I am a fan of Geronimo Stilton's books. They not only hilarious but also captivating. It is very compulsive that I have to read it in one go.
Geronimo's grandfather, William Shortpaws, also known as Cheap Mouse William, has gave Geronimo a task to search for the Red Bandit in Arizona and bring back the hat from the Red Bandit he had as a friendship bonding. And Trap's accompanying him throughout the journey and....he's a pain in the neck for Geronimo Stilton. And Poppy, the guide would pronouce Stilton's name wrong as always. Haha. Funny

Geronimo Stilton goes to Sedona, Arizona. He goes to find the Red Bandit for a falcon feather and
a red bandanna, he had to also get a cowboy hat from the Silver Cactus, a shop in Sedona. If Geronimo fails his grandfather [William Shortpaws ] would have him by the whiskers.

1. Categories/Genres for this class fulfilled by this book. Series/fantasy/middle grades
2. Copyright date: 2014
3. Estimate of age level of interest: grades 3-6
4. Estimate of reading level: 3.3

5. Brief description: Geronimo travels to Arizona to get replace a hat his grandfather purchased there. Weighed down by a giant jar of chocolate, he reluctantly sets off on his adventure in Sedona.

6. Identify at least 2 characteristics of this genre and subgenre and discuss how they appear in your book.
-Pieces of series always stay the same. Here, Geronimo Stilton never ages. Plus, reading level, length, and covers remain consistent throughout this series.
-Animal fantasy: Readers see his determination, bravery, and love for his family and can relate to those human characteristics.

7. In what ways and how well does the book as a whole serve its intended audience?
Middle grades: Certain words stand out with different fonts and colors (related often to the word's meaning); this playful design will engage struggling readers. However, certain words are misspelled-playfully- but this could be a challenge for some readers. For example, the jar of chocolate is "enormouse." Vibrant drawings will help readers engage in the text and show how text and pictures relate.

This was a good read! I read it to my 7 and 5 year old boys and they truly enjoyed Geronimo’s adventures in this story! I don’t like how cruel and bossy Geronimo’s grandfather is, and how Geronimo works so hard doing things he doesn’t want to out of fear of his grandfather. However I love that Geronimo is so kindhearted, and braver than he gives himself credit, and that he is a good sport, generous and teaches some good life lessons. He is a really good mouse, and I love that my kids love his stories so much!!

Geronimo went for an adventure to Sedona, Arizona. He has faced a lot of challenges to find Red Bandit, his grandfather’s friend. He learnt that the key of happiness is the simple life in harmony with nature and surrounded by the people he loves.

This books also values the long-last friendship between the grandfathers and Red Bandit. How they still cherished the friendship even though they rarely see each other.

The quest was an odd one, and poor Geronimo has mishap upon mishap trying to fulfill it -- while transporting a giant jar of chocolate cheese spread. Spoiler: The title is misleading; the "Red Bandit" is not a bandit, nor does he fly, or flee.
The book explains and promotes the Grand Canyon area and the state of Arizona. The Red Bandit, a contented old-timer, finds the key to Happiness in living a peaceful life in tune with nature, surrounded by family.

I read this together with my beginner ESL class. It is definitely one good way to get them to start reading as there are so many colourful pictures. It is meant to be a story for children so some goofiness is expected. We also learned a lot because the book has a lot of pictures with labels explaining different things. The text also uses a lot of similes so we could imagine better what they're trying to convey. Recommended for learners.

Definitely not as thrilling of a read at 21 years old as it was when I was 8, but these books really know their audience. As far as Geronimo Stilton volumes go, though, I still wouldn't say this one is number 1 (I mean, come on, there was one with underwater treasure. That's hard to beat), but it's still pretty funny and entertaining.

I’ve never really thought about Arizona beings good place to travel. I’m not one for extreme heat at all. But this adventure just might have convinced me to brave the ungodly temperatures to see the natural beauty that Arizona has to offer.
