Mate Hunt: Feral Pack #2

Chased by the Guardian

Rate this book
By some miracle, my fated mate is a werewolf.

Honestly, I thought the mate fever was going to take me out. Being a vampire comes with a lot of unfortunate consequences.

But I finally met my mate--in the bathroom, of all places--and he's a wolf.

Drinking his blood saves my life, but then everything gets more complicated.

He's dark, jaded, and has a five-year-old son.

If we decide to be together, it will change all three of our lives.

I think I can live with that, but it's not up to me.

And what am I supposed to do if my mate decides that isn't what he wants?

*This is the second in a series of steamy connected standalones, but can be read entirely on its own. Humor and happily ever after guaranteed ;)

3.5 stars, rounded up

- fated mates
- vampire/werewolf
- single dad

Deep in the throes of mate fever and expecting to die, Iris’s mate accidentally stumbles upon her puking up her guts in the bathroom of the townhome she’s been staying in. His townhome.

While drinking from him saves her life, things with Kai aren’t easy. The single dad is broody and distant and unsure if Iris and their new bond is something he wants.

This was my first book by Lola Glass, and I really loved her writing style. The pacing of Iris & Kai’s story was wonderful and hooked me in from the start, but I wish there would have been more of their relationship AFTER they’d solidified the bond. Overall though, I really liked it!

Awww. That ended up being so sweet.

There was a short time that I was frustrated that the author did a rinse and repeat on the same tension and character choices as the first book but then it is just a fun story.

I also wish there was more with Lucas. Iris and he playing in wolf form at the park was my favorite. I wasn't as much a fan of the "approach him with candy and toys so he'll like you" thing. She's about to be family so I'm not a fan of stuff rather than time together... but that's just me.

Safety deets
- he's only been with one woman before, the mother of his kid. She's been with others but we don't hear any details.
- dead mate had mental illness and some other stuff going on
- some negative motivation but thankfully doesn't last too far
- illness. Iris has a mate sickness and almost dies in the beginning
- no other women or men tho iris does drink from a man friend when she thinks they're separated

His blood was what my body craved. His taste was the only one I'd ever have on my tongue again. He was my fated mate.

4.25 stars!

The pacing of this story was a little slower than the previous book, but it worked for Iris and Kai's relationship. Kai had so much baggage and pain from his previous relationship that prevented him from being open to Iris at first. However, the pull of a mate bond is too much to ignore, and I loved watching as Iris stood up for herself and forced Kai to make up his mind. Lucas was an adorable addition to this story, and I wish all five-year-olds were this easy! I really love this series and hope that Lola can find the inspiration to continue it soon🖤

Tropes: fated mates, rejected mates, shifter/vampire pairing, single dad, lonely heroine, frenemies-with-benefits, alpha j/p hero, mating frenzy, STEAMY🔥

Chased by the Guardian de Lola Glass Mate Hunt: Feral Pack libro 2

Argumento:

Romance paranormal, shifters, lobo -vampiro, parejas destinadas, padre soltero.

Me gustaba Iris, era dulce y comprensiva.

Short and sweet!

Absolutely loved Iris and Kai’s story. This was a perfect, paranormal romance where a wolf shifter falls hopelessly in love with a vampire. It starts out rocky but, ends with an incredibly sweet happily ever after.

If you love shifter romance with a found family trope then, you’ll love this book! As always, I love everything Lola Glass writes. Happy reading all!

I really don't know how Lola Glass writes these books of hers. I've read a minority (I still have a long way to go) of her books, and each one was way better than the last. This book was amazing, and I loved reading all of the troubles Iris and Kai go through, although to be honest my favorite character was Lucas, he was just full of joy.

Chased by the Guardian the second book in the Feral Pack series. Iris and Kai are the second couple in the series and I absolutely adored their story. There were so many emotions, both heartwarming and a little heartache, how could I not love this book.

I liked Iris, she is the sweetest person. Even after Kai basically rejected her she was understanding and respectful of his feelings and was thoughtful of his adorable little boy. Now that she's no longer dying, Iris is resigned to getting her life in order and living the best way that she could with the arrangement she had with Kai. Iris didn't depend on Kai she went out and got what she needed.

Kai has trauma, his previous mate was a piece of work. I understood she had her issues but they were no excuse for the way she treated Kai. So him being gun-shy is understandable but still didn't like the way he handle things with Iris at first. I'm glad he corrected that behavior and I liked him even more after he got his act together.

The angst between Iris and Kai was strong, I felt bad for both of them. Can I say that Lucas was my favorite part of this story. Kai's little boy was a bright spot and I love how much he clicked with Iris, it was meant to be. For most of the story, there were only hints about Kai's relationship with his ex, I'm glad Lola gave readers the full story because it explained so much about Kai's reactions, I was a little shocked by her behavior. Good thing Iris makes up for what she was lacking.

