The world will end on August 22, 3100. August 10, 3100. A dangerous ideology has spread across the globe. Touted as the salvation for all, a bold new plan is set to commence in twelve days, with the promise of creating a complete and lasting peace for all the peoples of the world. But only a few know the truth of this plan, and how it will bring forth a cataclysmic event unmatched by any disaster in history. And of these few, only President John Renton can do anything to stop it. But very powerful and corrupt people support the plan, and they will do whatever they can to stand in his way, even if it means innocent people have to die. With the lives of his family, his country, and the entire world, at stake, will the president be able to succeed, or is the world fated to destroy itself in the name of peace?
I've must have read thousands and thousands of books in my life. Of these, I can think of about 5 I have not completed. Now there are six. The premise of the book is farcical. The writing is boring, I must have just scanned about 3/4 of the book looking for something interesting. A book of this type does not need as much character development as was attempted here. And I do mean attempted because none of the people in the book are interesting, I felt no empathy for them and didn't care what happened to them. The dialogue I did read was unbelievable bad. The youngest son speaks and has the wisdom and humor of a50 year old and he is only 8.
Finally, there is a WWII P-51 that comes to the rescue. This plane, now over a thousand years old in this story universe, manages to fly from Washington to New York in what appears to be minutes (when the plane could maybe go 500mph depending on the engine) and is able to avoid being shot down by super sonic fighters and just happens to have munitions onboard that can defeat 32nd century armour. I don't think so.
Well written story that held my interest with unexpected twists and turns! HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS BOOK becayse it is action packed with conversation that flows appropriately.
I think my actual rating for this would be 2 1/2--it was OK but I'm not sure I would go as far as saying I liked it. The story, which is book one in the Twelve Days Series, all takes place on Friday, August 10, 3100. The President of the United States, John Renton, has just announced to the nation that in 12 days, the world as they have always known it, will be ending. He talks about the Global Reorganization Plan (GRP) and how it will work. He lets the nation know that loss of life will be significant but since he is still hoping to prevent GRP he doesn't mention everything that may happen. The premise of the story certainly shows promise and the first day is certainly action packed--I may even read the next book to see if, as the author stated, it is better but there were some editing problems and my own personal opinion is that the characters seemed a little one dimensional.
The title tells you that this is only "book one", but I was surprised when the story ended so abruptly. Even though this book is set in the future (year 3100), and I am NOT a sci-fi fan AT ALL, I was immediately caught up in the story of President John Renton and his struggles to save the USA, and the world, from the evil plans of Warren Adlar. Very intense book with a lot of sub-plots and secondary stories of love, romance, deceit and double dealings, but very engaging and it will definitely keep your interest. The book ends on a cliffhanger that will definitely have you searching for "book two" to find out what happens next. (As far as I can tell, "book two" has not yet been written - bummer!)
The title is 12 Days and this book only covered the first day. Does that mean there are 11 more books to come? The story is interesting but I'm not sure it was enough to keep me interested in eleven more volumes.
Definitely an interesting read. I can't wait to read more into the series. I need more history on this president in the book and everything, cause right now I'm confused in a few areas.
An interesting story with many characters who just started to evolve and grow. I would definately be interested in reading book to and see where the story goes
It was ok...not intriguing enough for me to want to read book two. Sometimes the dialouge between the characters is unbelievable. Cheesy at times...I wasn't thrilled.
