I was really torn about how to rate this book. It's more than a 2 star but not quite a 3 star, I didn't hate it but I didn't love it either. So in the interest of fairness, I rounded up and gave it 3 stars.
The sexual tension and overall attraction Wyatt and Nicole felt for each other was well-written as was the love/hate thing they had going on. That worked and kept my interest.
Nicole and Wyatt are likable enough but for two people who are adults, they often came across as immature throughout the book. This is understandable and forgivable for people in their early twenties but I have a hard time reconciling this when they hit thirty.
Their entire relationship is a series of miscommunication and misunderstandings. They both held onto these resentful feelings towards one another for how their relationship ended. Unfortunately, neither ever confronted the other in the ten years they had been apart even though there was life-changing event involved. I just couldn't get past the fact that everything that happened over the course of those ten years could have been avoided if one of them had picked up the phone and said "WTF".
Even when circumstances thrust them into each other's lives again, the misunderstandings continue and it was very frustrating and difficult for me to understand why neither of them directly mentioned the life-changing event. These things didn't work for me and I made it difficult for me to sympathize with them.
The author did a great job setting up the big moment of truth when all the pieces clicked together and they were both on the same page. However, I felt it took too long to get there. I felt it should have happened sooner so more time could be spent focusing on their future.
These small town lost and found love has really a way of capturing your heart. Definitely mine. I loved this book. The characters were believable and likable.
Just like all second chance love stories here too had a huge misunderstanding between Hero and Heroine.
Nicole came back to town after 10 years running when she hears her father had an heart attack and is in hospital and who does she meet in airport... Wyatt her one and only lost love.
You can see the hatred between Nicole and Wyatt strong and yet feel the underlying passion. Both of them feel that they have been cheated by the other and bicker with each other whenever they are in same place. However it is not long that they fall head over heels in lust and fall in bed.
Wait Wyatt still have the surprise of knowing he had a son when both he and Nicole were separated.
I liked how author created the misunderstanding and then cleared it out.
It is a nice read and will recommend this book to all who love romance and second chance stories.
Nicole and Wyatt’s story is well written. Full of emotions and the relationship between people. Their love has had bumps that has caused tears and heartache. But now they will find happiness.
Wyatt and Nicole were sweethearts eleven years ago. The break up was not easy. Now Nicole is back because her father had a heart attack. Although sparks still fly they both have grudges against each other. It’s an easy read book you’ll enjoy.
It was readable but didn’t suck me in like other books. The number of nosey people involved in messing things up for them was a bit much. Communicate people
I am utterly speechless. I can't explain the wild emotional rollercoaster this book has taken me through. Like W.O.W. just wow.
I don't have a single bad thing to say about this book. I would highly recommend it. This book made me think about things I've never thought about. This book even thought it's a stretched version of reality, its main component of "there's no bads guys and only misunderstandings" was really relatable to the real world. This book was filled with misunderstandings that ruined a families chance to be together. And the only who had lies and cheated can be fully if not forgiven for but reasoned with.
Since the time in the book where the big truth was revealed, all I did was side with Nicole. I got so wrapped up in her emotions and thoughts (even tho it was written in 3rd person) of her that when I finally realized that Wyatt had a right too and had been just as emotionally hurt in this situation as her, it was difficult for me to his from his point even though I knew what it was. After seeing his cold shoulder torwards her after the truth came out I was outrightly on her side. My thoughts exactly was that if I were in her position and saw my child slowly leave my side and get along better with his father I would feel as if I had lost the world. in the second where Nicole found Wyatt talking to Justin in the barn I felt heartbroken. Maybe what made so mad was that I could can imagine her situation better because I am a women and would do anything for my child or maybe it was the pride that she had to swallow by confessing she loved and needed him at the end of the book. She constantly swallows her pride in this book but there were times were her pride I mistook as naivety. When she told Wyatt she was crying over her after her breakup with Brady and that she wanted Wyatt to touch her not him was a hard for me to read. I personally would never in a parallel universe ever admit that to a man. She had a lot of guts to say that but I was down right screaming at her.
