. The atmosphere in this book totally gave me xmen boarding school vibes, I am here for it! I absolutely love Natalie's character, her growth and acceptance on the changes unraveling changes in her life were really interesting to follow. I cannot wait for the next book, Cassera definitely is a sneaky one with her cliffhangers!!

Huge thanks to the author for gifting me a copy. All opinions are my own.

Unravel is book two in the Lockwood Trilogy and it was even better than book one! This book picks up right where Control left off…Natalie is devastated and heartbroken and Wes is there to help pick up the pieces…even though her heart still belongs to Henry. When she finds out she’s being hunted, Natalie begins her search for the secret society that’s trying to track down and study pre-cogs (think X-Men style powers). This book is action packed and absolutely unputdownable. I picked up the book and the next thing I knew, I’d read almost 50% and really needed to go to bed 😆 it was definitely darker than Control, but that fit the plot of this book so well. That cliffhanger left me speechless and I absolutely cannot wait for book three!

Thanks to the author for gifting me a copy. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

I so thoroughly enjoyed Unravel, the second book in the Lockwood trilogy. This installment picked up shortly after where book one ended. We watch Natalie have to deal with the aftermath from the last book and how she is struggling with her new abilities. The author does an amazing job at world building and truly immerses you into the story. Can't wait for book 3!

Diving into Unravel was like starting the second season of a beloved show and enjoying all the familiar elements of the story while also being blown away by the new ones.

Just like with Control, I had a hard time setting this book down. The story picks up shortly after the events of the first book, in the aftermath of some shocking discoveries for Natalie and in an especially difficult situation when it comes to her relationship with Henry. The mystery still revolves mostly around Natalie and her powers, but in this installment the stakes were higher, and other players in the Boarding School also played a big role in it. I was particularly happy to see more of Natalie's friend, Ciel, and to learn more about complicated Wes. I'm a Henry fan through and through, but getting into Wes's twisted mind was a real treat, and he will certainly appeal to lovers of red flags.

Once again, Melissa Cassera blew me away with the final stretch of the book! Between unexpected plot twists, reveals that change everything I thought I knew about this world and that shocking cliffhanger, I cannot wait to get my hands on the next book.

Thank you to the author for gifting me a copy. Opinions are my own.

Thank you for the ARC!

Overall, I really enjoyed this book, and I'm really excited to see where the next one takes us (and the prequel series I think I coming out too?).

Things I didn't like: I had a harder time getting into this book than the first one. I can say that's only because I find Wes to be an incredibly unlikeable character and it was a bit of a hard shift for me to go from having Henry's POV to having Wes's instead.

Things I loved: This series is shaping up to be one of the most unique series I've ever read. I feel like consistently I can't confidently say that I know what is going on. BUT not in a "I'm confused way" but in a "the author has laid the foundation for so many different theories just to throw us off" and I love it. Without giving spoilers, what happens in the last few chapters of this book fascinates me and I need to the third book immediately.

Unravel by Melissa Cassera is the second book in the Lockwood trilogy. This book has a little bit of a love triangle, a serial killer, secret societies, and more magical insight. It also has the tropes of second chance romance, hate physical interactions (there’s no actual sex) and love can conquer all mentality.
The story begins right after Control which is the first book in the series. Natalie is heartbroken over the fact that Henry left her. Wes however is more than happy to be Natalie’s shoulder to cry, person to “love”, distraction and to protect her. Natalie doesn’t trust Wes enough as he is a trained assassin but does take up him on being a distraction for her. She is trying to further learn about her own powers, who she could be and why Henry would leave her after all that they had been through in the first book. Later on in the story you find out that Natalie is being hunted and her murder is wanted. Wes and her try to keep her friends out of harms way while trying to learn what would make someone want to put a hit out on Natalie as she believes she is nothing special besides a few random sparks she feels when she’s angry. You find out that with this hit out on Natalie there’s a whole secret society that tricks precogs into being believing they are precogs instead of half-demons and want to study Natalie because she’s not human and not a precog. After finding this out Natalie goes in search of this secret society for numerous reasons but will all be spoilers if I state them. The ending is such a huge shock that will leave you excited for the next one!
My absolute favorite thing about this book is the ending. I loved the shock factor of it. I also love that it makes you think about the first book with more questioning. Was leading up to the ending the first test that Natalie failed? Or was the first book the only time that Natalie remembers parts of the previous test? How many times has Natalie, Wes and Henry been put through this test? Is this why Amelia knew so much about what Natalie was going to do? Who from Natalie’s life is so important? Or was it already found out from the Authority? These are the types of questions that the ending left me and I absolutely can’t wait until the next book to see what the answers are.
My least favorite thing about this book was Wes’ POV. I understood the writing style of making him more deranged and delusional as he’s supposed to be a dark character and a trained assassin from childhood. I however felt like it made him too emotional as a male character or just any character really. He became too obsessed which made him too rage filled and jealous and too murdery. He just seemed a bit too much which makes you as the reader I feel forgive Henry for everything because he’s clearly better for Natalie than Wes. It just made reading Wes’ POV a bit too much at times.
I gave this book five stars. Besides Wes, I absolutely loved this book. It kept me on the tips of my toes and very interested. Like I stated before I loved the ending. I thought that everyone could relate to Natalie more in this book as a scorned lover who just needs help to make herself not feel so broken. I loved all of the twists that involved Henry in this and it made for an intriguing plot. Highly recommend!