What a great read, I absolutely loved the ending. Both Kai and Iris have been through a lot, Kai deserved a second chance at a mate and Iris finally got the family that she craved with a mate that loves her and his adorable little boy, seriously Lucas is a heart stealer. After reading Iris's and Kai's story I'm hoping that poor Ethan will be next to find his mate. Either way, I'm looking forward to the next couple.

As with all of Lola’s books, I LOVED this one. Lola’s stories are always so well written with humour, romance and human nature (worries, insecurities, etc causing problems) and this one is so sweet with 5 year old Lucas.

Iris had moved from Mist Valley with Morgan (in the previous Feral Pack story) and had been living in Kai’s house at Morgan and Axel’s suggestion, though Axel had forgotten to tell Kai this.

When Kai goes to drop off some of Lucas’ things he’s surprised to find a vampire in his bathroom, passed out as she’s near to death having not found her mate. He’s caring for her but having been rejected by his first mate, Lucas’ mum who’d died, he’s hesitant in doing more than feeding her, as he’s wanting to protect his son. Iris wants to be part of their family but accepts that he’s just helping her through the mate fever and will then reject her.

This is a brilliant story with some great characters, starting off as “friends with benefits” and trying to work out how and if they can become more than that; with a lot of humour along the way. – I love how Kai speaks with his wolf and argues with him (his wolf is very determined), I also loved Lucas who is so sweet – a great father and son team.

I also loved Morgan’s love and care for her vampire flatmate and best friend Iris; getting her out of Mist Valley when she herself first moves to Moon Ridge, finding others in the town to help feed her, and trying to help her find a furry mate of her own. I can’t wait for the next in this series.

Iris is a vampire and she is very sick due to the fact that she has reached the age when she must find her mate- only the blood of her mate and going through the steps of mating will save her life. She is best friends with Morgan who is mated with Axel, one of the feral pack members. Iris is staying at Kai’s house, but she is getting worse. Every unmated wolf in the regular wolf pack has given her blood to see if they were mates. None were. Sadly, she kept throwing up blood and she thought she was going to die when Kai came into his house and found her. No one had told him that she was there so…. Yup he was upset to say the least.

But he is a good man and a good wolf. Seeing that she is very ill he calls one of his pack and finds out what is going on and tries to help her. Unforeseen circumstances and misunderstandings abound. Kai is father to a five year old little cub, Lucas. Omg he is so cute! I love that little boy! I found myself giggling at the kid’s antics and the adults reactions to him. I also loved that Iris had hope and that Morgan threatened to kick her. Lol. I also liked learning about the different stages of mating as a vampire versus just werewolves. Way cool and also steamy! Werewolves give new meaning to possessive. Lol. I can’t wait for the next book! Hopefully, it’s Ethan.

Iris is a talented dancer who had a promising career in front of her. However, as she is a vampire, she is going through the mating fever, that can literally kill her if she doesn't feed from her fated mate, whom is yet to be met.

Kai, usually a grumpy werewolf, has been through a major series of bad breaks on the women front and has a great difficulty in trusting them. So, when he decides to visit the townhouse that he shared with his now deceased ex wife, who let's face it never loved him, lied to him and did the unthinkable and finds a pretty vampire in her lacey underwear puking her heart out in his bathroom and currently resting between bouts, on the floor, he is stirred but not happy.

At the sight of Iris, his eyes turn red, the shifting starts and he utters one word " Mate".

This is Iris's ancd Kai's story and it is worth reading.

I discovered this author not so long ago through books she wrote and sort of fell under her spell. She has a special way to creating stories about the paranormal with the main characters engaging in dialogs with a funny attitude under the worst circumstances and using sass and witt that made this reader laugh at certain moments during my reading this story, while also keying up my interest in the plot as well as reactions from all the characters the author uses in her story.

The book turned into a page turner that I highly recommend with a rating of 5 Stars. If I could give it ten stars, I would.

I LOVE STORY!!

H: Kai (Werewolf)
h: Iris (Vampire)
I really like this story. I honestly didn't want it to end.
Iris is dying without drinking from her mate who she hasn't found. After Kai finds her dying in his bathroom they realize they are fated mates. Kai doesn't want a Mate. After having such a dramatic experience with his previous mate who died of cancer and still chose to get pregnant and almost killed his son. But this mating bond he couldn't find. Since the vampire mating is crazy, it goes 1-mate fever 2-mate thirst 3-mate craze. The mate fever- where she needs to feed from him constantly to keep the fever gone, then with a kiss it moves to step 2. She never told him that, she felt his rejection and decided to not tell him the whole truth where she would need his blood not only for a few days but forever. She almost died before his wolf took control of the situation and pretty much threatened Kai not to reject his mate.
I really love this story. I just didn't want it to end!

