It's an old book (or atleast my copy of it is), but it's wonderfully written. I love the tone and the great stories they tell. It's not all just doom and gloom. The illustrations are amazing. Detailed and beautiful in their specifics. Great for a history lover or people who love pretty pictures... like me! :)

Very dated at this point, having come out in 1976, and it has some inaccuracies (including at least one disappearance that really wasn't LOL), but still, it's a fun and interesting read. Getting to read some of the original news stories, illustrations, and photos of the time, in particular, is fascinating, and it does form a nice starting point to finding some disasters often overlooked by other compilations.