After the shocking ending of Control, I couldn't wait to dive into UNRAVEL and see what more was in store for Natalie. And ooooh boy, there was a lot! This second installment dives even deeper into precogs, the mystery of Natalie's powers and her mother's role in all of this, but the stakes were higher than ever. I loved that the story seemed to branch out not just to Natalie and Henry this time, but to other characters in the Boarding School as well—especially Natalie's bestie Ciel, Wes, and the new shady headmaster.

I have, however, come to the conclusion that Natalie and I do not see eye to eye with men. While my girl is still very much team Henry (who was let off the hook with too much ease for my taste), I was far more fascinated by Wes. He's a decidedly dark character compared to the rest, but his intensity made him extremely interesting and unpredictable. A red flag for sure, but I am colorblind. Loved having the possibility of reading his chapters and seeing the "dark" potential of this story.

Once again, the story as a whole kept a very cinematic pace throughout. There were so many shocking twists I never would have seen coming, and the world is expanding far more than I ever thought possible with magic and deities. The crescendo toward the ending was brilliantly done, and it leads to a shocking cliffhanger! Beware but also enjoy because it was so well executed! Cannot wait for the next one!

I'm a little late in my review due to stuff that came up, but this book was amazing! Somehow, Melissa managed to make Unravel even better than Control! I was so invested in this story!

Unravel is book 2 in the Lockwood Trilogy and focuses heavily on Wes and Natalie. I loved seeing things from Wes' point of view because he's seriously so unhinged! I was even happier once Henry came back into the mix because I just love him!

The twists in this book were so good and unexpected that I seriously gasped out loud! I can't wait for book 3!

Ok here we go again
Natalie & Wes & eventually Henry

Natalie is so headstrong & stubborn…you’ve just got to love her…Wes on the other hand you start to feel a little sorry for…he’s so in love with Natalie…only to realize he’s a manipulative jerk face….he tries to do everything he can to make sure he gets what he thinks is his…I know men like this…it never works out well
Then there’s Henry…about the time you give up on him he reappears & makes the story even better…you just have to wait for Natalie to start piecing things together…all the lies & manipulations…what’s real & what isn’t

Everything you thought you knew was either wrong or not even close…or at least that’s how it was for me…I had it all figured out at least 5 times only to get to the end & realize I had no clue…I love when a story can keep you guessing & this one definitely did

Now to wait for book 3 next year…I have got to know what happens….do Natalie & Henry end up together??? & what about Wes??? Where does he fit in after everything that’s happened??? I need answers 😉

Unravel by Melissa Cassera

Book 2 in the Lockwood Trilogy

Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️.5/5
Spice level: 🌶️/3
Genres: YA, Paranormal Fiction
Tropes: secret powers, secret identities, private/boarding school, secluded island, different worlds

Natalie is dealing with the aftermath of the previous month, and trying to understand her newfound powers as well as cope with the heartbreak of Henry leaving. She uses Wes to try to get answers about her past and the precog world she has been pushed into, but she can tell he’s not being truthful with her.

Meanwhile, Wes has his own motives. He sees Natalie as a way to finally bring some normality into his life, and he becomes obsessed and possessive.