Kai has had a truly horrendous past experience with his dead fated mate. Understandably he is dead set against connecting with another. He is a big, gentle, taciturn shifter completely focused on being a good father and supporting the feral pack.

Iris has resigned herself to death. As a vampire, unless she finds her fated mate, she will die vomiting blood alone on the bathroom floor.

In walks Kai and the world changes. They both recognise each other but he, having saved her life, as good as rejects her.

Iris pulls her big girl pants up, moves out of his house and tries to get on with her life. When Kai, against his better judgement, goes to check on her and she's not where he left her his control is shot.

I love Lola's shifter stories and this is as fantastic as all the others. Can't wait for the next one.

I've been looking forward to Kai and Iris's book since the end of the previous book when they first met. I'm glad to say that it didn't disappoint. I really enjoyed Kai and Iris's story. And I have to mention, Kai's son Lucas is adorable and added a lot to the story. I really liked Iris as well and it didn't take long me to warm up to Kai either.

Kai's first mate was a horrible experience for him, and the only good thing he got out of it was Lucas. So he's reluctant to jump in with both feet when he realizes that Iris is his mate. And poor Iris was sick for over a year and dying when she meets Kai. Vampire's really have it rough when it comes to finding their mates. Needless to say, they don't have the smoothest beginning to their romance.

Chased by the Guardian is a great book. It has romance, sexy times and a sense of family. I would recommend it to fans of paranormal romance.

This is Iris, Morgan's vampire friend (from the first book). She is suffering with the mating sickness and will die if her mate doesn't find her soon.

Kai is a single father of a 5 year old and living as part of the feral pack. After experiencing a less than stella fated mate with his now deceased son's mother, he is not looking or willing to look for a mate.

This was an interesting spin, lots of baggage and responsibility from both sides and I was invested in them making it work.

About two-thirds of the way into the story, the tone and interest changed and it kinda slid to a quiet finish, which was a little disappointing. Then when reading the author's afterthought at the end of the book, it became clear that she'd come to end of her mojo with the series, which was sad.

Overall, an enjoyable read.

Awesome

Kai and Iris come across as the least compatible couple. He has no desire to have a mate. His first mate rejected him, tricked him into getting her pregnant and then wanted nothing to do with their son when he was born. Kai spends all his time working and taking care of his son, Lucas. Iris has been dealing with the vampire mate fever and because she has been unable to find her mate, she’s preparing to die. She’s weak and vomiting blood a lot. So imagine their surprise when they turn out to be each other’s fated mates. It takes them awhile to trust each other enough to speak their minds and truly share what’s important to them about being mates and a family. Iris needed to become comfortable being around Lucas and a family situation. All in all, it was an excellent story and I loved how all the characters interacted. Another winning book by Lola Glass.

This story delivers a swoony, angsty take on fated mates with just the right amount of bite. A vampire heroine battling mate fever, a dark and guarded werewolf hero, and a surprise single-dad twist make for an emotionally charged setup that hooked me fast—especially with their very unglamorous (and very memorable) bathroom meet-cute.

The tension between instinct and choice is handled well, and I loved that the stakes aren’t just supernatural but deeply personal, especially with a child involved. The romance is slow-burn, complicated, and layered with real emotional consequences, which gave it depth beyond the usual paranormal tropes.

While a few moments felt a touch predictable, the heart of the story more than made up for it. If you’re into fated mates with angst, found family vibes, and a romance that actually makes you feel things, this one is absolutely worth the read. 🖤🐺🧛‍♀️

I love these books by Lola Glass. They are so addictive with the such wonderful characters, such evocative reading that I could not put it down. This a new favourite. Iris was pretty much accepting that there was nothing much that could be done for her. Her friend has been trying to keep her alive but there is only so much that can be done. What she was not expecting was that the house she has been lent to stay in would turn out to be belonging to her mate. Kai has been burned before and he is not prepared to go through something like this again. Least of all when it could affect his son too. He is not entirely trustful of this fragile bond. These two are so deserving. They seemed to have such an old fashioned type of love, gradual and gentle. Loved it.

OK so Lola has me so freaking spoiled. I can't get enough of the world's and characters she creates. I've been waiting for Kai and Iris's story for a minute now and let me tell you it will NOT disappoint. It really highlights the struggles of a single dad with a troubled past trying to navigate parenting and love. Iris is Kai's Mate and a vampire who was raised by a single dad. I love how she was very understanding and took things slowly with Lucas and Kai both while also staying true to herself and not taking any crap by laying down boundaries. For me this was a very heartfelt and touching story. I'd highly recommend for a great read. Thank you Lola for the free copy for an honest voluntary review!

