Eva Gray lives in Chicago and enjoys reading, cooking, and camping. Though she doesn't expect to need them in the near future, Eva keeps lots of extra batteries for her flashlight and a stock of canned food in her pantry.

This series is most certainly one of the best I've ever readi love her use of language and the idea is amazing! Reading it from Evelyn's point of view in this Changed my whole view of the series! I was so excited right at the en because I was hoping Evelyn and Alonso would become a couple and then I was just depressed at the ending! Where are they! Why Eva!?Why!!!? I am dying to read set me free because if I don't I might lose it. I have thoroughly enjoyed the series so far and can't wait for a big ending in set me free :D
According to Barnes & Noble, the age for this book is 10-14 years. It might actually be a couple of years below that. This book is extremely easy to read.
There are 4 books in the series and each is told from a different character's point of view. That doesn't bother me but the seeming change in personality of the characters from book to book does. I understand that each book is a completely different perspective, but it comes across as implausible when a very rough character in one book becomes so nice, reassuring and vulnerable in such a short period of time.
Things come about way too easily. For example, when one character is thinking he or she should do something, another character says or does it as if she was reading the first character's mind. That actually happens a lot in this series of books.
The kids seem to get out of difficult situations very easily. A lot seems to fall into place almost everywhere they go. The cavalry always comes in. Someone blacks out and when she wakes up, everything is solved. Situations like that are also common throughout the series.
The premise of the book is very interesting but the execution is a bit lacking and quite unbelievable. For an 8-10 year old, it may be on the spot. For that age it may be exciting, but for an adult, it is unreasonable. The only reason I finished is because I wanted to see how it ended. The only reason I gave the series 3 stars is because it may be a good read for children.
I like how it's titled "With the Enemy" but they're not even in enemy territory 'till the last few chapters.
If you read my previous reviews, you know that this series has a special place in my heart along with an interesting and cute backstory. If not, look at my first review. I'm way too lazy to recap it every time.
Sadly much to my dismay of my #2 book review, my girl Evelyn DID NOT in fact pick up the slack. Eva Gray thinks it's cool and hip to make every female main character in this series have a male love interest. Which now that I think about it, that's a pretty sexist message to be sending to middle schoolers. This book is called Tomorrow Girls, not Tomorrow Boys, or Tomorrow Girls & Boys. Again like my second review, these characters are in a war torn country destroyed by climate change superstorms. There's children soldiers for both sides , and secret brainwashing camps everywhere. Is this really the right time to be having crushes when you're constantly fighting to survive? That's why book #3 is 4 stars just like book #2. Before anyone gets on my case, this was exactly my same thoughts when I read "Run for Cover" at grade 5. Sure some young girls will love the romance subplot, but not all readers will. I distinctly remember getting pissed off at how much of a hypocrite Rosie was. At first I was on her side because she didn't trust the boys nor cared for silly crushes. Eventually though she fell for the damn trap and started liking Drew, which ticked 5th grader me off. Can we please have stories with some girls being independent? It would have been fine if it was just Louisa and Ryan, but the fact Eva Gray had to include a boy for each girl is insane and definitely on purpose. We all know Maddie's going to fall for either Jonah or Troy, and either way I don't care.
I still adore the development and growth for each girl, the way their friendships grow together is just so heartwarming. Yet it's a double edged sword, since we can't get a story about 4 girls surviving a war together without 4 dudes being added in for drama. In other notes, the first few chapters of Evelyn's POV gives me major autistic vibes. The way she describes her questions, worries, and relationship with her family gives her a very neurodivergent type of view. Especially with the way her friends treat her and push her aside early in their developments. As a diagnosed autistic person, I relate to this small insight of her and wish it was expanded on. Don't worry Evelyn, I'll always headcanon you as autistic no matter what people say.
Can't wait to finish the series I wanted to read since 2011! So hyped either way, let's go Maddie let's go!
This was actually the first one I read, not really realizing what I was doing. But I think I liked it the best -- a real-deal on the run adventure. I liked how they all had to work together, and I think Evelyn was my favorite character out of the four; she seemed to be the quietest but also the smartest. Breaking into the school was great, and connecting with the Resistance, and learning who Maddie was, all that was great. Nice cliffhanger ending too.
I read this book when I was in about 5th grade, and loved it. It's what started my love for reading. I read all 4 books in the series, and even had a few of my friends read it. They liked it as well.