Things become more complicated when precog forces come after Natalie, and Henry is revealed to be part of them. She struggles to figure out if Henry has really turned sides or if she can trust him.

This story is multi-POV, mainly following Natalie and Wes.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I loved seeing the character development of Natalie after the last book. She’s become a much cooler character, who doesn’t take anyone’s sh*t. I appreciate that we finally get to see her being less helpless.
The plot has definitely gotten more complicated, and more of the details regarding the paranormal aspects of the world are revealed. The world building is still definitely being laid out, which is alright since Natalie (who the POV follows most of the time) is also still learning about this new world she is in.
My only real issue was when the POV was from Wes. He was a super irritating character in this book. I don’t think he seemed as irritating last book, but I also think he didn’t have many POV chapters last book. I understand that for the plot, his personality is necessary and makes sense. It’s just a LOT, because he has the POV almost half of the time. It is clear he has some mental stuff going on as well, but there were things about his personality/actions/reactions that didn’t feel consistent throughout the story.
Overall, I think this is a great addition to the Lockwood Trilogy and I’m excited to read the last book when it comes out! If you like paranormal fiction, especially set in a private/boarding school, definitely check this series out.
Thank you to the author for a copy of this to read ✨
‼️‼️‼️book specific notes, may contain spoilers‼️‼️‼️
-they know literally nothing about Amelia but Wes instantly determines he needs to kill her?
-part of what makes Wes’s character feel kind of inconsistent is that he talks a lot of sh*t about being an assassin/murdered/whatever but he’s only killed one person? Like Natalie has killed just as many. It just doesn’t make sense
-Wes says this quote : “I miscalculated, thinking I could guilt her into a relationship.” Like oomf dude. He really was a hard character to like lol
📖 ARC Review 📖
🌶️ .5
I feel like its unfair to rate this book.. I feel like there is so many I enjoyed in this book, but also so many things I couldn't stand in this book. This book picks up right where the last book ended. Henry is gone, Natalie is confused on what powers she potentially has, Lockwood is in shambles, and Wes's love for Natalie is growing. This book is more action packed then the first book, which is normal for it being a trilogy. However, it didn't really pick up pace until around the 50% mark. I personally felt like it could have gone without the first half of the book, but that's just my opinion.
Pros:
1: The fact that Natalie never gave up hope for Henry. She really did have true feelings for him and the way she played Wes made me love her even more.
2: Wes is willing to find out anything and everything he needs to save Natalie, no matter how dangerous it is.
3: The flow of the story was a 10/10. Like I mentioned, this book feels like not even 5 minutes where wasted from the ending of the first book and the beginning of the second book. With each chapter no matter the POV, it flowed seamlessly within other previous POV.
4: THE DRAMA! Given this is a YA novel, you would have never expected it to be so drama filled and juicy. It left me turning the page to see what happens.
5: Henry.. he is the GOAT. I simply couldn't get enough of him. He did what he had to do to protect Natalie.
6: The fact that Greek mythology is going to play a role in all of this.
Cons:
1: Wes.. he came off as super clingy and some times felt like he was forcing himself on Natalie. There was a few times she has to yell get off me, why couldn't he have taken the first no? I felt like it was uncalled for, especially with it being YA.. I found myself skipping most of his POV chapters as I couldn't stand it. It doesn't matter how much he thinks he loves her, don't write a character to act like that. Its not a trigger to me, but rather an ick..
2: Some of the events in the book are far fetched.
3: The blood bond, it just doesn't sit right with me. It could have been how it was written, but I felt like it wasn't needed in the story line.
4: The ending.. I get that its suppose to be a cliff hanger, but for it to end the way it did made me a little mad. However, the glimpse into the new book made up for it..
.
.
As you can see, the above reasons is why I'm honestly unsure on how I would properly rate this book. I did enjoy the book for the supernatural aspect, and the light mention of Greek Mythology. The book will also keep you engrossed and wanting to know more.
Gonna need book three asap after that ending
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️.5
TW: graphic animal death on page. This may not bother others but I wish I had been warned before reading this that it was going to happen.
