It’s a Dog’s Life

Rate this book
On the first day of Ninna’s new employment at a local animal shelter, she’s thinking only that she desperately needs this job. That one of the dogs might talk to her is the farthest thing from her mind. Is the basset hound, Mosey, a fat old smart aleck or is Ninna going nuts? It’s not as if she doesn’t have plenty of other things to worry about—such as the fact that a rash of break-ins have happened in the neighborhood, plus she feels as if she’s being watched all the time. The only bright spot seems to be the gorgeous male veterinarian who happens to live in the big mansion across the street from her tiny house—and his home is big enough to hold quite a few animals, including the impudent motor-mouth Mosey.Ninna jumps at the chance to dog-sit for her cute neighbor and coworker, insisting it’s all part of her weekend trial as a pet owner. If she gains romantic points with the vet in the process, more the better. Mosey looks forward to getting to know Ninna better. For the stalker tracking Ninna’s every movement, her weekend getaway spells nefarious opportunity …

Sweet romantic, filled with adorable animals, and animal people. Sexy hot Vet. with a heart of gold, who is single and nice. Suspense with a nasty gad guy, and ghosts ! What's not to love ? I found another author to follow/read in my Must Love Pets book set !

A light read 2.5 stars.
Kind of confusing though.... Did it want to be a romance? Romantic suspense? Ghost story? Or a comedy? It was short and somewhat underdeveloped, both in characters and plot-lines. Had it been a full length novel, I'd have likely abandoned it early in.

This is one of the most delightful and funny books I've read in a long time. There were so many funny and sarcastic comments from Mosey, the basset hound...I almost highlight them all, but then realized I'd be sharing a quarter of the book with you. LOL

The story follows a timid heroine who is afraid she hears voices...dog's voices. Well, one particular dog's voice: Mosey's. When her new boss wants her to housesit and take care of his 6 dogs (plus Mosey) and two kittens for a weekend, she can't say no...not only because she seriously is trying to get over her discomfort with animals--she works in a vet's office now--but because the veterinarian, her boss, is HOT.

Sparks fly, sexy phone conversations happen, and Mosey drives Ninna nuts by chattering at her mentally all the time. To add to her anxiety, she's got a stalker and someone has been burglaring her neighborhood. Can the dogs--namely, can Mosey--keep her safe?

2.5 stars. A light quirky mystery story, but completely mislabeled as a romance. Glad this was free. The heroine mentions she has the hots for her boss, and he might share her interest, but that is as far as the romance went. The story is a comedy romp without much laughs, centered around the heroine dog sitting while a stalker is out to get her. A talking dog saves the day. I will say the author gave this one a clever ending, I didn't see that coming.

I am a big fan of Dale Mayer's Psychic Visions series, and while this one is definitely something different, her amazing writing style still brings the story to life. Ninna is a big of a mess. She's an unusual one that has had a problem with hearing things. When she starts her new job at the animal clinic she thinks this is going to be a fresh start - until the voices begin again.

This is an incredibly sweet romance. Ninna and Stuart are brought together by a very unusual force - a Basset Hound named Mosey. He's a rather particular creature that is quite excited to find out that Ninna can hear him and communicate with him. He sets off to give her life advice and try to convince her she isn't really crazy. In fact, when a stalker comes calling, he and his friends are an important part in saving the day - in a very humorous fashion.

The addition of the stalker adds a nice little dash of danger to the story and keeps it from being overly sweet. Mosey and the other animals add a nice dose of humor and fun as well. This book was so much fun to read. The only downside was that I wanted it to keep going!

I read this book as part of the anthology Must Love Pets: A Romance Box Set.

This book was light-hearted, funny, and cutsie featuring Stuart, Ninna, Mosey, and Jane. Stuart is the attractive vet at the animal shelter where Ninna has just gotten a job. Jane is Ninna's best friend. Mosey is chatty, full of attitude, and loves gravy (though he never does get any). He also has Ninna thinking she's losing her mind and thinking a session with her therapist is desperately needed. This book doesn't have much in the line of actual romance in it. There is some flirting and suggestive language, but no physical romance. The romance between Stuart and Ninna never really gets started over the course of the book, but all signs point to one happening in the future. It was as if the story here is a lead up to their beginning to actually date. I have a hard time saying this book had a HEA ending, per say, as the "ever after" part of that is in no guaranteed. Regardless, the ending is very happy and looks toward a happy future for Stuart and Ninna. The book also ends without a cliffhanger.

It’s a Dog’s Life by Dale Mayer
Ninna Bradford finally landed a job after being out of work for way too long. It’s working at a pet center where they have medical facilities, adoptions and dog training. She’s never owned a pet, but surely she can learn about them. And the handsome young vet isn’t hard to be around either. If only the big old basset hound would stop talking to her. She’d been through so much counseling to stop the voices and now when she finally has a good job, she seems to be going crazy.