There were some parts in the book I found too cliche. Their histoey together, the little scenes she mentioned throughout the book like making love in the back of his truck and at the beach physically hurt me.
I also did not like that they had sex way too soon into her coming back to town. I was dramatically sceaming at the book the words, "if you fucking fuckbags fuck I will fucking kill the both y'all dis fucking second" NO JOKE those were me exact words. They pissed me off. They should had talked rather than do the deed and I personally couldn't believe how she would let him touch her when she believes he left and abandoned her and Justin. And how he'd let her touch him when she had killed their child. Even if it was all a misunderstanding.
Oh another this I was give her brownie points for. It was really strong and mature of her by rationalizing Wyatts abandonment to an act of nativity even if it was a lie. It was also very mature of Wyatt of rationalizing Nicoles abortion to an act of nativity.
As you can see through my disorganized review that im having trouble stating all the good things of this book.
I like Leslie Kelly’s books. I’ve read a few in previous years and she’s back on my radar now. So I quite happily started Coming Home.
Alas though, for me, it didn’t work. I quickly point out it was a couple of the plot premises and not the writing so in no way shape or form am I disappointed in the author. But the whole book was built on a misunderstanding and I don’t like those. Throw in a secret baby and a big misunderstanding and no, just no. It doesn’t work for me. But if there are those who aren’t bothered by this, then this book will work fine. Both Nicole and Wyatt are good characters and well written. They were only teenagers and seeing each other on the sly when Nicole found out she was pregnant with Wyatt’s child. He was out of the country at the time and rather than there being any real communication at the time, including parents and grandparents, erroneous assumptions were made by all and Nicole thought Wyatt wanted nothing to do with her and vice versa.
Fast forward ten years and Nicole, now a successful veterinarian comes back to the small town she spent her summers, helping her vet father and falling in love with Wyatt. She avoided being there but her father has had a heart attack and she visits him and helps with her father’s practice while he recovers. Of course she runs into Wyatt first thing when he is the one sent to pick her up at the airport. There is still a very strong attraction between the two though each thinks the worst of the other. The hurt and anger is still in the way of them actually having a discussion about the past and where things went wrong.
For me, with a misunderstanding between the two main characters, the book starts out frustrating from the first page and that’s what happened with me and Coming Home. I saw the reviews on Amazon and GoodReads and this didn’t bother some as much as me and I’m good with that. It’s my personal button and as I said, doesn’t affect my opinion of this author
Nicole Ross left her hometown of in Florida and vowed to never return. When her father needs her back home she rushes back and comes face to face with the man that broke her heart many years ago. The man that she just can't let go of.
Wyatt Clayton has been through a lot in his life and came out on top. But no matter what has happened he can't shake Nicole from his thoughts. When she returns after over a decade of absence he isn't ready for the feelings that overtake him.
When a secret is revealed will these two be able to find love? Or will the secret break them apart forever?
MY TAKE
Coming home is the story of two teenagers that make fall in love and then are separated by a misunderstanding. Years later they are forced to face that misunderstanding and the repercussions of their actions.
Although it was a nice story their wasn't much character development. I would have liked for the characters to have more depth. Instead all you get is teens fall in love, there's a misunderstanding, they reunite years later, sleep with each other, a secret it revealed, back to hatred and then back together. Which is just how it went.
Like the storyline but didn't really connect with the characters. The romance was lacking and the secret isn't really a secret which makes me upset that the heroine wouldn't just come out and say it.
It’s not really a secret, to us that is, since the author tells us in her introduction. Now anyone who reads my reviews knows that I find the concept of the “secret baby” repulsive, and that, unless Dad is a serial killer, rapist, or abuser, every child should have a chance to know their father, and as early as possible. So I get really annoyed at the female MC when she hides the kid from the father – unless she tried to contact him and that didn’t work or if other people deceived her into not contacting him.
There was A LOT of deceit here. In fact, just about every adult character in the book managed to keep Nicole and Wyatt apart and Wyatt from knowing about his child. Even Nicole, to a very slight extent. All of those people should be beaten with wet noodles. And towards the end, I felt that Wyatt also became very stubborn and refused to hear the truth. The male MC made the STUPID MISTAKE for a change. But it all works out well, because that’s what secret baby books are supposed to deliver.
