**Updated 03/28/13**

In this Regency period novella, Lady Tempest finds herself on display, standing alone by the fountain in the park, under the scrutiny of several strange gentlemen. Enter Lord Fool, as one of these fellows has the temerity to approach her under guise of returning a dropped handkerchief, so that he might warn her that her step-father intends to auction off her honor dear, so to speak. She knows she must escape the dastardly villain's clutches.

The story is short and would benefit from more development, both in plot and character, but many of the major issues with the previous version have been corrected.

The story has a lot of silliness in it and almost makes me think of it as a 'dreadful,' rather than a Regency, but overall, I still find it amusing and on the basis of the revisions gave it another star, for a total of three.

One pet peeve of mine: sample chapters from other work are presented as 'bonus material.' In my mind, something that is a complete story in itself would be a bonus. Sample chapters from another book you must buy to finish are advertising and not a gift, and thus not a bonus for anyone but the author and the publisher.

Overall, a nice improvement, making the short story more pleasant to read.

Still a somewhat cute story, but it would have been much improved with better development, a more logical plot line and had the duke not called the young lady 'honey.'

Quick Regency Read

This is a hard review to write.
Lord Fool to the rescue was a clean read....but yet the entire story is based on "Lady Aphrodite"..as the Duke refers to her as, being saved from her horrible, evil, stepfather. He has definite evil and disgusting intentions laid out for her future...and the Duke ,or Lord Fool, as he is known, is off to rescue her. Because of the "theme" of the book I would definitely say it's an adult read even though there were no "scenes". There was a surprising amount of sweet humor in this quick read though as well. I don't know that I would read it again, but the ending was fun, and i really liked the two main characters.

Some language
Book based on adult theme
Very light kissing

I am impressed with the changes in the newly updated version of this book (3/29/13). The author has done a wonderful job of revising. The tale flows much smoother, and the additions make it much more fleshed out. The ending is superior to last version by far and you leave the ending with a smile. Well done!

I write my reviews as I listen to the book.

I feel like Chapter one needed a little more establishing of the setting... for a few minutes, as a reader, I had no idea which character's point of view we were observing from. I also personally think that Hercules needed to be introduced in the book in some form before we meet him approaching Tempest. It feels like the reader is just dropped in the middle of a moving scene with little to no context and it takes several paragraphs (or minutes if you're listening to the audiobook) to figure out what is going on. Meanwhile, some scenes (like the one in White's during the auction) are super in depth.

The story itself, all other things aside, is quite solid. The premise of the auction, the purchase, the robbery, the kidnapping, the rescue, etc- all excellent story points. They could really stand to be flushed out more (along with the characters).

I love that the auction was won by a bunch of women!

Both characters stay in their heads soooo much, and sometimes they think the most ridiculous things. ("Why didn't John come after her? Was he lazy?")("Had he forgotten who he was?")

The robbery through the eyes of Leland was also ridiculous. It truly was like being in the mind of a drunk person. He walked into a robbery and laughed... then, woke up with a hangover and instead of leaving the house of the villain, he found a dark room and a place to sit and think.

I don't much care for insta-love, and I found a couple of things bothersome... like Leland had a carriage of "armed friends", none of which were introduced or explained, and one of them happened to have a child in his family with a shared lineage of Redford (so the child could inherit the dukedom). It's never explained what is going on with John, or why he wanted to help Tempest. There isn't much info on Leland and the Prince's relationship (other than the Prince being tired of his and Redford's feuding), or how they became friends, etc.

It was okay as a short novel, but could have been stellar as a normal sized novel.

I've read this three times over the past 5 years and I'am sure to read it again.
The start seems rather innocent: Miss Tempest MacIntyre is strolling alone in a park, abandoned by her stepfather, when she's approached by a pleasant man who offers her his escort around the park. The plot turns a bit dark, as the gentleman warns her of her step-father's plans to auction her virginity. In this nasty business there is a touch of humor in their discourse as he addresses her as Miss Aphrodite, while she addresses him Mr. Hercules, having never been introduced to each other. To avoid spoilers I will only add there are unexpected turns toward the worse and then for the better and further entertaining scenes. L. L. Muir certainly has a talent for witty dialogs and interesting characters.

Don’t Be A Fool:

L. L. Muir is one of the best writers for making you see, feel and believe in her characters. She writes personas with such depth, you remember the characters long after the book is read. I started with her Culloden Ghosts and now have read everything she has written.

Her Regency series are the best. I can’t remember laughing as much as I did while reading these books. Muir’s females are strong and yet still feminine, smart but still vulnerable and just a little flawed (like real women). This was a wonderful read, I was disappointed in how short the story was and wanted more of Tempest and her Lord Fool. I applaud Muir’s Regency series. Can’t wait until her next book.

This was a light-hearted, clean story with likable characters. The plot was enjoyable with funny & witty happenings, even though the main plot was the auctioning off of a Baron's step-daughter. Lady Tempest (aka Aphrodite) & Lord Stromberg (aka Hercules) give us a fun ride through the story as he tries to rescue Tempest from the hands of her stepfather. I found the supporting cast from Lords to servants a delight! I highly recommend this short but fun read to anyone!

Comical

A rather comical story, also a nice short, direct to the point story. Not much to write about so I shall not write about it at all. Please do enjoy.

