In this sweet, self-contained, and Mature-rated Boys' Love tale, a veterinarian and a college guy fall for each other thanks to an adorable stray cat!
Okura is a tough veterinarian who works at Kinako Animal Hospital, right near the entertainment district. One day, a kind and earnest college student named Momo brings in a tiny kitten he found on the streets, and the two men grow closer as Okura helps Momo learn about cat parenthood. It isn't long until their conversations turn from petcare to their experiences with romance as Okura finds himself wanting to get to know Momo better. Will their relationship grow into something more with a kiss?
This was an adorable manga about a gentle veterinarian and a sweet, but prickly, college student who meet when the latter rescues an abandoned kitten. Their romance is cute, spicy, and very healing for both of them. The only thing I would have changed is splitting this into at least two volumes. Momo has a lot that he's dealing with personally regarding his self-worth, and it's only partially addressed here. Even still, I very much enjoyed this.
Aika perus, kaikin puolin!
I like the character designs, but otherwise, it was just alright. I picked it up because I like yaoi and I love animals. Sadly the animals nor the veterinary job were very prevalent in the story, it seemed mostly focused on Momo visiting to see the cat he saved and the DMs conversations he was having with a guy named 'Salty' who was said cat's vet and the love interest.
I probably wouldn't have bought this if the summary had in any way depicted the actual contents of the story, but I guess the misleading description did me a favor, since I ended up enjoying it.
"Okura helps Momo learn about cat parenthood. It isn't long until their conversations turn from pet care to their experiences with romance as Okura finds himself wanting to get to know Momo better."
False. None of this happened.
The actual progression of events is: Momo brings in the hurt kitten (p. 7) and asks Okura to keep it at the veterinary hospital until he finds its owners (p. 11), since he's a college student who lives in a pet free apartment. Okura, despite his coworkers' complaints, agrees, partly because Momo is very much his type and he can't resist that charming, cute face. Momo returns regularly to check on the kitten and to make lost cat flyers to stick up around town, but they don't talk about cat ownership or pet care at all...because Momo has zero intention of ever taking this cat home himself.
They don't talk a huge amount in general; Okura asks a few questions but Momo says his job is a secret, and just gives a little bit of information about school itself - he's a literature major, but is always showing up in super stylish, expensive clothes. Then, pretty much out of the blue, Momo tells Okura that all his female friends had told him about the hot vet they wanted to sleep with, and he starts asking Okura when he last had sex and how he likes it, while describing what he thinks Okura is like in bed (p. 27).
So...yeah. It was incredibly abrupt! It was not at all the sweet, slow "getting to know you" progression described on the back cover.
Okura takes all this as a strongly obvious hint that Momo is hitting on him and kisses Momo...who freaks out and leaves, because he was just toying with Okura a bit and hadn't thought he'd actually do anything.
Not because Momo is innocent or inexperienced himself, or shocked by Okura being interested in him. He's also gay, and his side job is to be a sugar baby for an assortment of lonely older men. He takes them to restaurants, on dates, and sometimes to hotels. He sleeps with one of them immediately after this kissing incident - off screen, thankfully, although it's clear he's keeping that job active throughout the story.
Poor Okura...I really liked him. He's got a very stern, grumpy face but a soft heart, and while he's more awkward around people than animals, he does his best to listen and offer advice. This isn't something the emotionally standoffish, stubbornly independent Momo appreciates in person, but when Okura's coworkers ask the freshly spurned Okura to sign up for a new dating app and he unexpectedly finds Momo on there...well, their communication gets a lot better.
I'll be honest, their texting wasn't written all that well. I absolutely do believe that through the distance and anonymity of text and screens, Okura could talk to Momo more easily than he'd managed in person. On the page, it was mostly a bunch of "lol" responses and kind of overly prying questions. But I'll look past that, because Momo did get comfortable enough with his new "friend" - something he wanted more than a boyfriend - to open up to him about some of his insecurities and secrets.
A big one was that Momo grew up without much family, and got really attached to his best friend in junior high. The typical first love storyline, plus clueless jokes from the friend about how they probably would've dated if Momo had been a girl.
When he runs into this friend - with a girlfriend in tow - near his school, all the old feelings and hurt come rushing back, and he tells "Salty" - Okura's online persona - about it.
