من الروايات التي شعرت برغبة في الاحتفاظ بنسخة ورقية منها في مكتبتي..
رواية كلاسيكية جميلة، أجدد من خلالها تأكيد حبي واستمتاعي بأي عمل يتناول بشكل عميق وخاص المشاعر النسائية مثل تلك التي تدور حولها الرواية، فالبطلة مجهولة الاسم تحدّث نفسها بما تحسه من فراغ في حياتها كمرافقة لامرأة غنية، ثم تشعر بالخوف في حياتها الجديدة من امرأة قوية غير موجودة لكنها تشعر بالصغار أمامها من خلال السخرية في أعين الخدم والشفقة في وجه الأصدقاء الجدد وحتى في قائمة الطعام التي بقيت على حالها منذ كانت تلك المرأة في البيت الذي يفترض أنه أصبح ملكًا للبطلة.
قبل قراءة الرواية لم أتوقف كثيرًا أمام ثقل شعور المقارنة بين امرأة وأخرى وكيف يكون تأثيره على المرأة الأضعف في الرواية نجرب جرعة مكثفة من هذا الشعور تبدأ من اسم الرواية مرورًا بعدم ذكر اسم البطلة والاكتفاء باسم الأخرى، وصولًا إلى محاولات كثيرة من تلك التي لا اسم لها لإثبات حضورها في قصتها الشخصية.

It's the short story. So obviously, details are reduced.
But it makes me want to read the full story.
The story makes me absolutely shocked at the end.
Because it is the short story, so it lacks so many important clues.
And we don't even know much about Rebecca.
We don't know much about Maxim.
Of course, the one we know the thoughts is always the narrator.
Which it isn't enough for me, I want more details from the major characters, too.
But on the whole, it is great.
And it stimulates me to read this. (Which I had seen the book in the library, but didn't pick it up because I didn't know it. It's time to read one!)

Reading this with my intermediate-high-level ESL student. Very well written for this fluency level. We are both loving it!
