Dead Dads Club is a moving collection of stories from women who have lost their fathers. A bittersweet journey through the experience of parental loss, from the 4:00am phone call we all dread receiving, to the agony of watching our loved one wither from disease, these raw stories capture the essence of grief, and reflect on the precious moments shared between daughters and their dads. With a deft balance of sensitivity and humor, Dead Dads Club gets to the heart of bereavement and offers hope for any daughter mourning the loss of her father.
Everyone's experiences are different, that is something I fully comprehend but still, I didn't find this book particularly helpful or engaging. I mean read if it feels right but I didn't feel like any of the essays were resonated enough for me to recommend to others in similar situations but like in the publisher's defense I also read it during my anger stage of grief so maybe I'll revisit it another time and not throw it at a wall.
I like the concept. I had to take a break from this for quite a few years and come back to this when I wasn't so angry and raw. I think for me, I was hoping to find some stories that resonated with me a little more. There was a bit of religion, and "he's in a better place now" and that gives me the ick. But some of the stories were really nice to hear. I think i would love something a little more rough around the edges.
This is a good book for whoever lost their dads. My suggestion to you is when you are finished, give the book to someone else who is hurting and needs some condoling.