Meanwhile, in real life, Okura and Momo talk about the kiss, in a reasonably mature way. Then Momo asks Okura to go somewhere with him to talk, which ends up being a love hotel (p. 51), where he tells Okura about his sugar baby job and tries to have sex with him to thank him for his help taking care of the kitten.
Again!! Not really a slowly developing sweet little romance. They're a whole lot rougher around the edges than I'd been expecting, but they do communicate pretty decently as adults who each know what they want.
Okura asks Momo to quit his job and to date him. Momo gets super angry about this - he doesn't want or need a boyfriend - and leaves Okura in the hotel.
Okura, rejected and hurt again. Poor dude. Although at this point he's leading a double life and not telling app-Momo he knows who he is in real life.
From here, the development does get better. Okura does his best to be the online friend Momo needs, and they relax into friendlier communication in person, even with all the tension lingering between them - sexual on Momo's side, and a combination of sexual and romantic on Okura's.
The pacing was pretty decent, as they got to know each other better, and as Momo began to struggle with the desire to unlock some of his fear and hurt and let himself truly care for someone again. Except he's torn between "Salty" and Okura; Salty is easier and more comfortable to talk to, but Okura is so awkwardly kind in person, and likes him so much...and they do end up sleeping together another time, because Momo really needs the physical connection so he can stop thinking so much.
It's not a perfect story, but I liked how they worked things out and how steady and caring Okura was throughout, even while apologizing and explaining why he'd connected with Momo on the app.
And, to my relief, Momo quit his job when they entered the relationship. It's just a personal dealbreaker for me, which is what would've made me pass on this story if I'd known that whole side plot to begin with.
But it all turned out well in the end, with a happy relationship and a cute kitten, to boot.
The art is nice and I do love a grumpy/sunshine trope but BL dating dynamics are always so weird which is why I tend to stray away from them. Like I get sunshine is traumatized and wants male attention for emotional fulfillment, but then how does he reject a hot vet who literally has a soft spot for small animals and is showing extreme interest? Get it together bro
It was overall alright, a victim of false advertising tbh.
From the blurb, you think it'll be about two guys bonding over looking after a cat and the vet teaching the collage student about pet care and it would go a bit into how to care about a cat (and thus, each other).
But the cute college guy is actually a prostitute (well, technically a sugar baby, but he has sex with his clients), but as someone who projects themselves as the seme (and I'm the jealous type)... This just gave me some NTR vibes that didn't feel right because of the seriousness (it wasn't light-hearted like Mizuryu Kei Land) and I don't have a prostitute-fetish. So the concept rubbed me the wrong way. It was written more in a realistic fashion (I don't have money, so I have to sell my body because I'm a broke college/university student with no family to help), which is a big social issue in both Japan and the UK, so it was too realistic in that sense, which made it hard to enjoy in a "BL" sense.
Don't get me wrong, prostitute stories can be fun, but it only really works in comedy series, where it doesn't take itself too seriously, but this took it way too seriously. Granted, there isn't any graphic sex scenes of the prostitution, but the fact it's going on in the background and the characters keep referring to it left a bit of a bad taste in my mouth.
So, as a story, it's okay, but it does kinda ruin the sex scenes potential a little bit.
It's a shame too because I love that this manga focuses on the seme's perspective and works in the animal industry (which makes it more relatable for me) and having a cute guy being cute and adorable (and the English version being uncensored! (No light sabers or black bars in sight!)... All the pieces were there to make it a very enjoyable BL to read at bedtime.
But... The prostitution side of things ruined what could've been a wonderful time.
If you have a prostitute-fetish, then you might like this, but for people like me (who like "exclusively" when it comes to those we pursue), then don't bother with it and read Honey Darling instead (even though the guy isn't as cute as the guy in this book and it's censored badly).