Unravel picks up immediately after Control, so if you haven’t read that yet you absolutely must go read that one first… I also recommend you stop reading this review here if you haven’t read control because while I won’t be spoiling anything from Unravel in this review it’ll be pretty hard to keep Control spoilers out!! Now if you’re still reading then you’ll know that Control ended with a devastating cliffhanger!! Henry (my personal favorite character) leaves us and Natalie ends up heading back to Lockwood with Wes. Just when things have seemed like they’ve settled down for our main characters though, leaving them with time to explore the truths revealed in book one… an old enemy in a new disguise appears… leaving our heroes/heroines scrambling to save themselves and the people they love all while trying to solve the family mysteries and secrets they’ve been left with!! All of this coming down to an epic conclusion (read as cliffhanger) that will have you NEEDING more!
In Unravel we do see a change of POVs, we still have Natalie, but now we also get to see Wes’ POV. I have to say I think I like Natalie a lot more in this book, she seemed to be embracing herself more. In control she was still coming to grasp with exactly who she was and what she should do and was a bit to people pleasing for me in a way… in this book though. Natalie is much quicker to stand up for herself, much steadier in her decision making, with just the right amount of manipulative to get her exactly what she wants! Then of course there was Wes… who I’ll be honest felt a little like I had to trudge through his POV, he’s just so unlikable. Which I know is the point but man he was just a walking red flag… and he seemed to both hate and revel in being a red flag at all times. I mean he’s obsessive towards Natalie, wanting to let her be “independent” but only if she was making decisions he agreed with, he was also a bit to willing to do what needs to be done for me if you catch my drift…especially for someone who seemed to detest the life and job he was raised in. Which I’ll admit made it a bit difficult for me to finish this story. It was worth it in the end though to get to that finale!
This is a book I would definitely recommend adding to your TBR if you life YA dark academia vibes, mystery, romance, a bit of suspense, and a mixture of characters that will make your heart sore and test your patience!
HAPPY READING 📖
UNRAVEL (The Lockwood Trilogy #2)
Rating: 4/5 ⭐
Spice: No explicit spice
Kindle Unlimited
Genre: Young Adult, Paranormal, Coming-of-Age, Mystery
Tropes: Dual POV, Angst, Touch her and 💀, Cliffhanger ending
“I'm going to see my plan through. Because people like me don't unravel. They win.”
SUMMARY:
Powers come at a price. Natalie Covington’s world is spinning out of control as she deals with the unraveling aftermath of the past month. Not only is she dealing with the information she found out, she's also nursing a broken heart while using Wes to learn as much as she can about herself and her expanded world. Meanwhile, Wes has his own motives as a precog assassin and he’s willing to do whatever it takes to make Natalie “his” for good. When Henry reenters Natalie's life, can Natalie trust him to help her unravel the truth about who she is and what powers she holds? Or will Wes do something to prevent it?
“Honey, she wants to see how far she can push you, how much you will come unraveled. And she's going to keep doing it again and again unless we find a way to stop her.”
What I liked: THE ENDING? THE LAST CHAPTER? I immediately went back and reread the first book's first chapter. What a ride! I loved the growth of Natalie and Henry in this story.
What I didn't like: The second half of the book messes with our characters in a way that also messes with the reader. I found myself constantly questioning what I was reading and it almost became too much for me mentally.
My Rating System:
5 ★ Masterfully created work of art with many strong qualities. Will re-read. Cannot imagine my life without it. Devastated it is over.
4 ★ Solid Work. Enjoyed from beginning to end.
3 ★ Decent with poor execution in some manner. Neutral.
2 ★ Wasn't good but not completely bad. Only 1 or 2 redeeming qualities
1 ★ DNF and/or no redeeming qualities
Unravel by Melissa Cassera
Book 2 of 3
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
arc read
pub date 9/18/2023
Fantasy/Paranormal/Romance/Dark/Suspense
Tropes:
- Love triangle
- Star crossed lovers
- Touch her and 💀
- Dark Academia
- New found powers
Unravel is the second book in the Lockwood trilogy for the control debut novel. I literally devoured control, I loved everything about the angst and sexual tension between the main characters and then there was a giant cliffhanger left over, and I could not wait to dive in to unravel to get some answers.
Unravel picks up where control left off which I’m really thankful for. We are still in the dark academia Lockwood school for the elite. Nothing but rich kids who are sent to this private school to be out of their parents hair but little do they know the magical beings that are also around them.
ALSO ALSO - the prequel ‘Black Sea’ ummmmm excuse me but HOLY COW AM I REACHING OR AM I MAKING THE CONNECTIONS?! IYKYK
