You can't choose the raw material, but you can decide how you're going to use it. Many people don't do that." it hit me so hard. karena pas banget lagi ada problem cukup kompleks di keluargaku yang bikin gedeg dan membuat aku mempertanyakan, kenapa harus ada di keluarga yang seperti ini? gimana ya kalau ternyata aku lahir di keluarga yang, menurut standarku, adalah ideal dan bisa jadi katalis atas segala mimpi-mimpiku. tapi ya... apa sih gunanya terus-terusan menggugat hal yang udah jadi kenyataan? I have the power. I have free will. It's about focusing my goal and purpose.
"To get better at doing hard things, you need to do hard things."
The most privilege take on Grit I've ever read. I will recommend chapters 4, 6, & 7, but you can probably skip the rest. I expected better.
Chapt. 6 Pg. 69 "Not giving up can mean that people persist even when they have nothing to gain." Pg. 70 "So while it might be valuable to persist with worthwhile and rewarding tasks, people who don't quit often continue with worthless tasks that are both uninteresting and unrewarding, ultimately wasting their time and talent." Pg. 71 "Being unwilling to let go can lead to people being perpetually dissatisfied -- even when they end up getting what they wanted." Pg. 72 "People who tend to be tenacious are also those who get trapped into losing courses of action."
I like this series. I don’t have a lot of time these days for listening to books, but I tend to lean towards listening to non fiction books. That being said, I prefer them to be quick.
This entire HBR Emotional Intelligence series has each one less than two hours, which fits into my busy lifestyle.
There are a compilation of multiple articles and voices on what Grit is. It’s entertaining and keeps my attention.
These are not super in-depth but rather a 30,000 level view of the topic.
I expected more from a harvard business review. I did not expect the quality of the content to be so low, so generic and hard to implement. It does not contain anything useful or anything that sticks other than the fact that the entire content and wisdom of the book is literally the description of grit from the first website when you search. I don't think this book offer any wisdom. It's a combination of stiching multiple articles, interviews together.
Like every HBR Book, this too is a collection of various articles forced together into one book.
I would rate this quite low. Only saving grace for this book is one specific article on the negative aspects of grit. Other than this, there is literally nothing in this book to learn. Big advice to HBR is to stop forcing multiple articles into a book. Don’t waste your time on this.
Good for people who just started to understand Grit. However, it is too packed on every chapter - best to read the books of Authros mentioned on each chapter.