This is a strange little story, with some real potential. It was cute, I loved Okura/Salty Dog, but I just never really connected with Momo/Yuu. The story felt rushed, searching for convenient ways to bring them together. Momo is a male escort to pay his way through college, while Okura is a vet. They're brought together when Momo finds a stray kitten and brings it in for treatment. But while Okura is instantly attracted, Momo isn't. By the end of the story, Okura's attraction morphed into more of an addiction than love, while it took a long time for Momo to even like him back. There's also a case of questionable catfishing when Okura accidentally finds Momo on a dating site and strikes up a friendship without revealing who he is. Overall, it would have benefitted from being longer, to give them a more natural progression from strangers to friends, and also to properly explore Momo's issues. I'm also not sure how I feel about Okura's insistence that Momo stop being an escort and letting Okura take care of him instead. It's not quite slut-shaming, but it does feel a bit possessive and obsessive. Maybe if it took more time with the characters we'd have explored why Momo was an escort, helped him deal with those feelings and we could have seen whether he did or didn't enjoy it before Okura made that declaration. If we'd seen Salty Dog and Yuu chatting about him not enjoying his work or something it wouldn't have felt so possessive.
Time for my first review of the year of our Lord and Savior, 2025! While I was hoping that this manga would be four stars, the comments warned me that it might not be and they were right. Some things that hurt this manga are:
This manga suffered really hard from a bad description. The description makes you think that it will have animals featured heavily, the two guys bond over caring for a kitten, and they slowly develop feelings for each other. I would have loved that plot! Instead, we get a guy who brings a kitten in, him taking care of it is barely featured, and a texting subplot is heavily featured instead. While this isn't inherently bad, the description you read on the back of the manga is really misleading and doesn't accurately describe the plot, which I was way less interested in.
Okay, this manga also moves incredibly fast! They kiss within the first couple chapters and the sex scenes also happen relatively quickly. I didn't really feel like the author built up the chemistry and attraction between them before they started making moves on each other. It felt like they barely knew each other when they kissed. Once again, not inherently bad but it just didn't work for me.
Once again, the plot just wasn't interesting to me personally and I would have preferred the plot that the description described.
I will admit that I did think the art was good and the main characters were cute!
Not a horrible start to 2025 but not great either.
26/02/2025 3 ⭐ I didn't read the blurb I just saw kitten and dog in the title so I truly had no idea what I was in for with this one. I didn't *love* this one but I did love seeing the animals!
Super cute romance. Momo brings in a kitty he found to a vet hospital where he meets Okura, a serious looking veterinarian. It was basically love at first sight for Okura and he agrees to keep the kitty in the hospital until she’s better and they find an owner for her. Momo visits almost every day and Okura falls more in love with him. You root for him even though you know Momo doesn’t think of him that way, for now. 😏 one day Momo teases 😏😏😏the vet and finds out Okura likes him🥰. The complications come when Okura, to find out more about Momo, joins an app under the guise of just finding a friend and becomes Momo’s friend on the app. Now the conversations goes on and on between them and Momo begins to realize that he has feelings for both Okura and his friend on the app! 😱 but we get our happy ending and more😏. And kitty gets a new home, any guess where? 🤔😆

It's short enough for someone who especially likes one-shot type of stuff to really enjoy the work. I think there was so much room for this story to spread out into 2-3 volumes, but alas it was not meant to be...
I really like the overarching plot, the misunderstanding, and the resolution. I think all in all it's a solid work. My only gripe is that I think it could have been a 4 star work had there been more pages to really explore the relationship and build them up a bit slower. That's half personal preference and half comparison to other works, or course, but I do think the fast pace does make it drop some in quality since the conflict is so nuanced and somewhat needed more room to really work out.
Super cute romance for on the older side. This is a Japanese workplace romance.
There is Yuu, the cute college student and the grumpy vet working the late shift. Yuu brings in a stray kitten he found and the vet helps him take care of it. Is there flirting going on. Oh yes. Neither is insecure or scared and they have both accepted who they are. It's so very refreshing to have all that out of the way.
The kitten brings these two together. Both have their baggage and they have to work through some stuff. It ends just when it's getting good. I wish there was another volume. There is some sugar in here, but it's not innocent. This is a more grown up relationship.
I had so much fun reading this. It's so nice to be out of the high school genre even for a single Manga.
