Jana Cutrere is determined to start a new life. She returns home to open a wildlife rescue center but Grant Gonzales, her first high school crush and an avid hunter, opposes her at every step. Can Jana trust God with her and Grant's future or will explosive emotions and diametrically opposing views tear them apart?
This was ok. I had a hard time really liking the main girl. Just came back with her own convictions which is great but seriously she bugged me because she excepted everyone else to change for her. She is an animal lover and strongly disagrees with hunting or fishing. The guy (now i can't remember his name) wants to open a hunting camp on her grandpa's land he want to buy from her grandpa and never is sneaky about it. She wants the same land for a wild life research center but doesn't tell anyone just except her grandpa who she tries to convince him to just give it to her. Then when the sell finally goes through for the hunting camp, she feel betrayed? I also couldn't tell why the guy liked her. She was pretty, they made that clear but she always seemed mad, or up tight. He loved her compassionate heart, but those who have more tender feelings for animals then the people around you, have it back wards. I get she had a hard life, but she still seemed bitter even to the end. That was the part I had the hardest time believing. Suddenly at the end, after spending most of the book being mad at those how hunt, she wants to marry the guy and let him open his hunting camp. all because during the night she read the Bible and talked to her grandpa and agrees she can still run her research center and he can open his camp and they can work together. It just didn't make sense to me. Anyway, I did like the guy a lot and some parts were fun to read. I would give this 2 1/2 stars, but because it was clean I'm rounding up.
An entertaining story mixed with light humor, delightful romantic tension and many more-than-serious philosophical conversations between two people who long for a high school crush to become a forever love; there are just so many obstacles standing in their way. Will Jana Cutrere and Grant Gonzales ever be able to overcome their differences when they aspire to totally different versions of the exact same thing? Whose dream will get crushed in this high stakes game hunt between life and love? A conundrum of a book, leaving its readers satisfactorily puzzled until the very end.
This is a love story where one the two people is being really bull headed. It was an interesting distraction from daily life, but the stubborness got a little much. I think the author could have made it a little less one sided, especially considering the whole town was telling her to stop being so hard on the guy and give him a chance.

Since I love animals and hate hunting and my hubby's whole family is avid hunters (except my hubby) I was curious to see how this story would play out. I didn't really like Jana's character but I liked her passion for animal rescue. I did like Grant but hated his passion for hunting. The book seemed to drag on a bit, her grandpa's character a bit too clichéd, and there wasn't much romance between Jana and Grant. They were barely ever together and yet they fell in love...my pet peeve of Christian fiction. The prayers of the characters were interesting and seemed heartfelt which was refreshing. All in all it was an okay read but I don't think I will repeat reading it. I expected more humor but it was missing for the most part.
This book was well written, but the pervasive tension between the main characters made it difficult to see them getting together.
And though there were references made about Jana's background, they left more questions than answers. I could sympathize with her, but I didn't like her. More character development mightve changed that.
Jana Cutrere's plans are clear cut. Return home to Vancleave, Mississippi. Obtain property from her grandfather to start a wildlife rescue center. Make a fresh start and a better life for herself and her two children, Ty and LeeLee.
Grant Gonzalez, having recently abandoned the corporate circus, has also come home to Vancleave - with the sole purpose of starting a hunting camp. The property he has earmarked for his dream is none other than that Jana wants for her wildlife center. But good old Grandpa's taking his own sweet time making a decision. Will the old man carry through with his half-promise to sell the land to Grant, or deed it to his widowed granddaughter, though he has no sympathy for her purpose?
While the adults hurry up and wait, the kids fall in love with Grant, even as they wrap him around their little fingers. Jana's own wounded heart shows unsettling signs of response, but she firmly quells its silly stirrings. How can a relationship between her and Grant ever work? He hunts and kills the animals she loves and feels morally bound to protect. Besides, the two of them are vying for Grandpa's property with wildly opposite goals in mind.
The only thing they seem to have in common is their allegiance to God - and even in that arena, they both have lessons to learn. Will they trust Him enough to let Him work things out for them? Or will rampant emotions and stubborn wills destroy their chance at love?
Fair Game is a frolicking adventure through a down-home paradise of sometimes friendly, sometimes feuding folks and furry friends. From crotchety old Grandpa to adorable little LeeLee, the characters live and breathe. This is masterful storytelling that readers won't soon forget - nor will they wish to. Elizabeth White's aim is unerring - she definitely hit the bull's-eye with this one!
I really enjoyed this book. It is a sweet story about a man and a woman with very different beliefs about wildlife/hunting, but they work out their differences in a Godly way. I loved how both characters were often turning to prayer and to God for help with their lifes/issues. The overall message of this book was great and I look forward to reading more by this author.
A great book! Shows you how the belief and power of God can truely change someone and make things better as well as having chose the wrong path in life only to turn your choice around to make it right. Great love story :)