I’m not gonna lie. Melissa you really had me going for this dual POV thinking I was going to pull for someone. I love the dual POV and getting to be inside each characters minds, and why they’re doing what they’re doing. I almost went to the other side, but I am team Hatalie forever. BUT YOU ALMOST HAD ME. I have a thing for the moraly grey villains 😅
There was a lot of build up in the beginning keeping me on my toes like when’s the shit gonna hit the fan and then BAM. Immediate rollercoaster with a new plot twist at every turn and I am stressing because the AuThOrItY is really starting to piss me off.
To end all of this on, I absolutely love Melissa’s work. It’s so easy to read and get lost and captivated in the story line and I cannot wait for book 3: Undone to give me some final answers!
Also how cool is it that i’m a total Lockwood prep in my little crew neck sent by Melissa?! 🖤🖤🖤
Unravel by Melissa Cassera is the second book of the Lockwood Trilogy. In addition to reading book one I also strongly suggest you read the novella Black Sea, which is part of the Lockwood universe. This is a young adult paranormal romance. Book two picks up 33 days after the events of book one, with Natalie and Wes back on the Lockwood campus. Threats to both of them emerge on campus as Natalie struggles to find answers about her past and what she is.
The Lovely: I loved the plot and tension of this book. It was a wild ride full of twists and turns. The last one quarter was a bit chaotic in terms of keeping track of what was going on but it was fun to try to figure out the puzzle pieces.
The Mundane: The world-building in terms of the magic system didn’t develop a whole lot over the prior book. We did learn a bit more towards the end of the book (some of which is based on the Black Sea novella) but I wanted to have learned more.
The Dreadful: I did not like Wes or the chapters where the story was from his POV. I know he’s not supposed to exactly be a likable guy but his extreme obsession with Natalie became straight obnoxious after the first quarter of the book. It was so repetitive I just wanted to skip his chapters.
Rating: 4/5 Stars
Recommendation: I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily. This was definitely different than more normal reads but I quite honestly needed a break from romantic fantasy and fae. While I liked the world and the story, as discussed above, I never felt emotionally invested in the characters. The cliffhanger of an ending kept my attention and I’m excited to see what happens next and how the paranormal aspect of the world develops. If you like mysterious magic/paranormal systems and young adult stories with some romance, I think you would like this book.
I need book 3 NOW! This was an absolutely insane, crazy read that was so good! I always love books that make me question everything that is going on and trying to figure out how the pieces fit. I thought I had things figured out about 70% of the way through, then bam...Melissa took a hammer to that and blew my mind. The ending (and that little sneak peek) has me so ready for the final showdown.
Even though I loved this book, I will be honest and say it was a little bit of a struggle to get into it at the beginning. I absolutely despise Wes and anytime it was one of his chapters, I cringed so hard. I know the point of view was necessary because it really did give great insight into his history as an assassin in training and his motivations with Natalie, but ughhh. He has absolutely no idea what love is (and I understand why he doesn't because of his background) and he doesn't want a relationship with Natalie, he just wants to possess her and control her. He doesn't want her to do anything besides think about him. Just major creepo vibes.
I was so excited when Henry came back into the picture and seeing more of him towards the end of the book. Team Henry forever. It was really interesting to see how Natalie and Henry's powers have developed, especially when they are together. I did see some nods to the novella Black Sea which made me excited because I truly loved that story. Here's hoping that Effie and Hayden make an appearance in book 3.
Overall, this was a really entertaining, engaging book that will shock you and make you crave more.
I was given an ARC of this book for my honest review. I am leaving this review voluntarily.
I can't get enough of The Lockwood Trilogy! Melissa Cassera continues to pull me in and keep me coming back with her action-packed sequel.
I must thank the author for letting me read an early copy of this book! After reading Control, I was desperate to keep reading. And it was more than I could have asked for.
The book starts up where the first one left off. Natalie is searching for answers trying to figure out her powers, Henry is gone, and Wes is clingy as ever. Everything at Lockwood is in disarray. There's a new person in charge of Lockwood and way too many unexpected events happening.
