Christmas On The Prairie

She fully gave her life to Christ in 1988 after a rebellious young adulthood and owes the fact that she’s still alive today to an all-loving and forgiving God and to a mother who steadfastly prayed and had faith that God could bring her wayward daughter “home.” Pamela’s main goal in writing Christian romance is to help and encourage those who do know the Lord and to plant a seed of hope in those who don’t.

Overview: 4 historical romances that take place in the 1870's and 1880's in Nebraska, Illinois, and Iowa.
These stories mostly dealt with women who have to make tough decisions about their lives and futures in the wide open prairies of our country. Ivy, after spending her whole life in Boston, doesn't feel like she can fit in and belong in a town full of sod houses and unsophisticated manners. Lucinda used to be wealthy and married, but now is widowed and destitute - her only option seems to be becoming a domestic servant. Estelle is an spinster aunt that has spent her life caring for her unappreciative and cantankerous mother and great aunt, she has little faith when it comes to love. Kathleen accepts a new teaching position in a county away from her family, but doesn't intend to stay long. Her mother has always told her how she must settle down nearby her brothers and parents.
My favorite stories were the first and third about Ivy and Estelle. While four novellas were light and simple, these two portrayed love stories that had some development in them. The other two were tales of insta-love and fast-paced decision. I was not a fan of the second story at all, Lucinda. Very far-fetched and nonsensical.
Would have liked more about the Christmas season and traditions. Seemed like Christmas was definitely in the bakcground only used as an excuse for all the parties, pageants, and snowstorms.
I'd recommend others over this one.

A brilliant short story about love at first sight and the power of God to change even the hardest hearts toward Himself! A perfect way to begin this collection!
☆One Wintry Night by Pamela Griffin (Also in A Prairie Christmas Collection)
I loved this frustrated, uppity, young city gal who finds herself living in a soddy with a mom, stepdad and two sisters! The whole town just sees a spoiled woman, but this kind and handsome blacksmith knows its love at first sight! I enjoyed their interactions as he tried to woo her and she tried to resist!
☆The Christmas Necklace by Maryn Langer (Also in A Prairie Christmas Collection)
I would have liked an epilogue, but I enjoyed this mysterious romance! There wasn't much time for this couple to bond, but I did enjoy their attraction and interest for each other at first sight.
☆Colder Than Ice by Jill Stengl
(Also in A Prairie Christmas Collection)
I loved the redemption of Estelle! Such a complete turn around, only Christ could accomplish. I was confused on why the Pastor felt his initial interest in her though. He doesn't attribute it to God's purpose. But overall I think it wrapped up this collection well.

This book is 4 short stories about 4 different women (Estelle, Kathleen, Ivy, and Lucinda) during the Christmas season. I really liked Lucinda's story the best which is about a wealth lady whose house burns down, finding she has no money, becoming a servant, running for her life, and finding love in the process.

This book was very similar to "A Victorian Christmas Quilt" since it is again four stories about women facing diverse challenges and finding love and hope, but I somehow enjoyed it less than "A Victorian Christmas Quilt". The only story in there that I really cared for was "Take Me Home", which was about a young woman who arrived in a new city just before Christmas, to replace the local schoolteacher. She finds the conditions hard in the new city and misses her family terribly. She is determined not to attach herself to anyone there and return to her family soon after Christmas. But things don't go as planed when Josh, a neighbor, begins to fall for her.
The other stories were good too, but I just didn't like them as much. I would still recommend the book though, it makes for a quick, easy and simple winter night read.

Loved this book! Full of loosely connected heartwarming stories of love and forgiveness & HEA.