It was a pretty good read. The story was interesting and the writing smoothly. I liked Wyatt a lot, Nicole not as much – I had trouble warming up to her a bit. Probably because she could never make a decision about almost anything. Justin was very cool – he spoke like a wise 16-year old, even though he was 10. But that’s OK. It was a fun, quick read and one of the better “secret baby” books I’ve come across.
I got this as an Amazon freebie. Often these are of variable quality but this one was very good, no errors, absorbing story. The story deals with Nicky, who hasn't been to her father's home town since the summer her heart got broken, 11 years ago. Of course, the man she has been avoiding is there too...
You realise early on that there has been a serious miscommunication between Nicky and Wyatt and the rest of the story deals with them realising this and dealing with it.
Although I found the story absorbing I felt that the characters' behaviour didn't always ring true, for people that supposedly hated each other they seemed quick to pick up where they left off and when Nicky finds out about something appalling that a close family member has done to her and her son she is annoyed for, oh, about 5 mins, they were a bit too forgiving. I can't see them having these lingering feelings for each other and never trying to contact each other in the time they were apart. Also, Nicky's son doesn't read like a 10 year old for me.
Still, it was an enjoyable read and I'd recommend it.
Wonderful love story between two young adults. With misunderstandings and interference from others that helped to keep these young lovers apart for 11 years.
The story begins with Nicole returning to Florida after her Father suffers from a heart attack. She is met by Wyatt her one and only true love. Right from the start you feel the Hurt, Anger & Passion between these two. But being back together is all it will take to get the flames burning once again. And yes the flames reunite in this romance. You also get some humor.
I really felt the hurt that Nicole & Wyatt suffered at the hands of Nicole's Mother. All of the missed time to be together and being a family. Most all the hurt that Justin suffered.
I was fortunate to obtain this book through Amazon.com when it was offered for free. It is now listed for 2.99 and that is still a great deal.
Wow.... So many acts of deceit, misunderstanding, and miscommunication lead to a family being ripped apart for 11 years but every single little step is believable and woven together to cause the separation.
I thought this was a wonderful love story of 2 young people separated by accidental and intentional acts from the main adults in their lives, which results in resentment, lost love and a child who doesn't know his father for his first 10 years of his life.
When finally reunited after a decade apart the sparks still fly between Nicole and Wyatt but things aren't easy when the truth if their separation finally gets revealed. It takes their amazing little boy Justin to bring them back together and to finally make this family complete.
I've liked a lot of Leslie Kelly books, so I picked this one up when I saw I saw a couple Leslie Kelly books on sale. Writing-wise, I liked the book. I like the way the words are put together. The story line felt pretty forced though. Everything was based so much on the word choice of the characters. If they would have chosen one different word to say in any of the 10+ conversations they had, the conflict would have been totally different. I wanted to beat my head against a wall multiple times and say "why are you being so stubborn to use that word instead of any other word that would have made this whole issue disappear". I was invested enough in the characters that I had to finish the book and I was happy they worked everything out, but the conflict was too contrived for me.
Nicole runs home when she gets the call her Father has had a heart attack. The one person she least expects to be waiting on her is Wyatt. Nicole and Wyatt were an item once and then Nicole ran off and never came back. When Nicole sticks around to run her Dad's veterinarian business until he's back on his feet she finds herself around Wyatt a lot more than she wants. After realizing a huge miscommunication Nicole needs to tell Wyatt the truth about the main man in her life now... the one that calls her Mom. When the truth comes out will Nicole and Wyatt be able to patch things up or has this secret pushed Wyatt to far?
I liked Wyatt and Nicole's story. It was very thought provoking and gave quite an example of how miscommunication can change the course of people's lives. Their love story was full of ups and downs, but they did what needed to be done to make sure things worked out. My favorite scene was the family trip. It really tugged at my heart strings. It was in this scene where i feel Kelly revealed the most about both characters and their insecurities. Loved the epilogue as well, and I hope to come across this family again. The Claytons are one to watch. I have my fingers crossed.