Wanting more info on her powers and what she is, Natalie turns to Wes. Wes lives for her attention and will do anything she asks. He gives her answers but deep down she knows there are things he is keeping from her. She knows better than to truly trust Wes, but he still believes they are endgame.
When a vision shows people being put in danger, Natalie and Wes work together to try and prevent any harm done. And trust me, things are even more complicated than they seem.
For all my Henry fans, I can confirm that he does make a return. I won't give too many spoilers away but just know that Melissa's writing didn't disappoint.
I told myself that I wasn't going to stay up past my bedtime to finish reading it, but I broke that promise to myself. And it was well worth it! Be prepared because it does end in a bit of a cliffhanger. But like I mentioned before it will keep you coming back for more. I can't wait for book 3 so I can see what Melissa has in store for us!
Unravel, book 2 in the Lockwood Trilogy, is a wonderful follow up to Control and there are little nuggets/Easter eggs from Black Sea too.
Unravel begins where Control left off with our little love triangle being at odds. Natalie is so broken up over the devastation from Henry, but we all know that Wes is more than happy to be her shoulder to cry on. However, Natalie doesn’t know the secrets that lie behind Wes’s facade. You thought you jumped in the deep end of their story in book 1, but Melissa only takes you further in book 2. Natalie and Henry eventually reunite, under different circumstances. And she finds out that not only is her mother alive, but Wes’s uncle was responsible for supposedly killing her.
After finding this out, Natalie is determined to unravel her powers, with the help of Henry, before Wes can do anything about it. This does end on quite the cliffhanger, so be prepared. I can’t wait for the next book.
Thank you @melissa.cassera for the ARC and writing such a captivating story.
Oh my God. Oh. My. God. I literally just finished this book and I cannot even process my thoughts... This book. 😳 This book has my mind going all over the place! I have SO many questions right now. ??? My mind is literally blown. 🤯 Like what?!? What the heck is going to happen in book 3!?! I feel like it can only get crazier from here. I don’t think I can wait until February for the final book!
If you thought the first book was full of twists and turns, just wait! You have no idea. Just when you think you’ve figured it out… just when you think it can’t get worse… Bam! 🤯🤯🤯
I don’t know how much I can say without giving it away. I will say that Henry is back and I’m still totally #teamhenry all the way! The connection that Natalie & Henry have ❤️. We all know that Wes is not a good guy… he was raised as an assassin, so he’s a darker character, but he does have some redeeming scenes in this book. He truly loves Natalie and will do anything to protect her and keep her as “his”. I did start to feel for him towards the end though, even after the one scene that had me gasp out loud! (End of chapter 49, beginning of 50- I was so mad at Wes!) I have a feeling though that Wes is going to redeem himself in book 3… but who knows! I’ve tried to guess what’s going to happen and I’ve always been wrong! Lol
If you enjoy YA Paranormal/ Fantasy, then I definitely recommend this book. BUT you can’t read Unravel without reading the first book, Control, first.
Oh. My. God. 🤯 Like just a billion of these guys 🤯🤯🤯
Seriously I can’t really even process what I just read. Ughh god I love the way Melissa Cassera writes, it’s the perfect mix of angst and thrilling mystery. It’s so utterly all consuming and addicting and I absolutely love it. This series is like the angsty slow burn of Twilight (or Vampire Diaries if you’re old like me and love the OG teenage vampire love story) mixed with the mind bending mystery and intrigue of Maze Runner and then mix in some dark academia for the awesome sauce that is the Lockwood Trilogy.
Unravel picks up right where we left off at the end of book 1 and it’s non stop action and fast paced so get ready to pull an all nighter reading this one! The last two hours of this book are insane so don’t even think about taking a break at that point 😂 and then the ending just left me devastated. I was mouth open, shocked, gasping, shaking my head in denial! So freaking good! And omg I love Henry so much, him and Natalie *sigh*. Wes is horrible, I hate him, but I love to hate him 😆. I cannot wait for book 3!!! I need it immediately.
*I received an ARC from the author in exchange for my honest opinion. All thoughts and opinions expressed are 💯 my own!
The. Chokehold. I’m. In. 👏
Melissa you are brilliant, outstanding, amazing and everything in between... I am slightly 🤏🏻 in my feelings but it’s okay. 😭 Counting down to Book 3. Unravel was even better than Control and I didn’t know that was going to be possible.
Blurb: Powers come at a price in this gripping second installment of The Lockwood Trilogy.
Natalie Covington’s world is spinning out of control. She’s dealing with the aftermath of the previous month, grappling to understand her newfound powers, nursing a broken heart, and using Wes to try and gain answers about her past, present, and future.
