I hate writing book reviews. I hardly ever do it, but when I saw Stephen's book was on here, I had to step up. Stephen writes poetry in a clear, precise manner. Precision and spareness that's not too studied. One senses he does not labor over revisions, though he might. I don't know. Past Present Suture reads like a fast car tuned up fast by your favorite mechanic, and that's that. Get in and drive it away, it's your baby and it runs like a million greyhounds, only slowly on the curves, because the driver isn't a maniac.
