DEATH IS NOT ALWAYS THE END

It's the '50s and Richard Saussure could have sworn he'd heard it all between his career as a police officer and his current PI business...

Then a man walks in saying he is 213 years old.

Lord Hurlingthon wants to die, but he cannot no matter what he tries. The worst part, he doesn’t understand why. As a last effort, he reaches out to the only person who can’t say no to his cry for help. Detective Richard Saussure has never walked away from an unsolved case. If anyone can help, Richard Saussure has the reputation and the results Lord Hurlingthon needs.

But how do you solve a mystery that defies all laws of nature?

Maybe with the help of your enemy. It is not something Richard is eager to employ, but Doctor Annette Kensington has the skills and the passion for justice he needs. If only she did not completely loathe him...

Can Detective Saussure convince her to put aside their differences for the sake of justice, or will this be the case he fails to solve? If Lord Hurlingthon is going to have a chance to die, they better work fast.

Supernatural thriller is a spot on description of this fine mystery. I'd give it 5 stars but for the excessive 'cutsie' verbiage throughout that tends to give the impression the author is trying to impress the reader with her vocabulary. It's annoying in excess. The other flaw is the druid fantasy ability to change the woods surrounding her. Even with these flaws, the twists and turns and the surprises leaked out through the story make it a great read. The characters are well developed, in come cases too much, and the protagonist is stereotypical.
I'd recommend the book as it is a good page turner.

A thoroughly enjoyable story with unique situations and a familiar tone which I personally like (noir-ish) as well as a pace that keeps the reader engrossed in the plot. The characters are well developed, very visual scenes, and reader can find a great tale packed into a short story. The protagonist is reminiscent of a hard boiled detective gone rogue as detective, but then the reader is also introduced to his sensitive side as well, and as a reader felt for this pining widower who keeps moving forward. Tenacious. I believe more stories follow and I look forward to paging through then all. Well done, I recommend the story.

Plot wise, this book is brilliant, it is unique, it makes a kinda weird sense even when dealing with the paranormal and it kept me glued to the page.

The story, the detective, the world building, the dialogue all is brilliant.

For those who loves the genre and needs a novel with a well....novel approach and a fresh take, then this my friend is the book for you.

It could do with a bit more editing, thus my 4 star rating. Again, if you want a fresh approach to the genre with a twist of the paranormal then THIS is the BOOK for you.

BOOK DESCRIPTION:
Set in 1952, Private Detective Richard Saussure is hired to solve the mystery of why Lord Hugh Hurlingthon can’t die. Pulling Saussure out of his comfort zone, 213-year-old Lord Hurlingthon challenges the detective, and Saussure isn’t going to back down. His reputation is to always solve the case, after all.

In this dark paranormal mystery, Richard Saussure will have to dig deep into his own past and ask for the help of his favorite enemy: Dr. Annette Kensington, a forensic doctor whose thirst for justice equals her despise for Saussure.

MY REVIEW:

‘Immortal Bones’ is an interesting take on immortality, morality, and family.

Trinidad Giachino has crafted characters with bold and distinct personalities. Detective Saussure is sassy, witty, and just enough of a jerk to make you like him. Dr. Annette Kensington gives him back exactly what he gives her. Their relationship is a delightful exchange of insults combined with respect.

Lord Hurlingthon is a soft and sympathetic character. From the onset of his claim to of immortality, I believed him. Giachino’s vibrant description of his corpse-like appearance further solidified his believability.

I felt like the ending was a bit rushed compared to the pacing of the rest of the novel. Also, I hope the druid makes appearances in future novels, otherwise I didn’t feel like that storyline was quintessential to the plot.

Overall, I found this book to be an enjoyable read.

Immortal Bones: A supernatural thriller (Detective Saussure Mysteries Book 1)
by Trinidad Giachino

First, let me say that the author is from Argentina, which I believe probably accounts for the stiffness, unnaturalness of the English translation -- which is one of the main reasons why this book is rated only a 3.

Trinidad Giachino calls the series of which this is the first entry a "horror book series for adults." Hmm. I found nothing that I would call "horror" about it. I also found nothing terrifying, nothing putting the main characters in danger, nothing making me wish I was reading in the daytime instead of the wee hours of the morning. And that's the other half of the equation which reduced this book to just 3 stars.

Other than the odd sentence structure and stiffness of text, the author did a very good job of describing surroundings, fleshing out characters, setting scenes, and all the other things that I look for when I'm rating a book. The mystery was a good one, albeit not a dangerous or terrifying one. While I had a theory about how the mystery came to be that was close to the author's plot, close doesn't count except in horseshoes, so I still had a surprise coming toward the end.

So, yes, it was a good book and I enjoyed it. No, I won't be reading any more in this series.

Me encantó.

Detective Saussure is an ex-cop and currently a private detective. His latest client is a 213 year old man who is unable to die and wants desperately to know why. The investigation leads into a very strange world. I have never heard of this author before, but am very glad that I found her. She has a beautiful way with words, even while describing the trivial. I read this as IMMORTAL BONES, although Goodreads has this named as UNDEAD.

Thoroughly enjoyed the story. What I didn't like was the over use of metaphor, simile and many unnecessary adjectives. I didn't think the " amusing " quips from the detective added anything, in fact he sounded cruel. However, the last part of the story was much better written from that perspective. It seemed like the author was at last, trying to tell the story rather than experiment with language. Not an edge of your seat story, but an unusual and enjoyable one.

Immortal Bones ( (un) dead ) book #1 by Trinidad Giachino is a Paranormal Thriller that will take you on a journal with your beliefs of good vs. evil. Retired Detective Richard Saussure was hired to find out why a very very wealthy man cannot die. The case takes Saussure to places he doesn't want to go to. For him this case will put his faith into question. A must read book for any one who loves a good Paranormal Suspense Thriller.

Good not perfect

I have so far enjoyed this storyline with a supernatural twist.
I would have liked more information on the characters, more detailed. It came over a bit plain for a detective. I found the details on the case good but the end has been rushed and not dramatic enough.

A good suspense.

I enjoyed this story. This is a good supernatural suspense mystery. Saussure searched for the reason the man cannot die. The plot is good, and the characters are well-written. I never expected the solution to the investigation. There are surprises in the story.

In the footsteps of Bram Stoker?

The aura created In "Immortal Bones" reminded me very much of "Dracula," but I actually enjoyed this story by Trinidad Giachino much more. I thought her turn of phrase was captivatingly vivid, making it easy to visualize what the protagonist was seeing, such as "looking at the naked trees or at the hard land as it was being stripped of her green summer dress and forced to cover dherself up with a brown turtleneck sweater."
Stoker wrote with heavy Christian overtones, and the characters' strong faith was integral to the solution to their mystery. Giachino is obviously not proposing any Christian answers to the mystery that Detective Saussure is attempting to solve, in fact, she dismisses God with a wave of her pen. Even though I operate from a strong base of Christian faith, I understand that many people who have no trouble embracing mysticism, have great difficulty grappling with the non-physical aspects of death according to Christian spiritual concepts.
I didn't really feel that enough back story came out about Saussure to make me curious and wanting to get to know him better, however, I am pondering the purchase of more Saussure mysteries to get to know Giachino's writing better. We'll see.