A great story with a touch of mystery along with a bit of romance. Hard times have hit their town and someone is busy with breaking into the homes around her. And it seems he’s taken to watching Ninna. Maybe she needs to find a dog of her own, one that doesn’t talk to her and drive her crazy. Although, Mosey is starting to grow on her a bit.

What an interesting concept for this novella. I think that I would absolutely love it if it were me. It would be so cool to be able to speak with animals, especially the loved ones who are no longer with us.

This was a quite well written and captivating novella. Mayer leads her readers to the conclusion through some interesting ups and downs rather than pulling and pushing them there. The characters were also quite well developed considering the story’s length. You got to know the 3 main characters quite well. However, at the end, I was left hanging on the status of the building relationship.

As a whole, this was a very cute and touching novella. It really gave me a lot to think about and more than a little enjoyment on the way. It was a definite escape from reality as we know it, to reality as it could be.

Please note that I received this novel free of charge from the author in exchange for an honest review.

I thought this was a cute story. though it did have me confused quite a bit. Though after reading it I realized it was kinda like the movie sixth sense. Which i probably just spoiled the book for anybody else who might want to read it.

The first person we see in this one is Tory, he's a thief and he just decided he's interested in a woman who resides in the neighborhood he's been robbing.

Ninna is blissfully unaware that someone is watching her as she starts her new job. Although she's almost panicking with the chaos she sees in front of her. This is obviously more than just an animal shelter. While she waits to fill out paperwork, she hears a voice in her head. Not something she wants and she's finally stopped seeing the psychiatrist. To discover it's a dog, well is just the icing. She needs this job to pay the bills.

Stuart is one of the veterinarians and he's the one who gets her past the front door and a bit settled before starting his day. However it's when he shows up on her doorstep looking for a kitten that things get interesting.

She recruits her best friend Jane into helping her find and return the kitten.

Stuart doesn't seem to mind and when her co-workers bring their pets for a check-up day, Ninna debates whether or not she wants a pet. This leads to an interest development between her and Stuart.

A short fun read with a touch of suspense, a surprise or two and some heat.

WHAT A DELIGHTFUL STORY!!!!!!😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍

This book touched my heart very much! It was a truly beautiful story!!! I loved the ending!!!! As a professional clairaudient psychic medium I hear voices all the time and it was so neat for me to read about Ninna's experiences with Mosely!!!! I wished the book was longer.... I would very much have liked to see how everything worked out for Stuart and Ninna, however, as short as the book was it was still a delightfully satisfying read! I had never read any of Dale Mayer's books before and I just happened to be browsing the Kindle store when I came across this title and being an animal lover was intrigued by the book's blurb. I am so excited because I have now discovered a new author with a great imagination to explore and to a book lover that is a priceless treat! I highly recommend this book. It is short but it grabs you, the animals melt your heart and the ending is wonderful!!!😇

When Ninna starts her job at the local animal shelter, she is in for a surprise. Between the dog that talks to her and a handsome vet that is showing interest in her, what could go wrong? When she agrees to dog sit for the cute vet, it is a way to see if she could adopt one of the animals at the clinic. Especially with the amount of break-ins in their neighborhood. While she is dog sitting, her stalker is getting closer. A great story with a little romance and suspense.

I thoroughly enjoyed this short story. It was humorous which is such a plus. Paranormal is a departure for this reader but it was not overdone and I enjoyed Mosey by about the halfway point.
I was puzzled by the heroine’s name: Ninna.
I pronounced it like Nina. But at the start I wondered if it should be ninny!

Ninna started a new job at the animal shelter and a dog is talking to her??? An older, dumpy smart-aleck Basset Hound. She has had issues in the past hearing voices, but a dog? So unfolds a cute tale of Ninna and her hunky coworker/neighbor, Stuart, and her awakening that maybe, just maybe, she will be okay and learn to open up. Cute entertaining story.

If you love basset hounds...

I did not know this was a YA short story. If so, I probably would not have downloaded it to my Kindle. But it was a lighthearted, quick read and starred my favorite dog, a basset hound. It was a nice change after all the heavy reading I have been doing. I am glad I happened on to this book.

A light hearted and sweet romantic suspense. Ninna is worried she is crazy and is looking to lower her stress when a resident pup at the new job starts talking to her. Street is her employer and a vet who has an endless heart for hurt animals. Throw in a peeping Tom and a crazy friend this is a fun read with a touch of intrigue and suspense.

Oh I loved this story. Mosey was determined Ninna would listen and see him, he also turned into her hero when most needed. A nasty stalker adds to events, and a twist at the end was a surprise. The banter back and forth had me smiling and I bet gravy gets added regularly to the menu in future. Loved it. Started and finished 29/11/21

A page turner. Ninna has never had an animal of her own, but she ends up working at an animal center. Then she realizes Stuart, a coworker, lives close to her. One her first day of work she meets Mosey, a Bassett Hound, who talks to her. Things happen during the book but the ending is...wow.

Talking to a dog shouldn’t be too upsetting, should it??? Unless, that is, the dog talks back!!! Thank goodness for Mosey!!! I enjoyed the story and recommend the book.