Fleshed out these would be great reads. They're still echoing TWTWB however. Trip in the back of the truck. Livestock let out for a diversion. Rescuing someone from the clutches of the bad people. Now they're off to find a parent.
i really enjoyed tomorrow girls " with the enemy " because it keeps the mystery going and keeps the reader or me curious. i would recommend this book to another student or classmate because it's just all around a good book. but i recommend reading the first two before this one. one lingering question i have is why did the other side of the war alliance choose Maddy ? one important lesson i learned from this story is to be thankful for the friends i have & trust them even if i think they may be wrong. if i could change one thing about this book it would be to go back and get the night vision goggles so they can see in the dark and keep going. one thing that i was not expecting was for the two kids to come and put them in head locks and ask them questions because i thought it was the alliance. in conclusion i think everybody should read the 4 or 5 books Eva Gray has written because they make me want to read more.

With the Enemy is book three in the Tomorrow Girls series, and begins right where book two, Run for Cover, ended. This series is about four young girls, Louisa, Evelyn, Maddie, and Rosie, who were sent to a boarding school to keep them safe during a war between the United States and the Alliance, which happened after natural disasters destroyed part of the United States. However the girls soon learned that the school was secretly run by the Alliance and successfully escaped, joining up with three boys from the nearby boys' school. However, just when they were almost home, Maddie was kidnapped, and the other kids think she was taken by agents of the Alliance.
Each book is narrated by a different girl, and this time the narrator is Evelyn, who has always loved conspiracy theories and was suspicious of their school from the start. So now that Maddie has been kidnapped, Evelyn must take the lead in searching for her. When she learns Maddie is being held in an Alliance facility, the kids must come up with a plan to free up.
The books in this series are fun, quick reads that are a good choice for younger readers not yet ready to read young adult dystopian novels. There is less background information than in books for older readers - I'm still a bit frustrated that there are no explanations for what caused the war and who the Alliance is. But I have enjoyed reading about the chararacters and am looking forward to reading the final book in the series, Set Me Free, which will be published in November 2011.
This book is amazing for only 230 pages and I could read it forever. There are 6 main characters. Evelyn is the mastermind of the group and she has crazy theories that might just lead them to there mission being completed. Louisa is a very shy girl who is upsetted by the mishaps of what has happened. Rosie is the unspoken leader of the group who keeps peace, until now. She blames herself for the mishaps and has had the shock of her life so Evelyn rises up to her place. Drew, Alonso, and Ryan are the three additions who have also escaped and have teamed up with the girls I don't know about them yet. I only gave it 4 stars because it was an amazing book that lives up to the standerds but I felt like something was missing, I don't know what but I just didn't feel like the book was completed all of the way. This book was special, it not only reminded me that humans are distructibale creatures but also we are creatures who care for our own and for others, that we are different and that we can change to adapt unlike many other unlucky creatures who die because they can't adapt like we do. I felt like the ending was perfect for a series and that the author made it so that you can't help but to ant more, to read the next chapter in the young childerens life.
Each book in this series continues to raise the bar. As with the second book the story line was interesting and suspenseful. The reader continues to learn new things about the characters and the characters continue to develop. However, as soon as the second book introduced the three boys I was worried that this book would delve to much into the relationships of them and the girls. If I was in middle school like the attended audience I might would even like that but seeing as I'm not,I was dreading for crushes to take the main focus of the story. I figured that unfortunately this book would focus a lot on the drama of 13 year old "love" since the author wrote out Maddie, the 7th wheel, for the majority of the book which would leave us with three couples. I was happy that this wasn't the case. The survival story did not take a back seat to middle school romance. This aspect of the story was not cheesy and was actually what I would consider realistic. Of course it was there to some degree but it did not distract from or over power the story of trying to survive and escape in this war stricken society.
This book was ok but I felt as if it is too easy for me. Which I think might be why I get bored easily with it . There is not too much action in it, it seems like the story is just like other action stories. You know you have the character and then something happens to the character so the other character or the characters friends try to safe thrm from something evil. Next thing you know the characters friends find them and helps then main character to get safe but then fights with their enemies. After that they all go back to were the belong and are safe and sound. Back at their own environment. I do give the author props for make it different by in each book there is a different characters prospective which then gives the reads the characters thoughts. But this book should have like more surprising moments where the reader can be like omg!!when they read it. I think the author should have tried to put bigger and less simpler words instaead of using words that my nine year-old brother knows and he's not to smart.
