This tiny volume contains background information on author Arthur Conan Doyle, quotes & illustrations from the books & a concise description of some of the key books in the canon. It makes a nice introduction to the world of Sherlock Holmes for the newcomer. For someone like myself, who has read the stories many times before, it reminds me which ones I loved & that it's time to read some of them again.

A delightful wee book. Though it is a novelty item, I find it extraordinarily useful for refreshing my memory on the Sherlock Holmes novels when I want to relive or check a certain part but don't want to have to relinquish too much of my time in Reading the full story. Although you don't get the feel for Conan Doyle's writing, you get a sense of the plot and devices used. I'd say not good if you hate spoilers, but give it you're intrigued by Sherlock but aren't sure if you really want to invest in reading it properly.

Reading this just after reading the entire Sherlock collection was a fun little recap of all the stories I'd read. This will definitely give you a little overview of the key Holmes stories and grasps the basic themes of Conan Doyle's writing

A decent summation of a select group of the novels and short stories.
Kasius gives very decent, pithy run-downs. Worth it, I suppose, if you are curious about the original stories, but have no real desire to go reading them all. Not really of any value to people who have read them, as there is no insight offered, beyond the precise of each entry.

My mistake - when I picked this up I thought it was a collection of short stories, whereas in fact it's a collection of synopses. Not what I wanted, but good if that's what you're looking for

I received this as one of my birthday gifts from my son who knows I love Sherlock Holmes. This is a nice little book that does just what it says - explains the plots of the [most famous/popular] Sherlock Holmes stories in a way that they can be read in one sitting as indeed I did! It’s not a particularly remarkable book but I gave it 4 stars as it was enjoyable and the illustrations were lovely. Plus how can I not love such a thoughtful gift from a teenager? ❤️

A nice introduction into many of the Holmes stories which makes me look forward to reading the actual books, I don't worry that I have been advised of the salient points of the books I will have forgotten it all by the time I get round to reading them.

This tiny book is a great way to introduce students to the works of Sherlock in a non-threatening form. The book is 2" x 2" and holds a number of classic mysteries, as well as an introduction and a chapter on "The Life of Sherlock".

cutest lil book. now i actually want to read some of the books - holmes is really one of the most "human" characters in literature; ironic that such a cold/calculated character has inspired such passionate devotion.

The book was small and easy to read it was also a good story in general. It is also easy to carry around with you wherever you go as it fits well in a purse or even a pocket.

The book I read was a small book the size of your palm so the text was hard to read but I liked all the stories.

ব্রিটিশ মিউজিয়াম পুরোটা ভালোভাবে ঘুরে দেখতে হলে মোটামুটি তিনদিন লাগে। প্রবেশ অবাধ। ক্লায়েন্টের অফিস সেন্ট্রাল লন্ডনে টেমসের পাশেই হওয়ায় বিকেল হলেই কাজ সাঙ্গ করে বেরিয়ে পড়তাম এদিক ওদিক টহল মারতে। বিকেলের পর এমনিতেই এই দেশে সব অফিসই ফাঁকা হয়ে যায়। সন্ধে বা রাতের দিকে অফিসের বিভিন্ন কোণায় দেখা মেলে শুধু কাজপাগল ভারতীয়দের। স্বভাব যায় না মলে। সুযোগের সদ্ব্যবহার করতে আমি অবশ্য পিছপা হইনি। ব্রিটিশদের সঙ্গে গল্প করতে করতে ঠিক বিকেলেই পগারপার হয়ে যেতাম কর্মক্ষেত্রের ত্রিসীমানা থেকে। তো এইভাবেই তিনদিন পরপর সেন্ট্রাল লাইনের টিউব ধরে হলবর্ন স্টেশনে নেমে ব্রিটিশ মিউজিয়ামটা চষে ফেললাম। স্যুভেনির কিছু কিনতেই হত। তারই ফসল আজকের এই বইটি।
জেনিফার ক্যাসিয়াস-এর পকেট সিরিজের সঙ্গে অনেকেই হয়ত পরিচিত। আগাথা ক্রিস্টির পোয়ারো বা মিস মারপেল, জেন অস্টিন, বা এমন আরও কালজয়ী চরিত্র আর উপন্যাসের মিনিয়েচার এডিশন তিনি প্রকাশ করেছেন লন্ডনের রানিং প্রেস থেকে। ভারতেও পাওয়া যায় খুঁজলে। শার্লক হোমসের এই বইটিও সেইরকম একটি রত্ন। দেখলেই হাতে তুলে নিতে ইচ্ছে করবে এই বই। এত ছোট বইয়েরও যে হার্ডকভার ফর্ম্যাট বানানো যায়, বা কার্ডের মতো পেপার কোয়ালিটিতে বড় ফন্ট আর অলংকরণ রাখা যায়, তা দেখলে যে কেউ অবাক হয়ে যাবেন। আমার মেয়ে তো এটা দেখেই ভেবেছিল ওর জন্যই কেনা।
শার্লকের চরিত্রের কিছু প্রধান দিক, তার গল্পের বিখ্যাত চরিত্রদের পরিচিতি, বিবলিওগ্রাফি আর খুব বিখ্যাত বারোটা গল্পের সিনপসিস নিয়ে তৈরি এই বইটা৷ প্রথমবার শার্লক পড়ার জন্য এই বই নয়। যারা শার্লকের ফ্যান বা যারা অনেকদিন পর ঝালিয়ে নিতে চান গল্পগুলো, তারা চোখ বোলাতে পারেন এই বইতে। তবে বাচ্চাদের আগ্রহ বাড়ানোর জন্যও বইটা কিন্তু বেশ ভালোই, যদিও রহস্যের উন্মোচন হয়ে যাবে সব এই ক্ষুদ্র বইতেই।
তবে সবচেয়ে ভালো লাগল বইটার কোয়ালিটি আর লুক। সাইজ আর থিকনেস বোঝানোর জন্য বেশ কয়েকটা ছবি দিলাম। আদর্শ পকেট থ্রিলার বলতে হয়তো একেই বোঝায়। মনে হচ্ছিল আরও কয়েকটা এমন বই কিনি, কিন্তু চার পাউন্ড একটা বইয়ের জন্য বেশ ভালোই দাম। কোনোদিন বইটা হাতে নিয়ে দেখতে চাইলে আমার বাড়িতে আসতে পারেন, আমন্ত্রণ রইল। :)

Having never read any Sherlock Holmes before, this cute, little book seemed like a good idea to slowly introduce me to the world of Sherlock.
Including brief outlines of each character, this book condenses each story into beginning, middle and end, yet still manages to keep the essence of each book alive.
I've now gone from just knowing about the powers of deduction to really wanting to buy The Hound of the Baskervilles.
It's a must-read for anyone interested in Sherlock Holmes, but not sure where to start.

Fantastic little memory serve for those like me who love the stories but forget the details over time. A really cute little pocket hardback I'm pleased to see on my shelf and that feels great in your hands, especially on a cold, foggy day as it suggests.

This was a cute little collection of Sherlock Holmes stories/synopsis. We get the outline of each of the stories, a wrapup you can call it. Perfect for lovers of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle and even people who want to get into the world of Mr. Holmes!