Meanwhile, Wes has motives of his own. Raised as a precog assassin, Wes’ entire existence has been consumed by death until he meets Natalie, who feels like life. He’s willing to do whatever it takes to make Natalie “his” for good.
Things grow more complicated when precog forces come after Natalie, and Henry re-enters her life, only much different than before. Can Natalie trust Henry to help her unravel the truth about who she is and what powers she holds before Wes can do something about it?
I was given an ARC in exchange for a honest review.
WOW!
Unravel is the second book in The Lockwood Trilogy and is just as captivating as the first book! Unravel takes place a little over a month after Control. The story immediately grabbed me and took me a long for a ride.
Some of the questions I had from the first book were answered but there are still some that need answering. We also find out how the prequel ties in as well.
I still don't like Wes. I'm sorry. I found his feelings for Natalie to be more of wanting to possess and control her than anything else. This is not a traditional love triangle, thankfully. I didn't find myself ever rooting for Wes. I am fully Team Henry.
While I didn't agree with some of Natalie's actions, I still understood them. I still liked the character even if I found myself wanting to scream at her sometimes. She is still as likeable as she was in the first book.
I really enjoy this world and look forward to learning more about it through the prequel series and the final book in the trilogy! It's been a fun ride so far! Can't wait to see how it all ends!
I received an ARC of this title for free from the author and am leaving this review voluntarily. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
HOOOOOOLY heck. Lockwood in its villain era, INDEED.
Melissa really DID something here. Did I have other books that I needed to finish? Yes, about four or five of them. Did that stop this book from LOCKING ME IN from the first page? No, no it absolutely did not.
The plan was just to do a little peek-a-boo, to get a feel for what we readers were working with in book two. At three percent, I can confirm that my jaw somehow found its way to the floor and I think it may still be there. I ended up reading to 63 percent in one sitting before forcing myself to go to bed. And if you guessed that as soon as I had my coffee in hand when I woke up this morning I was tiptoeing right back to finish her off… you’d be right. Like I said, LOCKED IN.
She’s DEFINITELY darker than the first installment, and I am all the way here for it. I also thought the author did a fabulous job of answering a lot of the questions that I’m sure a lot of us were left with after book one.
Waiting til February for Undone is going to be a STRUGGLE.
This is book two in The Lockwood Trilogy. The first half of the book is sort of slow as we unravel (pun intended, there's a lot of unraveling that happens in this book) the relationship between Natalie and Wes. Let's just be honest, Wes can go jump off a cliff. I was so happy when Henry appeared and things moved faster after that. We learn a lot about the supernatural beings that exist in this world, Natalie's mom, and how everyone is connected in this book. I'm a little confused about a couple of things but it's probably just me overthinking them. Overall, I really enjoyed this book. If you like a good read with some magical elements, supernatural beings, secret societies, and hidden truths, then this series would be great for you to pick up and read. Even despite the seemingly slower progress in the beginning, this book does make for a reasonably quick read. I think it just seemed slower because I was ready to get back to Henry and didn't care for most of Wes's POV. Thank you, Melissa Cassera, for sending an eARC copy of this book. I love this little world that you've created and can't wait to find out more in the next book after that cliffy!
A very interesting world
If you read book 1 (Control) and loved the idea of Henry and Natalie, be prepared to feel very conflicted. Natalie has learned that humans are not the only thing in this world, but she cannot figure out why Henry and Wes (precogs) almost suck the life out of her with a single kiss. Since Henry left her, she is going to use Wes to be benefit - practicing kissing and no dying, while also find any information she can about what that might make her and how her mothers death might be connected.
Wes is willing to lie about anything that could take Natalie away from her. She may still have feelings for Henry, but he is the one making out with her every night to build up her tolerance. He is going to do whatever is necessary to wipe Henry from her memory. When weird things start happening at school, he has also decided that he will do anything to keep her safe, even using his assassin training to kill anyone trying to take her from him.
I am not really into fantasy stories, but there are some interesting twists in this story.
