An essential guide for anyone with an interest in body therapy, this book contains an exploration of the connections between Eastern and Western beliefs about health and the human body, based on the concept of energy as a fundamental force in nature. This hidden energy theory incorporates facets of Chinese acupuncture and Hindu yoga, while establishing that Western medical knowledge actually validates these ancient Eastern insights. Dr. Smith explains how health care practitioners can access this energy through their hands, feel its existence, and see a person's response to the movements.
I had to read Inner Bridges: A Guide to Energy Movement and Body Structure for my Acupuncture Master's program as a requirement for our Zero-Balancing course. If you have an interest in energy medicine and bodywork, this book is a great introduction to the practice of Zero-Balancing. My favorite part of the book was how Frederick Smith laid out the Bridges of Response and included some areas of caution. Inner Bridges gave me a high-level understanding of this type of energy medicine and did leave me wanting to dive deeper into understanding the technical practice. For me, this was a quick read as I was on a homework deadline. I do feel could go back and sit with some of the information a bit longer and re-read a few of the sections to better understand the laid-out concepts. Inner Bridges was nicely formatted allowing to build off the foundation of some concepts with the technical aspects of the medicine built-in. Frederick Smith provided experiential anecdotes that made the concepts feel grounded in material reality and accessible.
