And Romance Writers of America bestowed the two ARTemis Awards for Jo Ann's Zebra Regencies: The Counterfeit Count and A Christmas Bride.
Nonfiction also appeals to her, because it's where she got her start, seeing her first byline when she was twelve years old. She contributed to an encyclopedia of the English Regency period published by Garland Press. For all three editions of the New England Chapter's Now That You've Sold Your Book…What Next?, she has served as co-editor.
Believing in giving back, Jo Ann has served Romance Writers of America on both the local and national levels. She has served on the national board as president as well as a director and at term as vice president. For her volunteer work, she was given RWA's highest honor, the Emma Merritt National Service Award. She is also a creative writing instructor. She was awarded a Massachusetts Art Grant to teach creative writing and then established several creative writing courses at Brown University. Many of her students have gone on to publishing careers of their own.
She lives in Massachusetts, where her favorite hero—her husband, Bill—and their children and two cats. She's not sure which is the most spoiled.

hmmm, where do I start? This was a hard read for me. I typically love time travel books and I like Viking books, so you would think this would be a winner for me. While the premise was great, the execution flopped for me.
Nils washed up on the shores of Regency England, 1000 years in the future. That in itself was great...a time travel to Regency England. Very unique. But here's where it gets funky: Nils could speak and understand English enough that he and Linnea could converse, he knows nothing of "being a gentleman" so he needs lessons, he makes numerous passes at Linnea and she smacks him and then in turn thinks about him constantly, Linnea has a fiance that she doesn't want to marry (even before finding Nils on the shore) and she puts off telling him how she feels. And all that is in the first 30% of the book.
I found this slow moving and a bit repetitive. Sadly, it didn't work for me.

I see that this book was first published in 2007 (according to Amazon) and the ARC I just received off of NetGally has a publishing date of June 30, 2014 so I'm wondering if the author updated the story (it does not specify in the ARC).
In any case, this was a cute story. It's listed on Amazon for $0.99 and I'd say it's worth the price. It's time travel, which I am generally not a fan of, but the "modern" time is Regency England, so I was good.
I really liked the hero, Nils. Maybe it's because I had in my head a picture of Chris Hemsworth in full Thor regalia, so I'm sure that helped. I did not care for the heroine, Linnea at all, as she was just REALLY annoying. She already has a suitor when she finds Nils washed up on shore near her family estate, and for some silly reason just won't tell her suitor that she does not want to marry him. You almost feel bad for the guy, even though he's kind of a jerk.
The plot is thin--Nils has to retrieve a dagger that his brother stole from his Viking Chieftain before he can claim his spot in Valhalla. Several Norse gods help/hinder his quest as he searches for the dagger and falls in love with Linnea. There are some plot twists throughout, and even though I just finished the book a few hours ago, I can't really seem to remember much about it.
There was enough chemistry between Nils and Linnea to make for some sweet scenes, although the only sex scene in the book was at the end and was ok--we were left to wonder if they had both dreamed it due to interference from the Norse gods.
All in all, it was a cute book, although I don't think I'd pay more than the Amazon price of $0.99.

I liked this one. It wasn't as saucy as I usually expect and enjoy in a romance novel, but what it lacked in explicit sex, it more than made up for with the appearance of several well described and researched Norse gods throughout the story. I was especially surprised and pleased to see Frigg make an appearance. We all expect to see Loki and Odin around every corner (though I was surprised by the glaring absence of Thor), but having Frigg be the couple's cheerleader and champion felt very true to her strong, wise character. And Loki's character as the half-mad trixter was equally masterfully crafted.
The only thing that felt awkward and halting to the flow and really unnecessary was the whole bit of our hero being blinded, and then a rushed scene where this mysterious "blood enemy" happens to come into the room and is slain by our heroine. All described by a blind man who can't see what's going on. Seems to me, this blood enemy didn't even need to follow him to this time, it wasn't critical to the story at all and just seemed like it was pasted in there to fill space or something.
Otherwise, fun story, strong and honorable hero. Though I couldn't help but imagine him as a Disney cartoon guy, like in Beauty and the Beast, about 7 feet tall, crazy huge shoulders and chest, hands that could wrap a fist around your head, and tiny feet.

Viking warrior Nils Bjornsson is transported to Regency England by the playful Norse Gods so that he can complete his oath to regain his chieftain's captured sword (or something like that). Lady Linnia finds him and nurses him back to health with the help of her maid and the stable boy (no one gets wind of the fierce Viking in the pavilion, no one). Since Nils and his fellow Norsemen had raided Britannia many times, he is able to understand and speak like any Regency buck in no time flat, plus all his time mending sails on ship left him handy with a needle and thread and he can rework the old clothes Linnia finds him in the attic to dress like any gentleman of leisure.
Our pair battle their attraction, as well as dilemma they face - if Nils accomplishes his task he'll be returned to glory in Valhalla, or should he give it up for twu wuv with Linnia? Frankly, I didn't care and am heartily glad this is over. This is a light, fluffy romance with more plot holes than swiss cheese. Those interested in the Norse Gods jumping in and out of mortal lives might find this entertaining. Anyone else give it a pass - even if free. I'm awarding an extra star for I assume are unintended jokes. Thanks for the laughs.

MY LORD VIKING by Joann Ferguson is an exciting Regency Historical Romance/ Time Travel. A Viking warrior, Nils Bjornsson, travels to the future and ends up in England and ends up on a beach where, Lady Linnea Sutherland, finds him. Linnea helps him to become English gentleman. Nils, is looking for a knife stolen from his Chieftain by his brother. He has vowed to find and return this knife in order to return honor to his family and gain the favor of the Vahalla. But, Nils, never expected to find the love of his love along the way. He forgot that the gods love of love with humans and their lives. A cute tale of ancient ways, A Viking learning to become a Regency gentleman. Fast paced. The characters are enduring as well as entertaining. The storyline was interesting. A wonderful addition to your library. Received for an honest review from the publisher and Net Galley.

Sad to say this was a DNF for me. I was so excited to crack this open after reading the blurb that I tried really hard to get into it but just couldn't. Neither Nils nor Linny developed (I read about half-way through) to an interesting character and stayed very blah one-dimensional characters for me. Other supporting characters came in and out to prop a scene or situation with no development either. Once I found myself skimming large chunks, I just decided to put it down as I knew I wasn't going to do it justice. Sorry.

OK, Time Travel regency romance with transplanted Viking and Norse gods popping in and out. The female lead annoyed me by not telling her almost fiancé that she wasn't going to marry him ,instead stringing him along interminably for no apparent reason.

It just didn't hold my attention. Nils and Linnea didn't have enough substance for me and the premise was too predictable. At times, it just wasn't believable.

This was very disappointing to me. The storyline was all over the map for my taste. Unfortunately, I disliked it.