Although readable as a stand-alone story, this third book in the Tomorrow Girls series is more enjoyable and far easier to understand when read after books 1 and 2 in the series. Each book is narrated by a different character. This one is told by Evelyn, who at first had been considered paranoid by her roommates and friends. When they found out that some of her fears were true, the others have started listening to her.
As Evelyn and her friends hike toward the partially-destroyed city of Chicago, they make plans to find a library. It sounds easy, because there used to be so many of them. But with violent storms, war, and gangs, most buildings have been so damaged that they are unusable. Dangerous gangs patrol the perimeter, and Alliance police are just as deadly. Then a car pulls up, men grab Maddie, and drive away. How can the group of teens find their kidnapped friend?
This is a good book so far. I am already reading on Chapter Two. I am on Page 26. Evelyn, Louisa, Rosie, and the three guys are on there way to Chicago to save Maddie from the Alliances. The story started where the second book Run For Cover ended. I am enjoying the story. I am almost to chapter three now. I been waiting to read this book. I ordered it!!! I got it yesterday. I started reading With The Enemy right away. I love the Tomorrow Girls Series. The best series I have read so far.
EVA GRAY if you are going to read this review on this book. I am going to tell you I am a big fan of your Tomorrow Girls series. I wish this series would become a movie. I am going to say to you right now. You have a good Imagination. You wrote the story really well.
This was an awesome story. Really good!!! I enjoyed the story. It was awesome how they saved Maddie from The Phoenix school. How she finds out her mom is the leader of the Resistance.
A couple of weeks ago, I read the book series "Tomorrow Girls" in English without using a dictionary. It has a 4-book series and 4 different main character speak in the each different book. So, when I started reading the second one, I really got confused because in the second one, the main character was different from the first book.
The book series was so interesting that I couldn't put down my Kindle, and I finished reading all of them for 2 weeks. The story belongs to the near future novel and 13 year-old teenaged 4 girls save the world. While surviving the world, they try to save the world and you can enjoy reading their growing processes. You can feel as if you are with them. There are full of thrill.
Although each book was fun, my favorite one is the first book and I like the main character of the book. The book series help me improving my reading speed a lot. The books series became the best books ever for me in this year!
I literally just finished this books, like five minutes ago. Now I am very excited to move onto the last one. I think that this book is very good for the younger generation of dystopian readers. I mean, not to young. It's not as graphic and it doesn't go into as much detail as The Hunger Games for example. So far, I love this entire series. I really like how they all seem to end with cliff hangers and there are surprises at the end of every chapter. I really enjoyed the romance that goes on between Alonzo and Evelyn and also between Ryan and Louisa. I like Helen and Troy particularly, because it wasn't until the end of the book that I realized their names. It's like Helen and Troy, no, Hellen of Troy as in the greek myths. They also go onto use the mythical creature, the Phoenix, in the book as well. I would recommend this book to readers around the ages of eleven, twelve, or thirteen maybe. I really think that if you are into dystopian stuff, that you would really like this.
Some youth books I'm inclined to finish the series just for the sake of getting it over with. But this series was enjoyable that I was actually looking forward to the next book.
Good youth fiction. It was a really easy read but still interesting. Great for the 10-13 age set. I appreciate that while it hinted at boy/girl drama, it never got out of hand. The girls are young and they were characterized in an age appropriate way. A few of the girls "like-like" (as opposed to just "like" boys, but nothing significant comes of it. The story keeps the focus on the girls (where it should be at this age level).
This is one of the best books ever. This time, Evelyn is narrator. This continues on as Maddie has been captured and they are trying to rescue her. First, Maddie, Louisa, Evelyn, and Rosie's parents send them to CMS, where they think the girls will be safe. Then, in book 2, Rosie is narrator and the girls escape from CMS and meet 3 guys from the other CMS manor. They find out CMS is a sleeper cell controlled by the Alliance. Maddie is captured by the Alliance. In this book, Maddie has been captured and the rest of the group is trying to rescue her. At the end of book 3 they receive some shocking news, that flips everything upside down!
So far this is not my favorite of the series. Mostly it's just the stuff that happens in the end when they find Maddie. I don't want to spoiler anything, but it felt like her character somehow veered off into left field. Also, I think I'm just so used to YA instead of Middle Grade...I feel like this whole book could have taken a lot longer. Like the journey to get to Maddie could have taken weeks or months instead of the short time it did. Not a bad thing--just could have seen more of the middle section and still liked it just as much if not more. Still an interesting series so far, though!