Chased by the Guardian is a fated mates shifter romance 🐺✨ featuring werewolves and that same interesting twist on the genre 🌙🩸. In this universe, male shifters are born, and they mate with human women, who are then bitten and turned into werewolves 🐾🧬.

This one adds vampires into the mix 🧛‍♂️🖤, which made it feel really different from the others — but in a good way ✨😮. It kept me fully engaged and made me read it in one sitting 📖🔥.

This is actually the first series of interconnected standalones that I’ve read entirely, and that says a lot 🥹📚. The books are easy to read, fast-paced, and you never feel lost in overly detailed world-building 🌍✨.

I really hope the author decides to add more books to this universe in the future 🐺🐾📚❤️.

I have been waiting to read Iris and Kai’s story since the end of book 1 and I enjoyed seeing how their story unfolded. I don’t think it is my favorite of the mate hunt world though.

The second half of the book was great, but I found myself so frustrated with either Kai or Iris at the beginning of the story. I hate miscommunication as a trope and that is what happened between these two. Actually, it was worse, they barely communicated at times.

Something about their chemistry was a little off as well. I liked them more once they got together, but before that happened, they were quite annoying.

Well, this story certainly shows how traumatic a bad relationship can be for someones future life. But those two main characters push through all that baggage and fi d their way to a happy ever after. Oh, there were certainly parts where I could have thrown both of the main characters against the wall to shake some sense into them, but when they got it together, it was even sweeter and better, like a reward for patience and working through your issues. As usual, the book is well written, the storyflow is great and some of the characyers from the older books get their appearance as well. Lots of steamy scenes are included in this book, so it's a delight to read on all fronts.

I think reading this book was bitter sweet, I’ve read most of Lola’s books and these two feral pack books and the mate hunt standalones are by far my favourites. I absolutely loved reading the last chapter where the next story is introduced so I was a bit taken aback when I got to the end of this one and there was no sneak peak of a next book, so when I found out there may never be a next book I was devastated.

Lola, you have a gift for writing girl, I hope you know that! Thanks for writing some of my fave books and creating worlds for me to get lost in.

Definitely rate this and the rest of your books in the mate hunt and feral pack series 5/5

I absolutely loved this book. Just like in the other Mate Hunt books, there is some struggle and fight for the couple to get their happily ever after, and I love it. In this one, Iris has accepted she will not find her mate, and will succumb to the vampire fever. Then Kai finds her on his bathroom floor, and realizes she's his mate - one that he absolutely does not want. Kai has been burned in the past, and cannot bring himself to let anyone into his and his son's lives. I loved reading about how Iris and Kai work through their issues to become a family.

I really hope we get more books in this series because I am not ready to let go of the Mate Hunt couples yet.

Iris and Kai's Story . . .

Iris is a vampire and Kai is a werewolf. It turns out that they are mates and their mate bond will not let them forget it! Although meeting your mate in the bathroom is not a typically romantic setting, Kai was able to save her life by his blood. Kai had been hesitant to enter into a relationship because of his issues from his previous mate. But Iris is very different, she is kind and accepting. And everyone will love 5-year-old Lucas, Kai’s son. Will Kai open his heart and accept the second chance he is offered to find happiness? Will Iris be willing to take on a new family she can love? Grab your copy and see if they work things out.

i actually like iris and kai's relationship the best out of this series so far. iris had such a good attitude over everything that was happening in her life, and she handled kai especially well (and his moodiness). the fact that she was alive and not dead kept her positive throughout times where kai was not good to her, and i liked how she stood up for herself and lucas. kai's history was interesting too, the abuse he suffered with his ex, and it helped to explain why he is the way he was and why he struggled so much to accept iris. lucas was very cute and i loved seeing kai as a dad.

Couple: Kai and Iris
Plan to re-read: Maybe
Thoughts: I liked this one about the same as the last book. It had a lot of the same flaws but it was still an entertaining read with a HEA.
FMC ends up pregnant:Yes

I was not surprised at all to read the author' s note that she has no plans to continue this series. It is a bit disappointing for me mostly because I really would have liked to read Ethan's story but you really can feel the lack of enthusiasm in the writing in the Feral Pack books. So ultimately I think it was a good choice for her to opt out of continuing while she really isn't feeling it. All in all I will probably re-read the books I liked in the Mate Hunt series from time to time since they are all on Kindle Unlimited. They are quick, easy and entertaining.
