The Beginning - Bundle 1

Rate this book
Welcome to the world of Vampire Assassin League, where the contract is just the beginning. In VAL there’s no line a vampire won’t cross to secure a true mate once found. Only death can separate them….

Set One: The Beginning contains the following novellas:

KNIGHT AFTER NIGHT: Scot laird Thoran MacKettryck has met his mate, after years of bitter longing and endless existence. He expected someone more experienced; a little less quick with her tongue; a bit more agreeable. What he got was his perfect match – Jolie Pritchard.

BE STILL MY HEART: Sasha Stroyanovich is pure killing machine. There isn’t a man out there safe from her relentless need for vengeance. She hasn’t got a heart. She hasn’t got a dream. She hasn’t got anything other than hate. And then she tries to kill Dr. Stuart Findlay.

DEARLY BELOVED: Dominick Miklos St Guis is a recluse. A shadow. Killing and draining blood without leaving a trace. It’s his signature. Until something goes terribly wrong and he winds up with a captive who came very close to killing him. And for that, Courtney Dwyer is paying…

WE ARE GATHERED: Tristan Navarre Invaris died a crusader knight - a warrior steeped in lessons learned at the end of a sword blade. He’s got everything under control as VAL’s Innovation Specialist. And then something goes awry as the one thing he can’t fathom enters his tightly controlled world: A female. Rori. His mate.

Jackie Ivie was born and raised in a suburb outside Utah's capital, beautiful Salt Lake City. The second in a family of four daughters and one son, Jackie was constantly amusing her siblings with her invented games, escapades, and stories. And she was always reading. She would even walk the family dog, with one hand holding the leash, while the other held the ever-present book. No subject went unread, but once she discovered Historical Romances, there was no doubting her favorite genre.

Jackie has always been the busy type, rarely sitting still without being occupied in at least one activity, and usually more. When she was younger, it was nothing to find her watching television, while doing her homework, listening to music, crocheting like a madwoman, and reading, all at the same time.

After graduating, Jackie gained secure employment with a large service company and relocated with her growing family to the neighboring, sparsely-populated state of Wyoming. She then spent several years enjoying the wildlife, scenery, and open space that Wyoming is known for. In addition to writing, Jackie is an accomplished artist in several mediums, preferring mixed media. She has several pictures in print and has exhibited in art showings throughout the West. There was never anything she loved doing more than reading, however, and once she discovered the thrill involved with putting her own words and fantasies on paper there was no stopping her.

In 2001, Jackie and her family took a huge step and moved to the largest state of the nation; Alaska. Although it was her job that brought her here, Jackie has grown to love this land of amazing contrasts, breathtaking vistas, and the ever-present resident, the Alaskan moose. There's nothing else like it, and the very long days of summer lend themselves to hours and hours of energizing tasks, while the long winter nights are just right for her real love...writing.

Jackie has now written thirteen novels and is continually starting more. The thrill of writing has now been enhanced by seeing her actual story in print. Lady of the Knight is her first published work. It will be followed by Tender is the Knight scheduled for release this summer.

I wrote individual reviews for the four novellas. If you want to read longer reviews for each of them individually, go to: Knight after Night, Be Still My Heart, Dearly Beloved, and We Are Gathered.

Overview:
Knight After Night: 4 stars
Be Still My Heart: 3 stars
Dearly Beloved: 4 stars
We Are Gathered: 4 stars

We Are Gathered was my favorite with Dearly Beloved being my second favorite (because Courtney kicked some Hunter butt).

It is worth the $2.99 for the four novellas. They are short and sweet. Sometimes lacking in the emotion connection that is supposed to be so intense. I do like that vampire as essentially impotent until they find their mates. So often, vampires are portrayed as sex maniacs and that gets old and boring!

Definitely a wonderful start to the series, love the Assassin twist I mean you think of vampires generally as blood sucking fiends now it is getting paid for yet you still cheer on the "bad boy" made me laugh, cry, and almost chuck my kindle. All in all I am loving it. I started late in the series as you can tell but I found it very easy to begin in the correct reading order with the lovely series set that has 8 different volumes. This particular book is in one with a set of 4 I am on the last of that and about to move on the volume 2 each has about 4 of the books in the series in the correct reading order if bought in proper sequence ;) Enjoy!

I started reading the individual books and decided to just go ahead and get the entire bundle. What a sweet and fun series, considering it's about vampire assassins. LOL I have to say that I really had a fun time reading their stories. I do have a few little comments about the series, good and bad.
I love a good love story and this bundle had it in abundance. Vampires all finding their mates and saving them in some way and the mates turning around and saved them right back.
OK, one thing I want to know is why after centuries of looking are they all finding their mates now? That is never explained in any of the books. It is what it is and that's it. Is it foretold in some ancient script somewhere? Is the moon aligned with the stars in the east?
Another thing, how did the Vampire Assassin League get started in the first place? I know that some know about a few others but do they ever all get together? Are they like a big happy family? I don't know, I liked the short but sweet books, but I always need more information on these things.
I'd hate to think that the killing is just about the money. It kind of cheapens the whole thing for me. They need a higher purpose or a true honorable life, not sneaking around killing humans for profit and that's it. Seeing as a lot of them are former soldiers and knights, you'd think there was a higher purpose behind it. In only one of the books does Ms. Ivie even mention the other assassins that found their mates.
Like I said, love stories can easily become old hat and predictable, but with the getting there being half the fun and this is a fun series.

My only excuses for purchasing this via Kindle are: (1) I need some light, mindless airport reading, and (2) it was cheap. These are ridiculous books, based on a group of vampire assassins who each meet their life mate (sounds a lot like Lynsey Sands vampires), without much more of a plot. Why do these wealthy vampires assassinate people, hmm? Well, don't you worry your pretty little head about it, because after the fourth book in the bundle, the author still hadn't clued us in. My sole comfort is that I would have wasted several hours reading magazines in the airport instead of this tripe, so I don't feel too bad about losing several hours of my life to this. Ugh.

"Vampire Assassin League Bundle: The Beginning" by Jackie Ivie. Books 1 - 4 of the Vampire Assassin League series.

Each book in this series is a novella in length. Fast paced, lots of action, and just enough romance. Great chemistry between each couple. As from the title, its focus is a group of vampires that are part of VAL, the Vampire Assassin League. They kill for profit and do very well, thank you very much. I really enjoyed each story. I will definitely keep reading this series.

Book 1 - "Knight After Night" - Thorin and Jolie

Book 2 - "Be Still My Heart" - Stuart and Sasha

Book 3 - "Dearly Beloved" - Dominick and Courtney

Book 4 - "We Are Gathered" - Trinstan and Rori

Definitely worth reading if you like the fated soul mate, vampires with bodies to die for, genre. This collection of books will give you individual short stories for individuals that link through the VAL. Innovatively and enthralling reads that end in such a way that you keep reading – subsequent books give hints at what happens next… Keep reading any you’ll learn more.

After reading this collection I bought the second and then the third and have been that busy reading I’m only now writing the review for the first collection. Addiction…

As Novellas go? they are very informative and entertaining! I laughed out loud so many times, I wonder if my neighbors heard me. What odd, funny, exhilarating characters, I'd ask for more in the story lines, but I think they are near perfect the way they are. I could not put them down. I'll definitely be watching for more from Jackie Ivie! A must read. I can't wait to find out about those pesky, huge, roughneck twins! They cracked me up! And Nigel, poor poor hilarious "young" Nigel! Good Job Jackie
