This was surprisingly good read. It is written in simple but effective terms and I like the way they refer to relevant websites for more information. A lot of the information confirmed what I already knew or thought was correct, but it was good to get that confirmation. One constant throughout the book that stood out to me was to drink two litres a day.

A good resource with several negative points: too many inset boxes; bizarre UK vocabulary; mistaking correlation for causation; and, worst of all, advice to "go on the lash" (i.e. get wasted) every once in a while because "it's good for you." Typical British attitude. This book is worth reading, but keep your eyes open for nonsense.

This was such a strange book. I dod believe that it contains much good info for men, and others, regarding health and especially men's health. It is written for both US and UK audiences and does a decent job of threading that needle.

But it is ..??..? Contradictory? Not perfect word for it. The main issue seems to be that the boxed text seems to be written by someone other than those who wrote the main text, and by someone who maybe hadn't fully processed the main text. For instance, in the chapter on going to the doctor a big theme is men's reluctance to do so. It includes several suggestions on how and why to overcome that resistance. And then there is an image covering bout half a page showing a gowned, gloved and masked medical worker holding a large syringe up and looking you dead in the eyes with the caption "It's difficult to see why anybody could be frightened of going to the doctor." Perhaps this is dry British humor but it is completely inappropriate in context.

A second example is on a page in the Improve your performance chapter. On a page which includes a header for a section titled "Being sad is okay" which continues on for a full page is a text box titled "Sort your life out" that ends in 'Cheer up.' I mean, I can't make this crap up.

I do think there is some value but I think it's flawed too. I'm betting there is are better books out there on men's health in both the US and the UK.

This book definitely has the rough guide part right. That's all it is, as there's too much generic information contained within and you could do better merely by using a search engine. There's some silly recommendations too, like go and get acupuncture for pain relief as it relieves "chi" pressure. Whatever.

While it's a fair primer, you could do much better in the subject of men's health with a little effort.