Veterinarian Nicole returns home when her father falls ill. She meets the former love of her life Wyatt. He is now in charge of the family upscale ranch. When Nicole's son arrives Wyatt realizes he is the father. It is not smooth, but eventually they become a happy family after Nicole and Wyatt discover they have loved each other forever. It is a nice story, but probably to good to ever be true. Nicole's mother is the most unlikeable character in the book.
Excellent book about Family, Love,Loss, and Renewal.
Nicole comes home to Florida because of her father's heart attack. She is thrown back in contact with her first, and only love. As a vet, like her father, she is expected to take care of his clients while he recovers. A dream, and a nightmare.
This couple had been thwarted in love when they were teens. Watching the dynamics ten years later is well worth picking up this book!
Leslie Kelly has quickly become one of my favorite authors. I've truly enjoyed each novel ive read so far. Though I didn't fall totally in love with this particular one, it was still hard for me to put down. Overall the story is lovely and heartbreaking. I only thought that the arguments between the characters were a bit much. But still made for a great read. If your looking for something sweet and easy to read but not over the top sex scenes, then this is definitely what you're looking for.
As usual I love this story. It had been such a big misunderstanding between Wyatt and Nicole. I kept on reading , holding my emotions and hoping that the truth be revealed quickly. Love the hot romantic moments too. I feel for Wyatt how many years he didn't get to be with his son Justin because of misunderstanding, miscommunication and lies too. Am glad to read the happy ending . Sigh!
I will start off by saying I love Leslie Kelly and I will read anything she writes. Wyatt and Nicole's story is very sweet and tragic because of all the time they lost while separated for 11 years. I won't give away any secrets but it a very sweet story. It has a good story line and just enogh sexy chemistry to keep it interesting. It is kind of predictable but a very goos feel good read.
Nicole & Wyatt were such a pleasure to read about. Young love that hits some major bumps in the roads & the adults in their lives get involved with. Years go by to find out that the adults got it all wrong & caused them to miss out on what could have been a beautiful life together. Or, can it still be? I totally enjoyed this story that envoolved so many twist & turns in this couples life.
On the surface 'Coming Home' had what appeared to be a standard storyline. There were enough clues along the way for me to have a pretty good idea where the plot was going. The beauty with this story was how it got there. I really enjoyed how the author managed to tell the story without making any one person the villain.
A great kindle freebie that I really enjoyed picking up.
Another great book, easy read, couldn't put it down!! Loved the characters except Nicole's mom, she was a horror. Spoiler*** Loved how they found each other again after all the time apart. Didn't like all the lies and deception that kept them apart and their family. So glad there was an epilogue with a happily ever after, weddings and new babies make it a very good ending!!
This was a cute story where young lovers are separated and misunderstandings keep them apart and bitter. Nicole and Wyatt haven't seen each other in 10 years but never got over the love the carried for the other. When Nicole's father has a heart attack she is forced back into a life around Wyatt. Their lives become quite different as the pieces of the past fall into place.
Another great story by Leslie Kelly. I absolutely Loved it!! Sweet, cute, a little tearful, definitely some steamy sexy moments as well, and just an all around great little story to read. A possible second chance at romance and to finally know the truth of what really happened. Loved the sweet little ending. :)
I loved Nicole's character as soon as I met her. Her emphasis on family gave me so much hope. Her relationship with her dad and son reminded me of mine. Those conversations made me smile. As for the others, I could understand them and relate to them. I finished the book with a smile on my face!
Not that this was a bad story. The chemistry and love between the H/h was believable. I was just frustrated at their misunderstandings. She was like an ostrich with her head in the sand when it came to the past. Then, when the truth comes out, his anger toward her threw me off. Then, they just make up. I don't know. It was an inbetweener for me. Easy, fast read.
Here's to a great, you know what will happen romance. Sometimes, you read a book with no real surprises and it ends exactly how you thought it would, and you're okay with that. I liked Nicole and Wyatt, and Bradley 's evil self added a nice villainous spin. It's worth the time to read.
