After Adam’s wife unexpectedly leaves him, taking their young son with her, he attempts to drag himself out of his depression by indulging in his favourite sport, paragliding. Instead, life gets a whole lot worse when, unknown to him, he witnesses a murder 500 feet below him and the killers wrongly believe he can identify them. Until then, Adam never thought that paragliding was such a dangerous sport but he soon realises that it can be lethal if you’ve seen something you shouldn’t, the police aren’t taking your story seriously and now someone is trying to kill you. But Adam has had enough of life kicking him in the teeth and he’s ready to kick back. As he slowly begins to piece together the truth, he finds himself up against vicious criminals who have killed once and won’t hesitate to kill again. Adam stubbornly ignores the danger and it’s only when it’s too late that he realises that his most dangerous enemy is himself. For Adam is hooked on adrenalin and he doesn’t know when to quit...

I have read this totally out of sequence as this is the first book Karla had published. By now I have come to love her writing and her superb skill at story-telling and so perhaps don't see the flaws. I think I would enjoy reading Karla's shopping list! This is a good story with a very twisty plot. The characters are perhaps not so believable as her later ones but it didn't detract from a thumping good read.

A good read, not as page turning as her later books (the Nick Sullivan series)but I still enjoyed it.
