Read this book years ago, but was just reminded of it by a friend who suggested considering retiring on a cruise ship. The per diem is less than an Assisted Living facility (fortunately not ready for that yet) excellent food, medical care...but I digress. This is cowritten by a former Captain of cruise ships and one of my favorite authors of the Travis Mcgee series. It's a fun compilation stories about cruising written from the Captain's perspective (including the tale of a woman who lived aboard except when the ship was in dry dock and I think the cruise line put her up in a hotel). Anyway, if you're interested in behind the scenes takes of cruising, albeit dated, it is a fun read. And with John MacDonald as co author, how could it not be?

Amusing chronology of a long cruise. The cruise Captain's reminiscences constitute half the book. For those who don't know him, the co-author John D. MacDonald is a well known American writer of detective novels and more.
