I was hunting for some easier chapter books to read to my 4 year old. This fit the bill as far as having a simple story line that was easy for her to follow. And actually, she thoroughly enjoyed it.

But of course, the best books to read to your kids are the books that you enjoy reading to your kids.

Kylie Jean is from Texas and while some of the phrases she used would be humorous if read silently, I felt like a total fraud reading them out loud. The story had no real moral and was painfully uninteresting.

I think we'll revisit the Kylie Jean books when she starts reading herself. Until then, not a good series for reading aloud.

A cute book, but a few too many unrealistic things/lacking consequence. Example: Kylie Jean and her friend put glue and glitter on one of Kylie Jean's shirt, to make it patriotic. It was a play shirt, so Kylie Jean's mom didn't get mad, but it did say that they made a mess and glitter was all over her floor. Also, the family dog was in the room, sniffing the glitter, and got it on/in his nose. There were a handful of situations like this. It would be fun for a kid to read, but might make kids think that those things are okay/normal with no consequences. Because of that I give it 4.5 stars. I haven't read any other books in this series, but I hope the other books don't have this issue.

Kylie Jean is a cute Texan girl. The story shows this through her grammar and phrases such as , "I am as happy as butter on a biscuit." She is, as self proclaimed, "pretty on the outside and on the inside." She's a very kind and thoughtful character with a happy and positive outlook on life. Very nice story for children to read. The text is very descriptive and children will have no difficulty making visualization a while reading or listening to the story. However, I did find the story to drag on some and was thinking "just get to the talent show!" Overall, pleasant story.

Great book

The drawings and details were cool. My daughter really enjoyed it. Picking another book in this series as her next book.

The Kylie Jean Series is set in a small Texas town called Jacksonville. In most small towns everyone knows everybody and Jacksonville is no different. Kylie is a typical girlly girl. The color pink is her favorite color, she loves anything that sparkles and she dreams of one day, becoming a beauty queen (or some sort of queen). In the book titled, "Kylie Jean Singing Queen", Kylie enters the big 4th of July, Jubilee Talent Show. The book tells about Kylie as she prepares for her singing debut. Read the book and find out if Miss Kylie Jean is the next singing sensation of Jacksonville, Texas or not!

Kylie Jean Carter is excited when she learns that there will be a talent competition at the town Fourth of July Jubilee. Of course, she decides to enter the contest and has to choose how she will participate. The book follows her as she rehearses and designs her costume, and lets readers learn even more about Ugly Brother, her adorable dog. In the end, Kylie Jean proves that she is just as pretty on the inside as on the outside.

Easy chapter book that continues the series of Kylie Jean Carter, a little girl from Jacksonville, Texas. Ideal for kids who are beginning to read easy chapter books on their own. In this story the Fourth of July Jubilee is about to be celebrated and Kylie Jean has decided to participate in the talent contest. Simple plot line, happy characters, and a lesson to learn are the hallmarks of this series. Discussion questions, creative thinking, and a recipe are included.