Liked the setting of a veterinarian getting some love! Loved the cute kitten that bonds said veterinarian with the guy who rescued the kitten. Not...exactly expecting the contents therein to include love interest being a sugar baby. I mean, the blurb on the back was entirely misleading. O_O
The relationship turned out better, thankfully, but Momo's hot and cold attitude and outright flirting with him and saying racy things, then being shocked/put off when Okura kissed him? I didn't much like that when Okura wasn't even trying to come onto Momo. He was attracted to him, not that he wanted to get into his pants.
=/ Only reason I didn't give this book a higher review. The romance after was very sweet, but dang. This did not turn out like I expected. XD;

A super standard yaoi manga featuring a sweet guy with terrible RBF x a seemingly sunshiney uke who is, naturally, a sugar baby on the side. (I don't know how I feel about that translation of what he's doing, given that it seemed sort of between being a sugar baby, an escort, and a full service sex worker-- was it written as enjo kousai or something similar originally? do I just not know anything about sex work terminology? who's to say.) There is some truly insane "why would he do that" in here but it is always very easy to smooth over given how quickly the plot progresses, and, fine, yes, it's a lot of nicely-drawn porn interspersed with cute kitten drawings. It's very, very pleasant to read if you have even a passing interest in fairly typical yaoi. I had a good time!
The mature rating gives away where the story is headed (it's the reason we noticed it, right?) Despite the description of the veterinarian as being scary and intimidating, I actually found Momo a bit scarier. Momo comes across as sweet and innocent but the way his mind works, you like him but wish he didn't always see things through a certain POV when making decisions on how to act. Who wouldn't love two guys who want to save a little kitten? The kitten not only brings them together but keeps the tension as neither one is willing to give up on it even when things between them are not ideal. The artwork was wonderful and the story between Yuu and Salty helped mix it up.
Momo comes across as an adorable college student, but he's got a deeper side working as an escort/sugar daddy. He also checks all the right boxes for Okura, who meets Momo when he saves a kitten off the road and Okura is the vet in charge of her care while they look for the owner as Momo can't have pets in his apartment. Lines get blurred and misunderstandings all around, made possibly worse when Okura finds Momo as Yuu on a dating app and starts chatting under the guise of looking for a friend. The "mature" rating for this story is definitely accurate as well given the number of references and outright sex scenes. Still, even with this and the number of assumptions and misunderstandings, somehow these two manage to figure things out and seem to be happy.

I wanted to like this so much. The art was cute, the synopsis was a bit misleading still piqued my interest. I think this story really hurt by being a one shot. The pacing was break neck and the spice went from 0-100 in a matter of a page. Which brings me to the dialogue. It could very well be the translation, but it read like a bad fanfiction. The dialogue was probably one of the biggest factor I didn't love this. Maybe if the story was spread between two volumes, it wouldn't be as bad, but we will never know.
Okura is a veterinarian that works in a animal hospital near an entertainment district so that means crazy hours. Momo is a collage student that brings in a stray kitten that finds on the streets into the clinic to be looked at by Okura.
Okura finds himself very much interested in Momo but he’s kinda scary looking, and he doesn’t really now the best way to approach talking to Momo.
There is adult contest but the story line is really really good and cute and the way it ends is just perfect. Well worth the random grab it was.
okay idk why I thought this was going to lean more wholesome than spicy....I guess the plastic wrapping should have tipped me off. in my defense, a lot of these are quite fluffy until the very end - this one was NOT that. there's a kiss only a few pages in, followed by a whole plot-point about sugar daddies/using sex as a coping mechanism. other than being unprepared for the smut, I really enjoyed this, and the art was perfect.

3.5* This was cute in a very modern way, but honestly it just made me want to re-read Honey Darling (which I did, LOL). The mangaka was obviously inspired by it a lot so this didn't feel very new to me, but I appreciate that it did veer into slightly different territory with both MCs being gay upfront and getting into Momo's character motivation/development. He's not my favorite kind of character but at least he opened up in the end and happy couple ensues.
A cute story with a bit of miscommunication involving the anonymity of texting, as well as a stray kitten, this book was a short, fluffy read. The dynamic of the deuteragonists is fairly level, with the typical BL top/bottom roles influencing but not defining their personalities.
Oh, and the animals are *very* cute and fluffily drawn.
A short, sweet read with a mostly healthy dynamic and not too much drama. 4.5/5 rounded up.