Lord Fool to the Rescue

A little far fetched in places but still a fairly interesting story. The characters were not always what they seemed to be.

A Recency Romp

Only Muir can fill a short novella with so much proper fun and fully developed characters that you are actually disappointed when it comes to an end!

Took a while to get into the story but ended well. Too many characters made it a little muddy. Eventually the. Story came together.

Lord Fool is really Leland Wescott, the Duke of Stromburg. Young though he is, he is a decorated war hero, having saved many of his men from being burned to death in a building fire. Unfortunately, he did so by holding them at gunpoint so that they could not run foolishly into the conflagration to try and save mates who were already beyond help.

The military may have thought he saved a significant number of lives, but the peerage thought his actions dishonorable. Dubbed “Lord Fool” behind his back, Stromburg spends his days trying to keep his land and crop holdings from the grasping clutches of the Duke of Redmond and feeling like the fool he is called.

When Baron Ledford offers his stepdaughter, Tempest MacIntyre, up for auction as a one-night stand, Stromburg receives an invitation to bid. Infuriated at the Baron’s gall, he goes to warn Tempest of her guardian’s lies about an arranged “wedding.” Though used to the stepfather’s cruelty, the depths of this particular depravity take her aback. And now she understands why so many men are walking around her in the park, looking her over as they would a horse up for sale.

Though thankful for the warning, Tempest assures Stromburg that she has already made arrangement to escape the man’s clutches. She also assures him that, with the new developments, she will be gone before the morning and before the stepfather can turn her into damaged goods.

Well, as you can imagine, the best laid plans, etc. etc…So, for the remainder of this 70-some page short story, we witness the “gone astray” parts from the viewpoints of Tempest as she tries to flee and Stromburg as he tries to protect and save her.

L. L. Muir crafts in this Regency entry, a scenario that alternates tension and fear with bouts of tongue-in-cheek, laugh out loud, tears down the face humor. The scenes involving the auction, the attempt to flee, and the transfer of “goods” to the winner of the auction are all quite seriously plotted. And, as such, the comedy that seems to pop up out of nowhere is both a relief and a true delight.

This short story is not deemed a prequel to any of Muir’s current series. However, numerous and intriguing hooks exist that could lead to future works or even a series should Muir choose to do so.

I have been thinking about what to say for a few days. It was fun, and an easy read but I did find the ending a little abrupt and slightly unconvincing.

The characters were amusing, and for once the female main character did not need much help extracting herself from her predicament. It would be nice to learn why Lord Fool is known as Lord Fool but he was entertaining enough and the villain, of course, got his comeuppence in an amusing way.

I would have liked more, the story was very short and I think more could have been done to fill out the characters and the intrigue and this would make it more enjoyable. There was the essence of good characters but in such a short story simply the essence.

Overall I would give this 2.75 as the abruptness and slightly confused of the ending and the shortness of the story was a little disappointing. There were a few terms which didn't seem to fit the time period, "such as honey" and I am not convinced any dwellers in London, or its environs would refer to it as "Londontown". However that said I noticed the author has a copy with a new ending which I have now downloaded and will read and it was an entertaining couple of hours and
I would consider other stories, with a little more substance by this author and will check out her longer novels.

This starts of with the short novella 'Lord Fool' then an excerpt of Blood for Ink (The Scarlet Plumiere Series) and Somewhere Over the Freaking Rainbow (A Paranormal Thriller), The Secrets of Somerled and Going Back for Romeo (Highlander Time Travel Romance).

So this is more or less a really extensive marketing tool for the authors books.

It gives a fair indication of the quality of writing and various concepts in differnt genre. The Blood for Ink excerpt was quite amusing for instance.
The novella is a standard heroine needs to be saved from terrible man scenario and so la la, except for the ending. I found the explanation about who did what to whom a tad muddled in the last chapter or so.

The book is missing a middle, clarity, a love story and a setting structure to care the short story. The premise is cool. Yet; I still don't know why he is called Lord Fool, by her or by himself or why she refers to herself as Lady Fool only at one point, nor do u know what's going on with the prince, why the step father is evil. And if one does happen to piece it together one does not feel the emotion. The story needs to fleshed out. It needs to have a point when she falls in love. I get him falling in love but not her.

Just like the 4 star person said, this story makes no sense and is missing everything possible you need to have in a story. It jumped around, the characters and characterizations were unclear, the plot was... basically missing. Although the premise is great, that doesn't make up for everything else.

Skip this - even if it's free.

A really badly written riff on the damsel in distress trope. The dialogue is atrocious. I knew I was in trouble when the hero called the heroine "honey". The story itself only takes up about one-third of the book -- the rest are excerpts from other books. I was so disgusted, I didn't try them. Deleted this from my library.

This wasn't your typical romance at all. From the very beginning, Tempest has to deal with the most vile of stepfathers, a host of less than savory men, an auction with disastrous results, and a white knight in less than shining armor. It was a sweet romance with a good dollop of humor. I would read more from this author.

This was...very disappointing, to say the least. When I downloaded it, my iphone said there were 347 pages. To find that the story stopped on page 183? Sigh. Not a fan. The plot was incredibly rushed and without much "meat." I wouldn't read this again.

I was confused by this novella. I did enjoy some aspects of the story, despite the fact it seems unfinished. It contains some anachronisms and lacks context and continuity. I assume it serves as a hook, leading us to the author's other books.
